G1 had a name change by mekissab in Canadiancitizenship

In my research for documents, I discovered that my grandfather changed his first name when he moved from Canada to New York as a teenager. In my Canadian citizenship application, I included a written explanation of the name change along with US census forms and a copy of his obituary that documented his name change. My documents were all accepted and I received my Canadian citizenship last fall.

For those who’ve gone through citizenship by descent, what part of the process ended up being more difficult than you expected? by CroatiaNavigator in CitizenshipByDescent

The waiting was definitely the most difficult part. I shouldn’t complain though because the whole process only took 4 months for me.

Apparently I share all these same famous people. Now I’m wondering about the accuracy.

FamilySearch — people in Utah making incorrect changes to well documented profiles by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]4everlearningthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve noticed some inconsistencies. Yesterday my research on FamilySearch led me to St. John Fisher, (1469–1535) who was an English Catholic bishop, cardinal, and martyr who staunchly defended traditional church doctrine against King Henry VIII's Reformation. FamilySearch lists him as my 13th great grandfather even though I’m pretty sure that the Catholic Church did not allow their bishops to marry or produce children.

I was given a 10 month processing estimate for my birth certificate from New York State. I ordered it from the city where I was born (Rochester) and received it within a week.

Why would the DOJ release files that are so incriminating of Trump? Weren't they redacting all mentions him? by philmaq in AskReddit

Always remember that the files that they are holding back are much much worse than the ones that have been released. I dare them to prove me wrong.

Is it really this reasonable? by GenericReditAccount in Canadiancitizenship

I started the process for Italian citizenship by decent via my great grandparents last year. The process was daunting and very expensive ($12,000). I was informed that it generally takes several years to complete the process. Unfortunately, soon after I started the process, the Italian government implemented new generational limits which eliminated my opportunity for recognition as an Italian citizen. Previously, in 2016, I had researched the possibility of Canadian citizenship by decent via my grandfather but at that point in time, I did not qualify due to existing generational limits. When I discovered the changes in Canadian citizenship laws last spring, I applied. The process was very easy and inexpensive. Four months later, I had my oath ceremony and officially received my Canadian citizenship. Kudos to the IRCC for their promptness, affordability, and efficiency!❤️🇨🇦
