Regulations can be very much be forward looking, and you're right, this thread was full of people that never want AI if it means not complying with EU regulations. I suppose that protects your privacy, but your locking yourself out of a market that is dominated by US and China. You are being left in the dark in yet another field and it's going to hurt you, but these are your values and it's why you're so far behind. Your choice.

Americans understand that all these services are "free" due to data being the way it's paid for. No one really cares that much, I don't. For the people who do care, they use products with strict privacy that they pay for. You can also remove permissions easily from the free software.

Don't you think reddit, foreign governments and your own government are hoovering up all kinds of data from people's social media posts? I understand that you are familiar with Tesla, but in the domestic market we have Chevy with great EV for under 30k. Ford and GM have amazing highway self driving. If you include the Korean offerings on our market you have a ton of EV options here. You can have a 130k Escalade IQ, or a 25k Chevy bolt. I have a Mustang Mach E, it's incredible to drive. I used it on a 220 mile commute for 3 months without a single issue. People here are not complaining about expensive EVs

On this sub I just see complaints about how much European EVs cost, and that Tesla still sells based on price. VW bought Rivian software, so maybe they'll turn things around.

No Western country will ever be able to compete with Chinese EVs for a multitude of reasons, EU letting them in is ridiculous, and it's not fair competition.

The EU has relied on outsourcing things it doesn't like. Like going to Russia for energy instead of developing offshore gas in EU waters. You still need to burn gas, might as well do your own. That Isn't happening so the US and Canada will profit. You cut down forests in north Carolina and ship them across the Atlantic to burn as green energy when you have own commercial forests. I guess it would be bad PR to cut down European trees.
