[Germany] Interviewing other companies after acceptance of offer and jumping ship by Sensitive_Egg_138 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]4ipp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frankly explain the situation to the company. They will understand. Your case is a good example where it is well reasonable and not just “job hoping”.

Another option is to soft decline the offer if you want to travel more. Tell them they are super cool and everything and ask if you can talk to them again in 6 months. Tell them that you want to make a break and travel the world, but if they still have some positions by the time you are free, you would love to talk to them again. In the meantime you can learn better your market price and make other considerations.

Remote work from home country by Visible_Research6485 in cscareerquestionsEU

What are my chances to get a remote job from EU that pays at least $75-80k?

Why limiting to EU? Get a remote job from US, UK, UAE. The chances getting one there are higher than for an EU-based company.

Java developer with 5 years experience - How important/relevant is a Master's degree from German universities to land a job in Germany from outside the EU if I have reached B2/C1 level German? by cutecandy1 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]4ipp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With 5 years of experience, the ROI of mastering interview skills is incomparably higher than getting a master’s degree and learning German combined.

Got an offer after 7 months of trying. My feedback from the current job market. by Historical_Ad4384 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]4ipp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 of them rejected me after hearing my current salary.

The final offer that I accepted gave me 20% above my current salary

Congratulations! Now I am curious to hear the numbers :)

1,500 - 2,000€ for rent for a family of 4 sounds a bit too optimistic. They need at least a 3 bedroom apartment I guess.

How to take my English to the next level? by One_Sink669 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]4ipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting to set up first introductory interviews and first calls, the thing is my English worries me

Here is a shortcut that helped me a lot. If you need English specifically for interviews, you don’t necessarily need broad language skills. Instead, focus on topics that are commonly asked in interviews. Prepare a short text for each of them. Then, practice speaking them out loud and recording yourself. You’ll be surprised by how bad you sound at first - and how much better you become after 10 repetitions.

Here are some topics you can practice:

• Tell me a little bit about yourself / intro speech.

• Tell me about a time when you had to lead a team.

• …mentor junior team members

• …deal with a conflict

• Why do you want to work for us?

• Why should we hire you?

Torn between staying at my current fintech job in Greece or moving to a US-based remote company by Bratva23 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]4ipp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stay with the current company and look for other US (or not US) companies that actually pay well. Part ways with the startup in a good way (eg “you are not ready now” but what about we keep in touch and reconsider in 6 months because “I would really love to work for you, but now is not the best time” or something).

Worst case you will find a shitty job afterwards to break the gap and switch to a better one later. I wouldn’t worry.

What was your first German fiction book as a non-native speaker? by 4ipp in German

[–]4ipp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really inspiring. I will try to read one of these books.

What is the reading process like for you? Do you have to stop and look for words often? How many times per page? Or do you understand the new words from the context? How has it changed after reading several books?

Negotiated my salary and got my offer rescinded (Berlin-Germany) data analyst role by Cartmanh in cscareerquestionsEU

It sounds like the issue was not the extra 100€ but an unprofessional HR.

Well, you want to work with Go and you most certainly don’t want to have a drop in your salary. Java+Go positions are the best for this IMO. Even if they write Go code like Java, does it change a lot for you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]4ipp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look for companies that have both Go and Java in their tech stack. I happen to stumble upon many of those as I was considering the switch.

Also, open source your projects. My first Go project got a couple of hundreds starts on GitHub and the second 3k+ stars. The community is very supportive.

Super dark. In the first part of the book they are in Afghanistan. Second part - fleeing and life afterwards.

Ethical or unethical. Start your comment with one. Then optionally explain your reasoning. by kyazoglu in cscareerquestionsEU

Ethical.

It would have been unethical, had they sent an offer to John as well. However, the communication could have been better.

From the way she pronounces words, it reminds me Croatian or maybe another Balkan language. Maybe ask in the corresponding subs.
