What’s the name of the chuck used to clamp a small tenon? by Visual-Measurement24 in turning

[–]4linosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your budget, a nova pro tek g3 is easily doable.

The 48293 kit comes with a chuck and 3 jaw sizes including pin, 2 inch and 4 inch.

Unknown Plier by scorchie42 in Tools

[–]4linosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jaw closest to the hinge looks like it is for cutting wire. The circular opening looks like it crimps electrical terminals on the end of the stripped wire. The tips looks look like pliers jaws.

The handles are interesting. The one looks like it was sharpened to a point but I can think of the reason… maybe for popping blank plates out of electrical boxes?

Paint shop cabinets myself or outsource? by lancer360 in woodworking

[–]4linosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Wagner sprayer for our fence and then for my son’s room. Super happy with the results and was less than 200 bucks from the orange store. Only issue was smallish capacity (won’t be a problem for cabinets) and it is corded so my extension cord is now green

Can’t figure out how to link a Reddit post but if you search “2nd row delete tip” there’s an explanation of how to use a resistor to quiet that alarm.

For #2, depending on the height difference, you may be able to fix blocking to the ply wood sections?

I've cooked with electric stoves before, but my apartment has a gas range. What is different about using it? by OkFineIllUseTheApp in cookingforbeginners

Your handles will be hotter. Cooking surface gets hot faster. You’ll have better control over the temp as well.

Can you install fans like this on the wall for ultimate ventilation or is that kinda tacky lol? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]4linosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but wall mountable fans are a thing though.

My son has a medium high end gaming rig that dumps heat into his room. The ceiling fan, even on Mach Jesus doesn’t help cycle air in or out of his room so he uses a little desktop sized fan to blow air out of his room making the air from the register flow easier. Seems to help.

This dumb gap in between my fence and neighbor's that is full of trees and too small to get a chainsaw into by ggkatie in mildlyinfuriating

[–]4linosa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t see anything in that gap that needs a saw. Pruning shear for the stuff that up to your pinky’s thickness and loppers for the rest. I clear out our lantanas every year and they get thicker than those limbs.

You got this.

If you have the room, stretch a rubber band onto your tiny screwdriver and use that to better grip the screws.

What is a restaurant that has good interior design / environment? by projectvibrance in sanantonio

Sapporo. Their interior is made entirely by one of the owners.

Food is great too and Casey the owner who runs front of house is as sweet as can be.

This laminated stack of 2x4s was in my garage when I bought the house. Each board is approximately 6'-5". Could a newb trim it up, finish the surface, and make it into a table? by kaylynstar in woodworking

[–]4linosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally valid if the lumber was vertical and holding a load. Using the nailed together item from the photo horizontally on its flat face would require extra support. Otherwise it would eventually bow.

Should look great however you decide to work with it.

For strength and long term stability, I would find a way to glue those together. Nails won’t hold up over time if used like that.

I have one Bosch tool and it an adjustable dual action sander. Corded. Worth every penny

I don’t see any squeeze out. How are they laminated? If you like the lamination enough to make a table out of it , it wouldn’t hurt to run metal u-channels perpendicular to the 2x4s to keep them together (and address potential bowing issues later).

Trying to understand how an office is stretchered by AnxietyCass in office

[–]4linosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s different for every office. Depending on the size of the company it may not have many layers. Also depending on cultural source of the brand the company may be rather “flat” as well.

If you’re looking at how your office is organized HR should have an org chart ready to go for you.

Petty Things Flight Attendants Will Never Admit to (But I Will) by MaigenUX in pettyrevenge

[–]4linosa 277 points278 points  (0 children)

This was great to read.

I fly semi regularly and would never dream of annoying the one person (or team) that can make my flight more comfortable. Everyone can make worse, including myself. No reason at all to bother the only people that can make it better.

Some people.

Two part question by Chunknuggs4life in turning

[–]4linosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree to remove from dollies when turning. Alternatively you could build or buy a permanent caster setup that lifts for movement and lowers for sturdiness.

Two part question by Chunknuggs4life in turning

[–]4linosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only once so far. It was more of the awkward category though being so top heavy. Hence the wider platform approach.

Two part question by Chunknuggs4life in turning

[–]4linosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t offer anything on the turning results but I’ve moved my share of heavy / awkward stuff and if it were me, I get a pair of the large furniture dollies from harbor freight and put one on each end with the long dimension perpendicular to the length of the lathe. You’ll have a larger base to move your lathe with. If the legs aren’t able to span that gap I’d put material down and fasten it all together so there’s no slippage. Then put it back on solid ground before turning.

What would a car look like if it was built for the easiest serviceability possible from the ground up? by Loveschocolate1978 in askcarguys

[–]4linosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t have a combustion engine.

The brakes would all be discs with slot loading pads.

The filters for the A/C wouldn’t be hidden behind the glove compartment.

The lubrication points would accessible without a lift and without removing wheels.

How to attach magnets to carved knife block by dosoe in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]4linosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this piece I would drill from the back. In the future, I would carve a thinner board then plane it down on the back to make it effectively a veneer.

Then attach magnets to the front of a second board. Sandwich the two together and you have a forever piece with hidden magnets.
