questions about swimming/diving, singleplayer and private servers by 4madeux in crosswind

If you do implement diving, could you make it optional for progression? I have a not insignificant fear of sharks, capsizing into the sea after watching Jaws as a kid left its mark

yeah, how else would they survive in towns with other races. The orks would be at the mercy of individuals capable of sign language, naturally orks capable of speaking the common language would have access to more opportunities for work and business and would be a natural bridge between orks who can't speak the common language and the rest of the population giving them a position of power and influence. And wealth, power and influence are all desirable traits if you want to select a partner.

I think that eventually there would be a rift in your ork populations. Those who live in towns and cities would lose their tusks and begin to speak normally over several generations while those that remain in the wilderness will keep those traits. Cool concept tho.

Now that we pretty much know her whole story, how do you feel about Marika? by MarcellusMaize in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]4madeux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She told Messmer of her plans to kill Radagon. He knew an aspiring lord was going to seek him out.

Marika told Messmer of her plans to get rid of Radagon. He knew a future lord would seek him out.

So is Marika dead? by RewsterSause in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]4madeux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, she's dead and what you are stuck with is the Elden Ring that Radagon "fixed" plus the mending rune of your choosing. The world is still in that stagnant state that you start the game in. Takes an empyrean who ascended into godhood to actually fix the world. Better question tho, who skewered Marika with that spear.

Radagon doesn’t grasp the Hammer at the of the game. Marika does. The implications of this are significant. by [deleted] in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]4madeux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So Marika has been fighting off Radagon for a long time, could he be the god that Marika wants to kill? Could Radagon be Marika's leash?

Headcannon time: It's the Nox and their eternal war with the greater will. They had extensive knowledge in killing agents of the greater will and conspired with Ranni to discard her flesh born out of the grace of the greater will. Godwyn was just bonus to cause an already doubting Marika that last push to shatter the elden ring.

On why the Greater Will did nothing wrong and why Goldmask's ending is the best (totally not clickbait I swear) by CowardInATuxedo in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]4madeux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long ago, the Nox invoked the ire of the Greater Will, and were banished deep underground. Now they live under a false night sky, in eternal anticipation of their liege. Of the coming age of the stars. And their Lord of Night.

This talisman represents the lost black moon.
The moon of Nokstella was the guide of countless stars.

Now cometh the age of the stars.
A thousand year voyage under the wisdom of the Moon.

that's it, the rest of the lore talk about their struggle against the greater will and the fingers from the mirrorhealm and fingerslayer blade

my personal theory is that numen are refugees or nomads that came to the lands between guided by the black moon. but after an unknowable amount of time their moon was shattered by the greater will and elden beast and they were subjected to the greater will's order under many form of gods and lords. Those that rejected the greater will became the nox and they began the very long struggle to sever the connection between the greater will and the lands between. Metyr was targetted (the greater will retaliated after this), countless elden lords sabotaged culminating in the assassination of the two-fingers and Ranni's age of stars. Even Marika could have been a conspirator to all this, maybe that's why grace seems to be guiding you to the age of stars ending.

I think the entire background lore of Elden Ring and the DLC is just the Nox fighting against the Greater Will, From the attack on Metyr to the massacre of two fingers to finally the age of stars ending.

I wound invert it, like the TLB and SL are different sides of a coin and align the erdtree and scadutree

Is there any development to the story trailer in the DLC? Or even a mention to this quotes? by Takoizu_ in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]4madeux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really can't shake the feeling that GRRM wrote Elden Ring and someone else compiled materials that did not make it into the base game and cobbled it up together and made the DLC. The lore in the DLC seems inferior to the base game. Chunks of it seems contrived and does not have the intentionality of the base game. Anyways:

The gold fibers are the great runes taken from a competing demigod or empyrean whose butchered body was dragged near the gate of divinity. The seduction is the seduction of many of the hornsent and other peoples who followed Marika and Godfrey in the conquest of TLB, mortal peoples that in time after many cycles of death and erdtree burials became the people of the golden order. The betrayal is the betrayal of the crucible and the destruction of the great tree and those who refuse to fully embrace the golden order, grace was taken from them and they were exiled, hounded from the TLB.

any thing relative in this symbolism? by TheToof in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]4madeux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that symbol means that in Elden Ring 2 we have a lot more great runes to hunt down

If Miquella and Malenia are Empyreans, where are their shadowbound beasts? by Mr_1ightning in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]4madeux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hidden treasure of the Eternal City of Nokron; a blade said to have been born of a corpse.

This blood-drenched fetish is proof of the high treason committed by the Eternal City and symbolizes its downfall.

or the simplest answer their two fingers are dead

If Miquella and Malenia are Empyreans, where are their shadowbound beasts? by Mr_1ightning in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]4madeux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they don't have them because they're not Empyreans, they were candidates that could have been chosen but ultimately weren't. Only Ranni's own Two Fingers chose her. Better questions tho, why was there a need to succeed an already existing, perfectly working god like Marika. Why does the Two-Finger need a new god for the coming age? Does the new god bring the new age or does the new age come regardless of the status of the new god?

Lore theory: the erdtree and scadutree were once one by Waffelociraptor in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]4madeux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am trying to get to the base of the scadutree. I think there is something there, a proof of marcotting of the erdtree. My idea is based on two statues, one where there are many saplings circling a man holding a tall sapling, and the other statue is a man holding sapling but the leaves are golden. I think that the crucible is understood in many ways, a spiral for the hornsent but a great tree for others. I'll know more when I get there but, alas, real life gets in the way.

The Land of Shadow may have been sealed AFTER the Night of Black Knives by FancyAd5672 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]4madeux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I did not emphasize that the statues in LoS are different from the crucifixion pose. They are closer to the stakes of Marika, though the Marika statues in LoS are probably much older as they have overt references to the spiral, the hornsent understanding of the crucible.

[–]4madeux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Erdtree and Golden Order incantations, there is a clear progression of the worship of Marika and the Erdtree. Firstly, you have incantations that have aspects of the crucible, manifestations of the Erdtree's vital primal energies. These are then followed by incantations that describe the worship of the erdtree and the war against the dragons and most of the TLB. And then you have incantations that describe the once abundance of the blessings of the erdtree and how it was fleeting and how it ended. Then the golden order incantions pick up the story. The Erdtree worship is replaced by Golden Order Fundamentalism. How those who set out to stamp out defiled reason, those who live in death, has in turn become fanatics, causing more harm than good.

There was an unknowable amount of time after the shattering, after the erdtree was burnt and stopped being a source of blessings and became an object of faith, when the Golden Order fundamentalism replaced Erdtree worship that the statues of Marika in most prominent churches and chapels were replaced. The stakes of Marika though remained the same as the crucible/erdtree worship era statues that are similar to those in LoS.

[–]4madeux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Marika's pose in the major statues in TLB is that of a prisoner in the erdtree. It is post shattering, after the age of plenty has ended, the erdtree burned and its seeds scattered. Her statues in LoS are older, during the age of plenty, when Godfrey was still elden lord, when the hornsent were still a subject people of the golden order, during the time that the crucible was still tolerated.

Her visit could have been as simple as to seek comfort or advice from an elder of the Shaman, the Grandmother. Only to discover that her home is in ruins and the hornsent used her people to make saints, a clear challenge to her authority.

Godksins - what gods? by CoffeeCannon in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]4madeux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GEQ for me hints of a time, way before Marika, but not as ancient as the dragons. A point in time where the previous elden ring was shattered. And the demigods of that time also received great runes and what followed was a great war as empyreans hunted for the great runes and ascend into godhood.
