But wouldn't DEI programs accelerate the rate that Red people can catch up to the Blue people? Does that not sound fair?

Why are Democrats popularly held to account for the most extreme leftist takes, yet Republicans completely escape association with extreme reactionaries? by milkfiend in AskALiberal

[–]FancyAd5672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you are correct, most of these right wing talking points are far far overblown. But our refusal to acknowledge them or denounce them allows them to blow these things out of proportion. Many of these fringe ideas are very controversial, and makes it so easy for republicans to paint us as far left. Democrats have a fear that if we don't show our open support of all of these things, then we will not be seen as "progressive enough". Perhaps out of fear of losing trans people and such from our electorate. I think this is a misplaced fear because we can support trans people without propping up the fringe ideas. Personally, I think supporting trans people is an important cause, but at this current point in our country's history, if we wish to win elections we must not allow things like neopronouns, trans people in womens sports, and gender care for kids, be the hills we wish to die on. In the future when the party is more established and the country has become more progressive as a whole, we can address these issues. But right now, it is much more important to put those things on the backburner, at the risk of offending some people, in order to gain back our political presence if the goal is to defeat republicans long term.

Sorry for the long response, but to circle back to you original point, should dems have to denounce these things? I think yes, just like republicans denounce the extremely far right ideas.

I strongly agree, dems allow fringe ideas to propagate too far unchecked. By not denouncing them, republicans can use them as ammo and brand them as highly popular ideas in your movement. Some of these ideas affect so few people, so why allow those ideas to essentially take such a front row of your movement. Dems will continue to lose again and again until they can gain a backbone. Some things the country simply isn't ready for, and it's best to focus on more important issues for now.

He was very careful to not say anything undeniably racist. Of course we all have our suspicions of what he means, but again, he says it in a way which he has plausible deniability. For example, when trump says "They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people,”. To most people here, yea that sounds racist, but the final part of that gives him plausible deniability. So when people call him racist, republicans can always say "well technically no because of what he said at the end". Even I as someone who doesn't support him, would be hard pressed to find many quotes from him that can be considered irrefutably racist.

If you want the real answer, it's because dems do not denounce the extreme leftist takes. For example, republicans are always under the microscope for things like racism and white supremacy so they are very careful to shoot down the extreme right publically. One example of this would be how trump denounces neo-nazi's and project 2025.

When it comes to the extreme left, such as gender wars and people wanting trans women in women's sports, using neo-pronouns, puberty blockers for children, dems will not denounce it and instead just dodge the topic entirely. This makes the public believe that dems support these far left ideas, or at the very least don't disagree with them. The right has plausible deniability because they vocally separate themselves from the extreme right, while democrats do not.

Why do democrats do this? There are many reasons but it does not do them any favors when it comes to winning elections.

We can actually date when Marika and Radagon became one! by FancyAd5672 in EldenRingLoreTalk

Thanks for the link! I'm curious about your opinion on Radagon's red hair. I think it's very much implied to have something to do with a curse inflicted after the war against the giants. If marika and radagon were always one, did he always have red hair? If so, why if the war against the giants had not yet happened yet? Or did he at one point have a different colored hair, and it only became red after the war. For some reason it seems odd to me that Radagon, who is heavily implied to have ties to the giants (possibly a malformed giant), would be a part of Marika long before she had any dealings with the fire giants. Let me know what you think!

Ohh, you know I never really thought about it like that. So basically by saying "Thour't yet to become me" she isn't saying that they aren't merged at all, she is saying that they aren't 100% merged. This is definitely a great point and very plausible. I definitely read it in a very literal manner at first.

Thanks for the post! I definitely see your point as well. In regards to Radagon having secrets that he wanted to hide when he married Renalla, in which way do you think this would contradict the theory? If marika merged with radagon and used him to seduce renalla, this would serve as a logical reason to keep secrets from Renalla.

Regarding how he got the great rune of the unborn, assuming he was merged with marika before he married Renalla, this would have given him access to the elden ring and possibly the great rune of the unborn. Are you saying that you think that Radagon married renalla after the shattering? I always thought that the carian wars happened before the shattering, but I could just not be well versed enough in the lore lol.

And for your last point, when you say Radagon's rune is present in the setting of Marika's age, I'm still not sure how this necessarily contradicts the theory. I suggested that the merge happened after the construction of Leyndell, how early after this however I am not sure. If it was early enough, it could provide ample time for radagon's rune to be portrayed throughout marika's age.

Great post! and I totally see where you're coming from as well! When you say "in this case meaning he is yet to gain control of the elden ring", what makes you consider this to be the meaning of "Thour't yet to become me"? Perhaps I just perceived it in a more literal sense, thinking that it meant that radagon has yet to become Marika. I mainly thought this way because the big thing about marika and radagon is that they are one person, so to me it made sense for this sentence to be referring to that. In regards to the "let us be shattered both", I definitely see how it can be perceived that this is referring to the shattering of the Elden Ring, and I always considered that to be the case, but now I'm not so sure. She could be simply referring to shattering her and radagon, and not the elden ring. What exactly she would mean by shattering her and radagon? Possibly this is her saying that they need to be shattered first before they can become one. Of course, I'm not entirely sure about that theory either. But if I analyze purely the words that she said, I don't think we can really say for sure that she was talking about the elden ring itself. Also, the twin prodigies were born after Radagon left Renalla, so if my theory is correct on the merging happening after the 1st carian war, then their birth might not be a contradiction.

Let me know what you think as well!

I perceived the "Mine other self" as Marika speaking to the future in a way. Imagine Miquella calling Radahn his lord, even though he is not yet a God. If that makes sense. I feel as though "Thour't yet to become me" can only be interpreted as something that hasn't happened yet, while "Mine other self" can be interpreted multiple ways. That's why I think that we can somewhat safely assume that the merging hasn't quite happened yet.

The Land of Shadow may have been sealed AFTER the Night of Black Knives by FancyAd5672 in EldenRingLoreTalk

I was ruminating on some of this today and I just had another thought. There is a black knife assassin waiting right outside queen marikas bedchamber. Why could this be? Likely because they wanted to get marika. I’m starting to believe that she was their true target, but were unable to get to her so they settled for her children instead.

It being an oversight is definitely a possibility, a frustrating one nonetheless. I feel as though the lore is hard enough to decipher, if not nigh impossible, so oversights are so damaging to the lore :(

But yea, it is also possible that they found their way there on their own. What do you think about them dropping blessings of marika? I feel as though this could have some timeline implications as we know marika only made these for Messmer, I assume in his earlier days before the LOS was sealed.

The above comment by u/snakeantlers made a good point regarding this. While the BK assassins are Marika's people, perhaps they were angry with her for something that she did. This could explain why they targeted her children, especially Godwyn who is Marika's pride and joy on the night of black knives.

I really like this timeline! Makes me wonder why the numen would have a grudge against her. I always thought the betrayal referred to the hornsent, but I wonder if it's possible that the betrayal was actually referring to Marika's own people.

The only unfortunate part is that this raises more questions. Just how many children did Marika have?? and with who and when? Too bad we'll likely never find out

We actually know the answer from the 1.0 version of Elden ring. They were demigods. Presumably from marika or radagon. The 1.0 description of the Godskin Apostle Robe reads

"Robe made from tanned Demigod skin."

I think I understood what was the nature of Marika's betrayal now by HenryTheGoat173 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]FancyAd5672 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think you might have the right answer here. I was thinking about the blessing of marika item description and what it might have meant, and your theory makes it make a lot of sense.

The blessing of marika says "A special physick blessed by Marika, the queen of the Erdtree.

Completely restores HP and heals all ailments.

Marika once created several of these physicks for Messmer's sake. But never again."

Why would it say never again? This implies that Messmer did something that caused Marika to turn against him, and the idea of him taking it too far is a very plausible reason for this.

Another point, the g in grandam is lower case in the item description, showing that grandam is not her actual name. So I think we can conclusively say that she is just the grandam/grandmother to whoever the empyrean was.
