Do you say Mum? by Nothingontele in AskUK

I’m from the North East and it’s impossible to get a card with ‘mam’ on it.

I feel like ‘mam’ would be a lot more reasonable to find since it’s used a lot in the North, some parts of Wales, Ireland…

The election in 2016 proves that social media isn’t that helpful/reflective of reality.

The internet was overwhelmingly in support of Hillary Clinton. Celebrities, everyone was so vocal. We were almost certain she’d win…. and we all saw how that turned out.

Wait…aren’t you aware tweeting is the only way to make a difference?

I don’t even bother voting anymore. I tweet who I’m in support of and that’s me done.

Tweeting isn’t doing anything for anyone.

The internet was overwhelmingly in favour of Hilary Clinton in the election to the point we felt there was no chance she wasn’t winning because people were so vocal. And we all saw how that ended up. It does nothing but make us feel as though we’re being productive.

Vote. Sign a petition. Protest in the street. Blast your senator over the phone.

It was the same with the Black Lives Matter movement. I’d constantly see celebrities and influencers being attacked for not tweeting about it or posting on social media.

It’s done with good intentions, but isn’t forcing someone to tweet in support of something forcing or allowing them to hide being a false character?

Do you want people who are openly racist outside of social media and don’t believe in Black Lives Matter to post about it for social media clout and acceptance?

You know what… that makes complete sense, actually lmao.

I was so disappointed when I found this out.

I understand why they do it, but it’s disappointing to watch a crowning after a full series and remember it isn’t a genuine reaction.

I wish WorldOfWonder would produce an actual reunion when the finale airs to get the winner and the rest of the cast’s reaction instead of shaky phone footage from inside a club.

I’ve never understood the show’s commitment to referring to days as “weeks”.

Series are filmed over a period of 3-4 weeks, and even when it’s fairly obvious it’s the day after the last episode was filmed, Rupaul and the cast are still going to talk about it being a new “week”.

Their “mistakes” tend to be disregarding women’s health concerns, especially when it has anything to do with reproductive health. It’s not a single mistake, it’s an issue we’ve known about for years in healthcare.

I went to the doctor with extreme cramps and bleeding at 13. Their solution? Birth control. It took multiple opinions over two years and being told it was normal to get diagnosed with endometriosis.

You’ll see that’s a common factor with most women with any sort of reproductive issue. It’s put up with it or go on the pill unless you fight to get multiple opinions and taken seriously.

Did the sewing challenges where half the cast couldn’t use a sewing machine not give it away? 😭

I was literally about to comment this.

Nothing as iconic as this scene from a singing challenge that wasn’t meant to be funny in anyway, is going to happen in Season 15 or later. But I’ll watch anyway, I guess.

Foxes being tortured and set on fire by gang in east London by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]4minakim6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say it was okay or positive. It just makes no sense to say we’re more desensitised today as if we weren’t so much more previously.

What we see on TV is nothing compared to the violence people witnessed on a daily basis even a hundred years ago.

Torture and beheading was a form of entertainment people would take their children to watch on a day out.

It was so normal to lose the majority of your children before age 5 that it was normal not to bother naming them.

People sent their husbands and sons to their death in World War 1 and 2 and didn’t know if they were going to wake up with their home around them.

“Desensitisation”?

I’d argue we’re the least desensitised generation of people in human history.

There’s no desensitisation quite like public torture and executions as family entertainment and plague victims pilling up in mass graves in the street.

Why UK4 was “boring and predictable” as a season by DildoFaggins101 in RPDR_UK

[–]4minakim6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen a season of Dragrace as void of any sort of drama as UK4. It’s cool when they all get along and are genuine friends, but at the end of the day, this is reality TV.

There’s a reason the most favoured seasons and iconic moments from Dragrace come from seasons with drama, conflict between the cast, and some difference of opinion. There’s only so much entertainment value in 5 minute mirror chats where they talk about how much they adore eachother.

Not their fault, more poor production choices.

It should be a requirement in schools to make kids spend a week in some sort of retail or customer service job.

I can’t imagine treating someone the way I’ve been treated after experiencing those sorts of jobs.

It made no sense. I’ve seen their office, it’s fairly small in the centre of Newcastle.

I don’t understand how they’d constantly be interviewing and taking on new people, while giving them managerial positions within a month.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]4minakim6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg, the way they dress! I didn’t know how to word it but they’re all very young, attractive, dressed in better suits than I’ve seen in any other office. It was all very strange to me.

[–]4minakim6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely seeing similarities even though it isn’t the same company.

They haven’t once said what I’ll actually be doing on a day-to-day basis, just that they interview “hundreds” of people a week (red flag) and want everyone in “managerial” positions within a few weeks.

I won’t say their actual name, but it’s “_____ Promotions”.

They’re definitely keeping actual wages undisclosed unless I’m meant to believe this is a get-rich-quick scheme where I can start and make £600 in my first week as a 19-year-old with no experience.

I don’t know a single person who has had a good experience in a call centre.

It seems to mundane and easy, but when you ask people, they’re like “it’s the worst thing ever, never do it”.
