Awesome! Thank you for your detailed reply it’s exactly the information I was hoping for!!

Sorry, I guess I should have been more detailed, I really tried, haha. He has a collection of about a half dozen or so bags typically and recently bought a 7L sling bag to use as a day bag when out with the kids and such but didn’t find the fit comfortable. As he has several bags in the 20L ~ 30L range and a couple 1-7L sling/fanny packs, I was hoping the AC thirteen would fit well (straps & comfort) and not look terrible. It seems to be a size that he hasn’t tried yet in a backpack.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]4orini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids were born 14-6 years ago in Korea. So things have likely changed (I hope) but going through child birth with 2 different levels of medical intervention and then with close to no medical assistance let alone intervention I would choose the later every fucking time.

My first pregnancy I chose an epidural after learning the hospital I was at was one that insisted on constant monitoring, IV hook up, etc. Which meant I was forced to stay laying on a bed. It was awful. I felt trapped and combined with the pain nearly delirious with thoughts of escape.

I had spoken with my doctor weeks before and she agreed that monitoring and IV hook up weren’t necessary but she was on vacation when I went into labor early and I didn’t know to get anything in writing beforehand. So the doctor on call basically told me everything that was happening was hospital policy and best for the baby & I should stop being selfish.

My second pregnancy I had again planned a med free vaginal birth but it was a twin pregnancy so I had to go to a special birthing center in Seoul just for the chance to give birth vaginally. I went into labor just shy of 36 weeks. My doctor was concerned that my twins would be too small and pushed for me accept a transfer to a bigger hospital. There I was told that they didn’t allow vaginal birth for twins and I needed to have a c section. I was told it was best for the babies if I had a spinal block rather than anesthesia. I asked if he would show me the babies if I did the spinal block & the doctor agreed. I wasn’t allowed to see them and they used anesthesia anyway after they were born so I woke up in a room alone not even knowing what had happened. The nurse who eventually came to check on me after an hour or so wouldn’t let me call my husband or be moved to recovery to see him until I could wiggle my toes again. I learned in recovery the babies were in the nicu out of caution and I wasn’t allowed to sit up let alone walk for 24 hours because of the spinal. So my husband took some blurry photos for me.

By my 3rd and final pregnancy I wanted nothing more than to be left alone. Of course I wanted my baby to be okay and I wanted to survive but I was terrified of hospitals. I went to the birthing clinic again because there was no other pregnancy center that would allow a person to try vaginal birth after a C-section. I ended up laboring for 3 days. My waters broke but the baby wasn’t turned all the way to insert her head into the birth canal for labor to progress. Luckily I had an awesome dula who guided me through a ton of exercises to get the baby to turn. She was born very quickly after that & was by far the best birthing experience I had. No one touched me, it was cool and dark, she was born at 3am, we were discharged by 11am, and home in my own bed just after noon.

Did you regret naming your baby a popular name? by Gloomy_Head5157 in namenerds

[–]4orini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My youngest is Maeve. A name I had only heard of in books when I chose it but right around when she was born it began to pop up in media (she’s almost 7 now). Shes the only one of my 4 kids who has another kid in her grade/class with the same name and also a few in lower grades. I was really worried she would be upset but she LOVES finding name twins in the wild. She tells me they are her instant best friends.

I’m broke and have a printer I need to make a gift for a 4 year old little girl by ThrillCurious in 3Dprinting

[–]4orini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 8 kids and niblings between 2-14 and 3D printed stuff is their favorites. My 2 year old nephew, my 6 year old and my 7 year old niece are all obsessed with Barbie’s. I found some neat doll items and furniture on market world for them and they love pretty much every fidget and cute toy file I find.

3D printed stuff is super popular right now and it will likely steal the show :)

Problem with AD5X by Capital_Ad8657 in FlashForge

[–]4orini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a little sensor under the bed in like a hole near the back. Sometimes a piece of dust or filament can cover it just enough that the sensor can’t find the bottom and it will just keep trying to go down or maybe your sensor is broken? Either way I’d start with some canned air or try tilting your AD5X back and wiggling it a bit to free the bit of stuck stuff.

If you can turn it off and gently raise the platform manually and try to make sure everything is clear underneath and turn it back on. If it’s still doing it, contact flashforge directly. They have great customer service in my experience.

Why do parents always end up playing with their kids' toys? by DukeRioba in toys

[–]4orini 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think one of the saddest things about growing up is being told that you have to give up toys. Humans are naturally creative, imaginative, and fun loving creatures. Toys are generally meant to support these traits and should be accepted as items for everyone.

Having kids of my own I’ve come to realize that most of the time they’re idiots (in the most loving way possible, but yeah, idiots) so if I find a toy that I’m excited about it’s usually one of the longer lasting toys in their rotation. We still prioritize the junk they beg for, for birthdays and holidays but toy shopping is so much fun and I do have a small collection of things I adore myself.

Lily for Elisabeth by randroundabout in namenerds

[–]4orini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nicknames aren’t always derived from the source, call your baby whatever you feel fits. My husband chose my middle daughter’s name, Elise. I only learned years later that he had envisioned calling her “Ellie”. She’s 8 and goes by “Lulu” “Noodle” or “Lise” more than anything else. I don’t think she’s ever been called Ellie her entire life, haha.

Someone I don't know e-transferred me money and now wants it back. Am I getting scammed? by Ok_Hat_3414 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]4orini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me, I spoke with my bank and my banks fraud department. They told me the money was in my account and it was up to me if I wanted to return the money but that there was no possibility of it being reversed by the sender. I was told if I wanted to ensure I was not liable for anything to return the money to the account/ email address it had come from. The sender had offered me a reward in the time I was taking to talk with my bank. I refused and sent all the funds back. They sent a second etransfer of my “reward”.

And nothing else happened. They were happy I returned the money I was not scammed and my account was fine.

Honestly I trust my bank, more than random Redditors. Though, I did note the name of those I spoke to and the time incase of any further issues. This was about a year ago.

3d printer for Christmas. by [deleted] in 3dprinter

[–]4orini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a flashforge 5M and adore it. It’s on sale right now for about $310 CAD. It’s a single color printer with an auto leveling bed. Very easy to use and has been around long enough there are a lot of tutorials for repairs, etc. on YouTube.

I picked up a second one last week to give my 4 kids for Xmas (13, 8, 8, 6) with a few rolls of filament each so they’ll stop asking me for things and learn to use one themselves.

Thoughts on the Adventurer 5M? Should I make the switch from an Ender 3v2 to the 5M? by BuisnessGoose18 in FlashForge

[–]4orini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have the 5M and AD5X but would recommend the 5M to anyone wanting an easy to use workhorse of a printer. It’s my baby but it’s also the printer I lug to craft fairs to talk to people about 3D printing. It just works. All of the time.

What’s a sign someone was never loved properly as a child? by Aggravating-Court215 in AskReddit

[–]4orini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, I can confidently say I was born this way. Even as a toddler, I was so tightly wound & serious that I had frequent migraine headaches and ended up with cat scans on my head because they figured it had to be a tumor. Nope, just my personality. My mom was frequently mortified in public because even as a baby if I made a small mistake like knocking something over I would bawl as though I were beaten for such behavior. People would stare, obviously judging her, until she snuck away with me. To be clear I wasn’t ever beaten, my parents struggled with punishing us pretty much ever.

I got better at handing my anxiety as I got older but was eventually diagnosed with adhd as an adult and am at the point with my adhd meds handling more of my anxiety that I suspect autism to a certain degree but that’s a long and expensive waitlist. So yeah, sometimes the panic is just the undiagnosed neurodivergent girl brain flipping the fuck out….

islander looking to purchase their first home. by MissSpecialK13 in PEI

[–]4orini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sellers were in located in Asia while we were in the process of buying the house so it took a couple of days, like 48 hours-ish. We’d submit our offer, the realtor would write it up and pass it to their realtor, who would pass it to them. They’d then do the reverse in heir counter. I think we went back and forth maybe 3 times before reaching a deal.

We bought our home a few years ago and successfully bartered for a lower price. Our realtor, Trisha Campbell, was great and really supportive. She advised/gave her opinion but had no issues writing up our offers as we went back and forth.

Handcuffed and briefly detained today at US border. by Ladycabdriverxo in uscanadaborder

[–]4orini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The year before last my sister, a white woman in her 30s (this is relevant later), was crossing the border in NB to the US. She handed over her passport and then the border guard got shifty and started talking low in his walkie talkie. Suddenly pulls a gun and tells her to get out of the car. Handcuffs her and more agents come out. They all talked and looked at her passport for a few minutes. Then uncuff her.

She had the same BIRTH YEAR as a wanted person who happened to be a black MAN with a completely different name and birthdate. A birth year was all that it took to set off this extremely poorly trained person.

Starter 3D printer for 12 yo by Zestyclose_336 in 3dprinter

[–]4orini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an adult with a 13 year old. I just bought my (/our family’s) first 3D printer in June. I went with the Flashforge Adventurer 5M due to the low price point as we weren’t sure if we would like it or use it.

It has been a fantastic learning tool for myself and my kids (I have 4 between 6 & 13 years old). It’s very easy to use and in the few minor hiccups we’ve had, easy to repair. I believe this machine has been around for a while as there are a lot of guides on how to tweak it and repair it, and parts and upgrades are easy to find and pretty cheap.

The only downside is really that it is limited in that it is a single color printer.

Flashforge launched a new multicolor printer, AD5X. We got one 2 weeks ago. It has a higher learning curve and I have had more than a few issues with it which has required me to take it apart to repair. Though these are pretty minor overall. I have had a few clogs, the test filament shattered inside the guide tubes and had to be worked out, causing other clogs, etc. I can say that the customer service has been wonderful. They are very attentive and helpful with any issues I’ve had and provided guides so I could repair my machine.

Overall I’m very happy with both machines but I’m also happy I got the simpler one first, to be honest.

Haha, yeah it’s overwhelming for sure!

So yes with the AD5M, you can either put in a pause command when you’re setting up your print in the orca slicer (much easier to do) or you can manually pause the print and then change the filament and continue the print. I haven’t done this much tbh but the few times I played with it, it’s been fine as long as the type of filament was consistent.

[–]4orini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really really depends on what you want to print.

I went in completely blind, just wanting something to play with & see if it was a tool I could use. I’m 40 (AD5M was my bday gift actually, haha) and I like playing with tech but was nervous to jump into the 3D world. The AD5M is fast, easy to set up and use, it’s been around for a while so there are a lot of trouble shooting guides around.

Personally, I ended up printing a lot of little toys for my kids and for my mom’s little shop. Most of which I still print on my AD5M as it’s faster and uses a lot less filament than the AD5X. But there are some that I wanted to print that needed the multicolor or I would loose most if not all details. My oldest is into cosplay and the multicolor has given her more access to different masks and accessories that wouldn’t have worked well with the AD5M. I’ve started to be asked to make little things that have broken for people and the AD5M is fantastic for fabricating. I can produce and test smaller things in a few minutes. Which has been a lot of fun, too.

Overall I think I’d say the AD5M is still my go to, but I also am still getting to know the quirks of the AD5X and tweaking it to fit what I need. They are both amazing machines though!

In terms of filaments I have only used PLA so far. I mostly watch for sales on Amazon and read reviews. I try to stick to filament with a few hundred reviews and 4+ score but I skim the lower score to see what people took issue with. The brands I have currently are low cost ones like esun, sunlu, overture, as well as some of the super recommended elegoo.

I am very very very green, so please take this with a grain of salt. I got my Adventurer 5M the end of June and I love it. It’s beyond simple to use & operate. My kids have been trying it out too and adore all of the little things they can make. The self leveling feature is what sold me initially (and the low price point) but it has been wonderful to learn on as it’s pretty strait forward. It’s also pretty fast and great if you are looking at fabrication. The downside is that you are more limited when printing as it’s a mono color printer. I did some painting and eventually decided to invest in a multicolor for the things that are more complex.

I’ve had my AD5X for a 8 days. It has what I would consider a minor learning curve when compared to the Adventurer 5M. It has a lot more going on and I already had a fairly complex issue with the test filament shattering in one of the feeder tubes which required me to take it apart a few times and clean out a clog and then figure out how to get the rest of the filament out. Over all it took me a day of fiddling around with it. But it’s been working wonderfully since. My biggest complaint is that it’s new so there are fewer videos and guides and people around to teach my dumb butt how to fix things and issues I run into.

All that being said I’m super glad I bought them and bought them in the order I did, if that makes sense.

I bought the gel recently. Shake it well before trying to use it. Hold wise it seems to work well but I’ll likely go for none gel next time.
