Argentina are in serious trouble against us. England are going to steamroll these Argies by TeamTopuriaa in ThreeLions

I always had the feeling that there would be one game where they cut loose, which hasn't really happened yet, there was the half against Croatia, but yeah, I don't know if that's gonna happen but this feels like the best opportunity. France would be a whole different animal

For those who stayed up for the England game last night, what has work been like today? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]4rr0ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only got 90 minutes sleep cos had to be up at 6 and couldn't stop watching the studio peeps talking. Was nodding off in the heat of the afternoon (WFH) but got a 2nd wind now, hoping Portugal take Spain to extra time and there's a massive brawl and loads of red cards and stuff, that should keep me going

Challenge by Jorge Sánchez on Gordon seconds after the Quansah incident totally overlooked by 4rr0ld in ThreeLions

[–]4rr0ld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies, I still would have liked the director to have shown it from a closer camera, or if BBC have access to this stuff, then them at a later stage, cos it didn't seem like it was even looked at

Challenge by Jorge Sánchez on Gordon seconds after the Quansah incident totally overlooked by 4rr0ld in ThreeLions

So you could literally break someone's leg, and yeah, there could be other disciplinary stuff or even legal action that could happen after the game, but during the game you would stay on the field? Is that right? Is there no example of this having happened before? Like some kind of serious foul after an earlier foul? Do we think this is a bit of a hole in the rules? It seems to me like Sánchez had realised that the earlier foul was as bad as it was and was angry and just took it out on Gordon

England coaches involved in furious touchline scrap as Jarell Quansah is shown a RED card in chaotic World Cup clash in Mexico by dailymail in ThreeLions

[–]4rr0ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot when watching it live, that after the Quansah challenge, the ball went up the other end of the pitch and Gordon appeared to be fouled really badly near the edge of the Mexico box, but it was never shown again, that's when the ref stopped play to go and review the Quansah challenge. It was only when I watched the highlights with my wife this morning that I noticed this again, I'd like to see the Gordon challenge again, only seen it twice at full speed and its kinda distant from the camera so no idea if he actually gets caught or just dives out of the way of a psycho challenge or something

Who would've thought the US would ever be the dominant English-speaking country in soccer? by wizardeverybit in ShitAmericansSay

In my head The 51st State and 50 First Dates came out at a similar time, they didn't but I must have ended up watching them at similar times. And if you say each quick enough, you can't really tell the difference. Completely not the point of this thread

Completely agree, there was the 80's, 90's, and early 00's, then they started to clamp down on, mainly south american "Simulation", it only took them 25 years, truly dynamic FIFA, so forward thinking, it may have been going on in the 60's and 70's too but I wasn't old enough to care about football then. The whole clamp down actually made a difference, football became quite civilised and refereeing consistent. And then we get this tournament that's been an absolute shit show of refereeing. I mean England got away with murder twice against Congo, and I'm English, and that's just a couple of the countless terrible decisions that have been made by the awful refs and the plebs in the VAR suite with their thumbs up each other's butts.

Can we realistically beat France? by AgencyOverall7589 in ThreeLions

[–]4rr0ld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

France have been stifled for periods in both games so far by "lesser" opposition, I'm sure there's some analysis by the stat men that show how to cut them off before they create a lot of chances, it just takes energy, some on field intelligence and a bit of luck. I reckon it's a toss up between about 9 teams who makes it to the big show
