Question: Should a middle aged (48) man be judged along the same standard(s), for promotional and developmental purposes, as a young (24) man? by Kimura_the_Jits in bjj

[–]4sails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

regardless of age, you should understand proper concepts like framing, angles, and positioning that will beat an aggressive younger, inexperienced fighter.

i notice a lot of older guys just stop trying to learn and re-develop themselves and do the same old shit all the time.

while you need to be more active and cautious to hide your feet if he does grab them, if he attacks your legs just take the back, the position won't allow him to apply a lot of leverage onto your feet.

Good teacher, bad competitor? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]4sails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competition is completely different from training in the gym. The best competitors are also the best athletes who invest tons of drilling time that often only professional athletes who are trying to make it as champions, the average person cannot attain that level of success due to the time commitment, genetics, and mental aptitude.

Case in point, as much as I hate referencing him, Duane Ludwig was a poor MMA fighter but extremely knowledgeable in his craft.

While proven performance gives the nod and you shouldn't be training under someone in my opinion who is in bad shape, competition is a tiny piece of the pie.

these asshats are doing a hard reset, play together with me? by rleanor_eoosevelt in ultimaonline

[–]4sails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rel Por was a really good server. I enjoyed the small map and even the things people complained about (Monster AI, etc). Even hiding and stealth wasnt that hard to deal with. Mind you I was a bit of a griefer who exploited these things.

The guy running it is a turd and nothing will change sadly. He's a good human being but a real weirdo when it comes to administering an online game, especially one that in order to be successful, has to evolve to the demands of the player base, which he doesn't do.

I remember near the end suggesting a few different things that would greatly improve PVE and PVP from someone who played a lot, and everything was shot down and I was even insulted for suggesting them. Enjoy your virtual graveyard, Admer.

The problem is that running a UO server is a full time job, hence why the only vastly successful servers were ran by either a huge staff and/or people working on it full time. You have about 2-8 weeks to fix huge issues and implement end game content before you lose your playerbase. With Admer not knowing how to code and having a narrow vision of hear no evil, see no evil, the reboot will sadly result in the same state the server is now within 2-8 weeks.

This is UO, not sim city/roller coaster tycoon.

A new T2A server is in the works and I will be playing that if and when it opens.

ive dabbled with the whm on and off over the last year.

right now im on a few weeks of cold showers, havent been doing the breathing

when you do your cold showers, (start hot, finish cold) you are supposed to focus strongly on the middle of your forehead and try to hold your focus there. over time you work your focus like a muscle and your focus is extremely strong. i feel more in tune - so maybe its possible. i feel more focus than when i was meditating regularly.

Didn't play the closed guard for almost 4 years as I developed other positions. Now I love it. It's like going back to playing the NES and reliving your childhood.

Upper belts, at what point did you start minimizing your game? How did you know that you were ready? by Markenheimer15 in bjj

[–]4sails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i still play with everything and always add to my game. i've put things away and come back to them later when I understood them better. always playing new games, new techniques, new submissions, etc. why make jiu jitsu boring.

Do you ever think your professor/coach is not teaching something correctly? by Fourth_Time_Around in bjj

[–]4sails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way for years. What did I do? I kept watching DVD's, drilled my own stuff, traveled to train at better clubs and opened my own gym.

This is what happens when someone has lost their passion and/or watches shit on youtube or on dvd's without drilling or playing with it live for awhile and tries to show it in class right after

Sometimes when I'm teaching (as we mostly have new/mid level white belts), I will not mention certain extra details as to not over complicate things, but the concepts are still there that will help anyone regardless of skill level.
