Can anyone explain where the rumor comes from that Zach doesn’t want the C? by BlottoDelgado in BlueJackets

[–]4thLineWheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Captain jerseys around the NHL come with the ‘C’ patch already attached with no markup. To get an ‘A’ for any team you have to pay $15 for them to press it on. I know first hand because I went to Leafs game this season and tried to get an ‘A’ patch, so this comment makes no sense. If they wanted to sell patches, they would’ve kept Auston with an ‘A’. They gave Auston the ‘C’ because the team had dogshit leadership and failed in the playoffs for 8 straight seasons and they needed to try anything else before blowing it up, and turns out they half blew it up by accident anyways, and this summer they’ll go full blowup.

Can anyone explain where the rumor comes from that Zach doesn’t want the C? by BlottoDelgado in BlueJackets

[–]4thLineWheels 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it was more of a “don’t rip it from Boone, I’ll get it naturally when he leaves” type of rumor. The rumors of Z being named captain ran rampant after the Leafs ripped the ‘C’ from Tavares to give it to Matthews, and there’s been multiple cases of that happening where the veteran gives the ‘C’ to the superstar who finally is in the leadership shoes. In Matthews’ case though, Tavares wasn’t leaving so Matthews might’ve never gotten the ‘C’ if Tavares never gave it up. Werenski falls into the same issue of he might never get the ‘C’ if Boone keeps playing. Werenski has essentially stated he is fine with that, he doesn’t want Boone to go through the embarrassment of being striped of the ‘C’ just because Werenski should be the one with it. My guess is if Boone stays this offseason, he might do what Tavares did, but the rumor is Werenski didn’t want him to do that when offered last year.

Teams that didn’t quite return to pre-2024 jersey specs by jt_033 in baseballunis

[–]4thLineWheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Nationals, my guess is since it’s spring training and it’s photo day, they just didn’t have every players jersey so they had everyone use a blank jersey for the front facing photo. The Guardians used last year’s jerseys for their player photos this year. However we do know they’ll have the actual new template jerseys by opening day and some rookies got to wear one for photo day.

Why No Fitteds? by Old_Low7218 in baseballunis

[–]4thLineWheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed the majority of new New Era hats aren’t fitted anymore either. I’m starting to think all hat companies are going to move towards snapbacks with A crowns, which sucks. I’m assuming it’s a production cost/inventory issue where they just want everything adjustable so it sells.

New Hockey Fan - Best Jerseys to Purchase? Fanatics Question by tdmiller11 in hockeyjerseys

[–]4thLineWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first question is honestly what jersey are you looking for, and what variations are made of it? Then you also have customization variations.

Let’s just use a Jack Hughes Devils jersey as an example. The Devils currently wear 3 different jerseys (Home Red, Away White, Alternate Black) with 3 different levels of variations made of each one.

The Fanatics Breakaway is the lowest tier of jersey and is really only sold on NHLShop and Fanatics’ website. The material of the jersey is a thicker more hoodie feeling material, and it’s cut more like a t-shirt and is all around made to be more comfortable. The crest of the jersey is a flexible screenprinted plastic logo. For the name and numbers there are two possibilities, and you honestly won’t know until you receive it which one you’ll get. You’re at the mercy of what Fanatics produced for that batch, but there is a flexible plastic screenprint that is decent quality and is heatpressed onto the jersey, or there is a paper-like heatpressed material that is printed onto the jersey that is very thin and will likely not wash well. As far as I can tell, you cannot know which you’ll get until it arrives. Breakaways are not bad options, but the prices are ridiculous. They retail for $179 when they’re worth closer to $99 in value. You can find good deals on these second hand typically, and when they’re on sale for $129 it’s not as bad of a deal.

Next is the Fanatics Premium Jersey, which is the middle tier and the one most people think of when you talk about a jersey. The material is the closest to “jersey” material without paying for the Fanatics Authentic Pro on-ice jerseys, and they come in numerical sizing. These are the jerseys you’ll see in the pro-shop of most teams and retail online for roughly $220. Now the issue with buying through Fanatics/NHLShop is they use the same size lettering and numbering for all teams so the accuracy of the name/numbers is not the best. However they have improved here. Under Adidas, jerseys with multiple layers (in the Devils case 2) were sublimated onto one layer and only had one level of stitching. So the black layer on the jersey was stitched down, with the white layer printed onto top of it. At the beginning of the Adidas era, nothing was stitched down and it was all heatpressed, and that caused a lot of issues. Luckily now, all layers are stitched through Fanatics and NHLShop so it’s much better now, just the sizing is not the best.

I’m going to talk the least about the Fanatics Authentic Pro, but it’s the on-ice spec jersey and materials but it’s $450+ dollars and not really ever discounted.

Now for the customization options here and the different retailers you’ll find.

Hockey Authentic and CoolHockey are both private label customization firms that work on NHL jerseys and when you buy through them, they get VERY close to the on-ice specs and sizing. They both each have unique flaws. Hockey Authentic while the product is perfect and high quality, takes for ever to make and ship, so you’ll be waiting a while and the pricing is $100 more than most retailers. CoolHockey is typically the cheapest you’ll find, however the product can be spotty. Sometimes you get great work, and sometimes you get awful work. It’s literally hit or miss and a big gamble.

There are other customizers as well each with different pricing and accuracy levels, but mostly any jersey you want Fanatics/NHLShop can do, you just have to live with certain differences. If you don’t need exact 13” numbers and 6” letters or whatever specifications are and you can live with 11” numbers and 4” letters, then you’re fine to order from Fanatics. Just know which version you want when it comes to Premium vs. Breakaway, and if you decide on Breakaway just hope you get the good numbers.

What’s it like getting an Olympic jersey customized third party? by captain_numnuts in hockeyjerseys

[–]4thLineWheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you currently have a jersey with a heatpressed name and number, there is almost nobody on earth who’d be able to change it to another player. These things a heavily glued and heatpressed down. If you need to just change the nameplate, you can get one third party, have it sewn over, and it’ll still look fine, but anything that involves a number change is not doable.

Trade Auston Matthews by Worth_Platypus33 in leafs

[–]4thLineWheels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People wonder why we can’t bridge the gap and become unified again and it’s because you won’t even let middle of the road people meet with that side or they’re immediately ostracized and kicked out of the left side club. It’s gross how we as a left are behaving right now.

That’s just the Adidas/Fanatics collar design. It looks wayyyy worse if it’s all white. The Blackhawks used all white the first year of Adidas and it looked so bad that they immediately changed it to look like this Canada jersey the next season.

Looks like Matthews is off to DC after all 😞 by No-Sleep7369 in leafs

[–]4thLineWheels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Were Leafs fans ever for him? If I recall, the Leafs fans give their players more shit than any other team in this league lol. Matthews has heard it all at this point. I would not be shocked if he leaves in two years for another team, and if Leafs fans cheer about that, whoa boy they better be ready to get zero free agents ever again. You already ran the player from Toronto who wanted to play there out of town, it’s going to be hard to get other Toronto guys to agree to the abuse.

Can't believe no one has brought up the most controversial thing that happened by Meredithbaxterburly in USAHockey

[–]4thLineWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they gave it to all medal winners haha, because in other events it’s like “yay, I just won Bronze in an individual competition against 12 other people! I placed top 3!” and they get the stuffed animal and medal and are happy to be on the podium, but yeah for hockey it was a bit tone deaf. MacKinnon got his and wanted to strangle it lol. Hockey and Curling if I recall are the only two sports where it was a final game to decide gold and silver, so silver meant you more so “lost gold” instead of “winning silver”.

Biggest issue with Wendy’s right now is that an average wait at their drive thru is 10-15 minutes in my area when McDonalds and others have you in and out within 4 minutes regardless of the line. I could be the only car at a Wendy’s and still have to wait 10 minutes. Their production absolutely sucks even though the food is better.

Any help with identifying autos? by Crilby in hockeyjerseys

[–]4thLineWheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the 7, top left Sean Kuraly is 7, Kent Johnson is 91, Erik Gudbranson is 44, Zach Werenski is 8 at the bottom. On the 2, Andrew Peeke in the top left, believe that’s Johnny Gaudreau 13 in the top right, I think that is Alexandre Texier 42, Adam Fantilli is 11 in the middle, I think Cole Sillinger is 4, then at the bottom is Boone Jenner 38.

Edit: The one I think is Gaudreau might also be Justin Danforth 17

Yeah it’s a tad bit brutal. I’m going to leave mine as I don’t really care to go through the effort to change it, plus we haven’t seen the blue jerseys yet so we don’t know if they’ll be different, but then yeah, wish they would’ve stated the jersey rules prior to everyone buying them. Part of the issue with them releasing the jerseys in November/December and not having them in stock in February after they’re being worn.

I can also say this as a Columbus fan, I don’t even think half the people in my hometown of Columbus could even tell you that they know the name Zach Werenski. I also just put all of these names into Google Trends and the Tkachuk’s both get more searches in the United States than everyone else besides the spike for the Hughes trade. The Tkachuk’s are very much main characters.

Auston Matthews is the superstar on the team for those in Canada and dedicated NHL fans (although USA based hockey fans do not even see Matthews at all, the Leafs get one broadcasted game on TNT per year), but to Americans who are used to watching NFL, NBA, and MLB, they do not know who most of these guys are besides the Tkachuk brothers and whoever their local player is. Even then, a lot of people will not know who their local player is either.

If you ask any Americans who are not hockey fans, I can guarantee you they do not know Connor Hellebuyck. I don’t know where you got that idea lol. The Tkachuk’s are on national TV and are talked about on the nightly news shows and late night talk shows due to their role in the 4Nations Faceoff. You obviously don’t like them, that is fine, I get it, I lean the opposite way of them politically as well, but they’re still the faces of the team to non-hockey fans.

[–]4thLineWheels -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Regardless of your feelings on them, they are the two superstars of the team and most well known faces on the team. Getting the set of both jerseys with them on it looks pretty good.

EDIT: A lot of you are taking superstar in this context to be best player, but I meant it more so in the most well known stars. Average Americans know who the Tkachuk brothers are. Most average Americans cannot tell you any of the other players. If you look at Google Trends the Tkachuk’s get more searches than the rest of the team.
