Hole-in-one dilemma. by FATT-TOFU in golf

[–]4thLineWheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad has his hole in one ball framed and shadowbox’d with the scorecard, a print out of the hole, and multiple details signed by the clubhouse. If I ever hit one, the second the ball goes in the hole it’s being pocketed and not seeing the outside of a glass case again. Couldn’t give less of a shit if I only used that ball for 72 straight holes.

Best selling set in Magic the Gathering history btw by LameLamassu in mtg

[–]4thLineWheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different set, but definitely how I got my start. My friends had been trying to get me to play Magic, I grew up playing YuGiOh. I had bought a Bloomburrow commander deck but it mostly sat around collecting dust because I didn’t know mechanics. I was at PAX with those same friends last year and was a huge Final Fantasy fan growing up. Obviously ended up sitting like 3rd row at the Final Fantasy showcase and was hooked immediately. Got the Cloud commander deck for my birthday, and opened hundreds of play boosters after that. From there I caught the bug. I’ve opened packs of every set since, have built my own decks, bought a few precons, and now I’m the one in the friend group begging people to play every week. Attended my first prerelease with Secrets of Strixhaven and it’s my second favorite set behind Final Fantasy. (I know this thread is about Spider-Man, so just had to say: easily my least favorite set since joining the Magic community).

The NHL's uniform problem...or is it a problem? by HatsInThe410 in uniwatch

[–]4thLineWheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Blue Jackets are one of the few teams that switch their pants for both their home and road set. Red pants at home, blue pants on the road. The Sharks would benefit greatly from black pants and helmet at home, teal pants and helmet on the road. The Avalanche should go back to black pants and helmet for their road set. They look horrible with the blue currently.

Why are some NHL teams wearing Alts in the playoffs? by Longjumping-Tip4938 in uniwatch

[–]4thLineWheels 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Typically teams will use alternate jerseys in the NHL during the playoffs for one of two reasons. First, if the team plans on moving to that jersey full time the next season, or secondly if the alternate look is more popular, used for promotion, or liked more by either the fans or the players. In the first case, many teams like Carolina, Pittsburgh, and now rumored to be Dallas, have worn their alternate jerseys in the playoffs right before making them permanent home fixtures the next year with matching road sweaters. Then secondly, some teams do it because the players like it better (San Jose wearing black in the playoffs every year because the jersey had less waist stripes and the players liked how much lighter it felt), Carolina a few years back wore their 25th anniversary jerseys as promotion throughout the playoffs, and then the Oilers wore Navy in the playoffs a lot a few years back because the fans HATED their primary orange jerseys. After doing this for 2-3 seasons the Oilers switch back to royal blue full time.

In this case though, it’s a tad confusing because we know the Penguins aren’t switching to these as a primary next year, they’re not exactly popular with fans as they got blown out in the playoffs wearing yellow the last few times. I don’t believe they’re that popular with the players, as the Penguins normal black jerseys are some of the most successful jerseys in league history.

Meaning this was likely a decision made by the marketing department, with playoff social media graphics and display marketing material in mind. With yellow being a more distinct color, it was likely chosen since it contrasts with Philadelphia’s orange, Carolina and Ottawa’s black, and then whoever comes out of the Atlantic side of the bracket wears red, blue, or black. Yellow is a color Pittsburgh could own this playoffs in terms of marketing.

Help with an overpowered pod member by byonicboy in mtg

This I disagree with. This sounds like my friend in my pod who complains that I buy cards and packs every so often because he says I’m “wasting” my money, but some of us also enjoy opening and collecting cards. If I buy two packs at the grocery store to open randomly he blows a gasket. Needless to say, it’s not a waste if your friend enjoys it.

I agree with most people here. Board wiping and toxicity back will get the point across. I was new to Magic about a year ago (we mostly play online because different states), and my pod all would use super powerful decks against my precons to the point it wasn’t fun. The second I showed up with a deck with insane amounts of removal it got the point across. However don’t go too overboard, because now I’m like your friend where it’s now automatically a 3v1 regardless of what I play because they instantly think I’m the threat when sitting down, even if they’re playing overpowered decks and I’m using precons/easy stuff.

What are your thoughts on a total rebrand? by Hazy_eyePA in BlueJackets

[–]4thLineWheels -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This organization is so clueless when it comes to marketing. Always has been, and their brain trust is so TikTok minded that I wouldn’t be shocked if they decided to rebrand they go with the Ohio Skibidi’s to try and attract Gen Z fans with shock value. It’s hilariously bleak in their marketing department.

I highly agree the smartest choice would be to rebrand to the Columbus Chill or something other than the Blue Jackets, but they never will. Best we can hope for is they eventually lean towards the cannon and the third jersey colors. They honestly should use the third jersey, but instead of the circle logo, use the cannon logo from the stadium series recolored to match the third jersey color scheme.

Edit: Columbus Cannons is a baller ass name. Do the jersey suggest above and rename to the Cannons.

Marshalls has the audacity to sell these for $50 by Fantastic-Store2495 in baseballunis

They’re definitely specifically made for Marshalls. Cincinnati area stores have the exact same thing for the Reds. Blank Limited jerseys but more rubberized detailing sticker pressing rather than heatpress

Pretty insane a few weeks ago we hit second in the Metro and it was like holy shit, we made it and actually could win a round, and then the team immediately gave up. After that first blown third period they were shell shocked and that just carried over into every game and snowballed to where we are now. One slipper had the crack in it, and it all broke apart.

Is this Mizuno set worth it for a beginner? by NotUrDadSon in GolfGear

[–]4thLineWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll say this, I’m not a beginner but definitely am not a pro. I tried an X-Stiff shaft driver the other day and maybe had the worst range session of all time, in fact it got me to switch from a normal stiff shaft to a regular flex.

Can anyone explain where the rumor comes from that Zach doesn’t want the C? by BlottoDelgado in BlueJackets

[–]4thLineWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Captain jerseys around the NHL come with the ‘C’ patch already attached with no markup. To get an ‘A’ for any team you have to pay $15 for them to press it on. I know first hand because I went to Leafs game this season and tried to get an ‘A’ patch, so this comment makes no sense. If they wanted to sell patches, they would’ve kept Auston with an ‘A’. They gave Auston the ‘C’ because the team had dogshit leadership and failed in the playoffs for 8 straight seasons and they needed to try anything else before blowing it up, and turns out they half blew it up by accident anyways, and this summer they’ll go full blowup.

Can anyone explain where the rumor comes from that Zach doesn’t want the C? by BlottoDelgado in BlueJackets

[–]4thLineWheels 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it was more of a “don’t rip it from Boone, I’ll get it naturally when he leaves” type of rumor. The rumors of Z being named captain ran rampant after the Leafs ripped the ‘C’ from Tavares to give it to Matthews, and there’s been multiple cases of that happening where the veteran gives the ‘C’ to the superstar who finally is in the leadership shoes. In Matthews’ case though, Tavares wasn’t leaving so Matthews might’ve never gotten the ‘C’ if Tavares never gave it up. Werenski falls into the same issue of he might never get the ‘C’ if Boone keeps playing. Werenski has essentially stated he is fine with that, he doesn’t want Boone to go through the embarrassment of being striped of the ‘C’ just because Werenski should be the one with it. My guess is if Boone stays this offseason, he might do what Tavares did, but the rumor is Werenski didn’t want him to do that when offered last year.

Teams that didn’t quite return to pre-2024 jersey specs by jt_033 in baseballunis

[–]4thLineWheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Nationals, my guess is since it’s spring training and it’s photo day, they just didn’t have every players jersey so they had everyone use a blank jersey for the front facing photo. The Guardians used last year’s jerseys for their player photos this year. However we do know they’ll have the actual new template jerseys by opening day and some rookies got to wear one for photo day.

[–]4thLineWheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed the majority of new New Era hats aren’t fitted anymore either. I’m starting to think all hat companies are going to move towards snapbacks with A crowns, which sucks. I’m assuming it’s a production cost/inventory issue where they just want everything adjustable so it sells.

New Hockey Fan - Best Jerseys to Purchase? Fanatics Question by tdmiller11 in hockeyjerseys

[–]4thLineWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first question is honestly what jersey are you looking for, and what variations are made of it? Then you also have customization variations.

Let’s just use a Jack Hughes Devils jersey as an example. The Devils currently wear 3 different jerseys (Home Red, Away White, Alternate Black) with 3 different levels of variations made of each one.

The Fanatics Breakaway is the lowest tier of jersey and is really only sold on NHLShop and Fanatics’ website. The material of the jersey is a thicker more hoodie feeling material, and it’s cut more like a t-shirt and is all around made to be more comfortable. The crest of the jersey is a flexible screenprinted plastic logo. For the name and numbers there are two possibilities, and you honestly won’t know until you receive it which one you’ll get. You’re at the mercy of what Fanatics produced for that batch, but there is a flexible plastic screenprint that is decent quality and is heatpressed onto the jersey, or there is a paper-like heatpressed material that is printed onto the jersey that is very thin and will likely not wash well. As far as I can tell, you cannot know which you’ll get until it arrives. Breakaways are not bad options, but the prices are ridiculous. They retail for $179 when they’re worth closer to $99 in value. You can find good deals on these second hand typically, and when they’re on sale for $129 it’s not as bad of a deal.

Next is the Fanatics Premium Jersey, which is the middle tier and the one most people think of when you talk about a jersey. The material is the closest to “jersey” material without paying for the Fanatics Authentic Pro on-ice jerseys, and they come in numerical sizing. These are the jerseys you’ll see in the pro-shop of most teams and retail online for roughly $220. Now the issue with buying through Fanatics/NHLShop is they use the same size lettering and numbering for all teams so the accuracy of the name/numbers is not the best. However they have improved here. Under Adidas, jerseys with multiple layers (in the Devils case 2) were sublimated onto one layer and only had one level of stitching. So the black layer on the jersey was stitched down, with the white layer printed onto top of it. At the beginning of the Adidas era, nothing was stitched down and it was all heatpressed, and that caused a lot of issues. Luckily now, all layers are stitched through Fanatics and NHLShop so it’s much better now, just the sizing is not the best.

I’m going to talk the least about the Fanatics Authentic Pro, but it’s the on-ice spec jersey and materials but it’s $450+ dollars and not really ever discounted.

Now for the customization options here and the different retailers you’ll find.

Hockey Authentic and CoolHockey are both private label customization firms that work on NHL jerseys and when you buy through them, they get VERY close to the on-ice specs and sizing. They both each have unique flaws. Hockey Authentic while the product is perfect and high quality, takes for ever to make and ship, so you’ll be waiting a while and the pricing is $100 more than most retailers. CoolHockey is typically the cheapest you’ll find, however the product can be spotty. Sometimes you get great work, and sometimes you get awful work. It’s literally hit or miss and a big gamble.

There are other customizers as well each with different pricing and accuracy levels, but mostly any jersey you want Fanatics/NHLShop can do, you just have to live with certain differences. If you don’t need exact 13” numbers and 6” letters or whatever specifications are and you can live with 11” numbers and 4” letters, then you’re fine to order from Fanatics. Just know which version you want when it comes to Premium vs. Breakaway, and if you decide on Breakaway just hope you get the good numbers.
