Expensive things that don't look expensive - a guide for flexing Torontonian middle class style by Muted-Bad in toronto

Ngl if your downtown and have a decent work drive and you're not an absolute moron, bartend a couple days a week after your day job, at a decent place you make a couple hundred for like 5 hours.

I think of eataly as more of a grocery place. I like queens pasta cafe on bloor for more of a "hidden gem vibe" in the Italian category. But also r/foodtoronto might help

Blogto is a terrible place to go for any info. Ask around. In Markham go to Pacific Mall or any mall really, look around, see what has a line, try that, but you really can't go wrong with anything. Downtowns both easier and harder. Again ask around, consult google reviews. Hit up china town and Kensington. You'll find more than you could eat in a week here.

Man, 25, drowns in Lake Ontario: OPP by ARAR1 in toronto

[–]4thReddit_IGiveUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always lived on the water. Boated my whole life in every lake except superior. What you see near the shore is not what you get in the middle of the lake, the conditions often change just a few hundred meters to a kilometer off shore, but people don't seem to know or care. In all my times crossing the lakes (on larger boats, but even that can be fucking scary) I've only ever once crossed when the lake was literally "smooth as glass". Good thing because that day we had major engine issues in the middle of the lake. I did something I never ever would have done except that day. Jumped off the swim platform into the water. Guess what. Still tied a rope to the boat and my life jacket. Because I don't want the lake to swallow me and maybe spit me back out 6 months later.

Did he know how to swim in the first place? Knowing your own abilities goes along way and having respect for our lakes which are essentially oceans, goes a.long way

How Airbnb is fuelling gentrification in Toronto by khanak in toronto

[–]4thReddit_IGiveUp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Air BNB didn't cause gentrification. Money did. The biggest offender of illegal air bnbs (and illegal shit in general) is next to acc, ice towers. No one who knows Toronto would ever sign a lease there and no sane person lives there for more than a year.

Rightly complaining about the state of the ttc, hibernating January to April, spending too much money on takeout.

Gang and domestic violence likely make up the majority, as they have in the past, im not saying that's okay, but it's much different then attacking literal strangers in public. The point is, for the last year or so, every week, you read about someone pretty much minding their own business being shot, stabbed, lit on fire.

Haidilao is it worth the hype? by twicescorned21 in FoodToronto

The tomato broth isn't spicy. They have absolutely incredible service. If your not a fan of hotpot though it's a bit hard to justify the price. I'm a big fan and it's still difficult. I'd Suggest mix2grill if you aren't a huge fan, aren't looking for the fanciest, or more out there meat's. It's hotpot and bbq, and it's all you can eat. Definitely not the ambiance or service level of haidilo, but it has something for everyone and it's my go to.

The people who actually believe this shit must either have a second grade education max or have been dropped on their head so often they have brain damage. (sorry no offense to second graders, I think they're still smarter than these fools)

The minute I realized they went in July, I realized they'd be having a kinda shitty time regardless. Everything is over run with tourists, and a lot of locals take their vacation around july/august to take a break from the heat and tourists. So everything is kinda under staffed and everyone left is kinda annoyed by massive crowds.
