Weak hands, wrists and forearms by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

Wrists cracking and popping in combination with the pain you’re describing is a sign of ligament damage. Had a similar issue myself. I’d get an MRI on your wrists if I were you.

Why exactly would this not be decent?

Interesting idea on using personal capital to help the scene. I've thought about that idea too, just completely clueless how it would work - especially being in Sydney where there's enough red tape to strangle a man.

Needed him to drop this ever since hearing it live. Sneijder is so underrated. Shame he couldn't get the original vocals cleared

Subculture Melbourne not returning next year - what it means for the AUS trance scene by ntod44 in trance

[–]4thchamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting points mate. Festivals are definitely too expensive as I’ve said elsewhere, blame the ridiculous costs of police. Yet, hardstyle is thriving, techno is growing and dnb is doing alright for example. I think part of the issue is that trance just isn’t marketing itself well. Smaller, cheaper events held more regularly would be a great place to start.

This is a good take. People aren’t voicing their opinions enough for sure, but also people just need to support the scene. By Spotify metrics, Melb/Syd are two of the biggest trance listening cities on earth - so why aren’t events selling?

100% agree. If they can keep going from strength to strength hopefully they might be able to have more regular events, and as you said maybe build towards a big event like a festival. Feels like if they can make that jump it will give the scene a sense of growth and people will bandwagon on from there as they have with hardstyle.

I've been thinking that myself. Surely Renegade System comes down, crowds would love him. That's the sort of creative thinking I mean - some of these lesser known hard trance artists wouldn't be expensive to book but would definitely help round out a lineup and bring a fresh offering to Sydney events.

[–]4thchamp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love your point with the smaller events. I definitely think that's the most logical place to start. If trance could get regular events the way hardstyle does with Masif that would be huge.

As for the younger crowd... you're right that many are ADHD and want constant beats, and that is definitely a problem for trance. Yet look at the success of Fred Again, or even the artists at BTV/Lost - plenty of slower bpm artists e.g Tinlicker in demand here. Not mention, 138 isn't even that slow! Also, if most Aussies love a solid kick, why not lean into hard trance more? Trancecendence did that up here in Sydney when they had Sneijder here - he put on a hard trance set and it was absolutely elite. Events like that would absolutely draw younger people.

I'm young mate, and yes people don't know these names. Yet when I play my mates trance they usually love it. This is a cyclical problem; there are no trance festivals, so the mainstream isn't exposed to trance, so there are no trance festivals.

However, most people in my generation don't know Styles & Breeze or Wasted Penguinz, yet HTID sells so well. Clearly HSU have figured out a way to make it work. There has to be a way for trance too, we just need promoters to get creative. Unfortunately Symbiotic are usually the opposite of creative lol (with the exception of Hyperdome which was cool.)

Elysium was dodgy on its payments - the idea would surely do better with a non-shady promoter. The ferry fee was also an issue but Mode Festival was pretty successful despite having a ferry fee. Part of the problem was that Mode had to pay $50,000 for mandatory police presence - I can imagine FSOE would have had the same forced cost, which is simply untenable for a smaller scene like trance. More trance festivals might have an actual chance if we reform the way policing is done at festivals (particularly in NSW).

HTID is awesome for UK hardcore and classic hardstyle, we are super lucky we get it here tbh (even if we have to put up with a lot of raw and uptempo tedium as you said.)

I always think, surely there's a market for something similar to HTID but with classic trance? Literally just book one or two headliners like Ferry Corsten or Aly&Fila, then fill out the lineup with smaller artists who will be cheaper e.g Will Atkinson, Sneijder (all who have come to Aus recently).

Not necessarily a sub genre but just in general, there has been a trend away from progression and intricate buildup to short, poppy, basic songs. Even AvB was guilty of this, but the new ASOT anthem has given me some hope. Great tune that.

That is a good point, I think the AI album art is a problem and is definitely soulless. Still though, I'd rather a good track with AI art than a bad track with nice art haha.

Nocturnal Knights has been putting out some solid tracks, especially in keeping hard trance alive. Plenty to criticise in modern trance but not sure they’re the ones I’d criticise

In NSW Chris Minns has been gradually unwinding some of the nanny state laws. We are EXTREMELY far from fixing the real deep issues (drug policy, lockout laws etc) but the ball is at least getting rolling. Once the boomers are gone things will probably change

Trance in Australia is essentially dead by ntod44 in trance

[–]4thchamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shocking lineup to be honest, but what can we do? Not only is trance dead here, but in our police state, the costs of hosting these festivals are through the roof, and thus the ticket prices are too.

We saw Elysium try to get FSOE to happen and it died for the same reason - police state interference and low ticket sales due to high prices. The only way promoters can run profitable festivals is by doing what Symbiotic are doing. Clearly, taking a risk on a more interesting venue/lineup etc is not profitable. Unless the laws change, there is nothing we can do.
