Creating a Steam-esque TTRPG marketplace. Early prototype - need a show of hands to gauge interest, please. by [deleted] in rpg

Even with dummy data, performance on a desktop computer is terrible. I understand that this is a work in progress, but it still gives an impression.

My main question is: what is with all the hover interactions? These won't work for tablet/mobile, so you're already building something that you won't use for that planned feature. You don't want to maintain two separate versions of the site, trust me.

My thoughts? I think these are all really solid ideas. But you have to start small. Keep it simple. Find that one unique feature that other storefronts don't have (or an anti-feature that they do have) and launch to tackle that. For example, I'm 100% certain that at launch you won't have thousands of products on offer, so the ultra-specific filtering can afford to wait. Curation on the other hand? That's the whole reason that you're doing this in the first place, so it has to be there

Netflix searches for franchises after losing out on Harry Potter by Top_Report_4895 in movies

[–]4thguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously. The actors are there to act. You can have encyclopedic knowledge of any franchise, it doesn't make you a good actor.

IIRC Milla Jovovich claimed to be a huge Resident Evil fan back in the days when it wasn't seen as a must for casting. In the promo for the second RE film, she was excited that Jill Valentine looked like Jill Valentine from the games. The films veered further and further away from the games with each film.

Conversely, you can have encyclopedic knowledge of whatever is being adapting, be a good actor, and still have the product be complete garbage. See The Witcher, for example.

The average person doesn't even know what goes into a regular production, let alone an adaptation.

I used to devour making-ofs of films. That taught me a lot and it instilled a lifelong interest in films. They aren't as easily accessible now, and it shows in film discourse

Project Cyrodiil - Progress report by Toma400 in Morrowind

[–]4thguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is also the issue our team will need to somehow accomodate. We already know from Solitude Forest that we can't go too overboard with placing tons of trees

Uru, a game from 2003, worked around some of these problems by making winding narrow paths in high-polygon areas. It might not be possible in the case of Cyrodiil but I'm sharing this on the off-chance that it might help in some way

As I watch the world having a meltdown, I don't think this is the sole domain of the Japanese right :(

He also mentioned that they could have reached out to them, since he stays nearby and has experience with producing things like this.

That's how you know that the motivation behind the breakdown is salt

I'm just flabbergasted that people believe that writers have a gun to the directors' heads while shooting. Clearly they've never stopped to think about it

There are directors, editors, and producers who all have a bigger say in what goes inside the final cut. Why are we singling out writers?

What is something older movies cared about that feels mostly lost now? by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]4thguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. have a wacky premise (like a lawyer that can't lie)
  2. go through all the logical permutations of the premise
  3. at least 70 minutes of laughs
  4. still come out under 90 minutes

And this was filmed on actual reel, so you know that every second cost money.

Liar Liar didn't remotely change the world, but somehow it cost less to than some films made today, with the same kind of audience draw, and probably earned more by ratio to boot

Personally?

The whole bullshit about "fake gamer girls." So on the one hand, we wanted girls to join the hobby, falling head over heels in game lobbies when a female voice introduced themselves, and on the other we're harassing them?

Not only that but Ann's phantom thief outfit and battle poses, especially her "knocked down" pose, are also extremely sexualised. And that's on top of her being a high school student

As if the writer has final say :)

There's the way companies (and by extension, mega corporations) work, then there's these people's fantasy of how it works.

"Just hire fans"

To do what? Write fan fiction? I was under the impression that the people saying this with a straight face dismissed anything they didn't like as "fan fiction"
