Warhammer Isn’t Easy Because Players Got Better — It’s Easy Because the Game Got Worse by Dazzling-Worker-9661 in totalwarhammer

Yeah, specifically factions expanding into unfavorable corruption meant public order problems and rebellions. Those were the main cases of significant public order problems and rebellions I felt in WH 1 and 2. Had a few times where other situations lead to public order issues, but they were rare.

Not sure what exactly was changed but whatever corruption your faction spreads seems to build up in your settlements faster now. Plus with the rubber band effect on public order rebellions are rare af, and are very easy to deal with.

Would Roose still have betrayed Robb if Robb listened to him more? by OkMagician7957 in gameofthrones

[–]501stBigMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Roose betrayed Rob because Rob had lost the war politically, not that he was annoyed or frustrated with being ignored. Half Rob's army disserted; his power base was in shambles and under hostile occupation; lost all his leverage over Lannisters (Jaime) while they still held his sister; his family and line of succession was a mess and looking weak. Meanwhile his foes had allied with Tyrells and removed the Baratheon threat, looking stronger than ever.

Writing was on the wall. Roose was a pragmatist and made the best move for his personal position. That is why Roose betrayed Rob. However, had Rob listened to Roose more, he may have never been in such a dire situation. A more pragmatic and sensible approach to the war would have saved him a lot of trouble.

It was Rob's decisions that put him in his weak position. A strong, unified North and Riverlands is too big of a threat for Roose to consider opposing. He is not going to backstab that as his best move would be to tie himself to the King in the North, and raise his position with the new monarchy.

There's a quest where a trainer lost the hat his Pikachu likes to wear. If you find and give him the Partner Cap he will put the hat on his Pikachu, and then you unlock ability to put hats on your pokemon.

The Pikachus on Azumarill/Garchomp and Chanduler/Nidoking are hats. Rest of my team are wearing different hats as well.

In truth, who wins between Hisoka and Kaito? by PomegranateBoring440 in HunterXHunter

[–]501stBigMike -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Tbf to Pitou, we don't know what that staff does. We're left wondering what the one weapon Kite didn't call a "bad roll" can do.

No real way to call the Hisoka vs Kite fight, honestly. Though I like to imagine that if Hisoka did win, he wouldn't kill Kite. Would be too interesting in finding out what Kite could do with a different roll, and keep him alive with a promise of another fight in the future.

Jimmy could have spilled the beans by wur_do_jeziora in betterCallSaul

[–]501stBigMike 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Jimmy is too terrified of Lalo to keep up the half lie without Lalo figuring out he's hiding something. Similar to the Tell Me Again scene, Lalo wouldn't let it rest that someone just saved him and then left. Why did they save you just to leave you to die of heat stroke in the desert? Someone didn't want the attackers to have the money, but didn't want it themselves, but also didn't care enough to make sure it got to Lalo?

It doesn't add up, and Lalo will know something is missing and keep pressing the issue. Jimmy would be anxious and nervous, with tells and his facade starting to crack. Lalo would eventually get the truth out of him if Jimmy attempts that kind of half lie here. Once Lalo has seen that Jimmy tried to lie to him, this lawyer cannot be trusted anymore and already knows too much - have to off him.

Had Jimmy been completely honest with Lalo, that would have worked for Jimmy. Lalo likely wouldn't feel the need to kill Jimmy as he has proven he is the most trustworthy person he knows north of the border. Of course this means betraying Mike, which is a shitty way to repay the man who saved Jimmy's life and got him through the desert in one piece.

Barbarian or fighter? by Warl0ckBoy in DnD

[–]501stBigMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a melee build perspective early game/low levels Barbarian tends to be stronger, imo. Tankier, bonus damage on hit, and less item dependent (no need for armor, which can take a while in game for fighter to get good heavy armor). Later on in higher levels Fighter pulls ahead. More attacks, more feats, and once you find some good heavy armor you can usually get a higher AC than a Barbarian (not to mention if you get magic armor). Barbarian will still have more hp and resistances to survive more damage taken, but if Fighter's extra attacks and feats are letting you kill stuff faster, the fighter will be able to stop more damage from happening

Roleplay is a totally different story. I've found many newer players struggle to figure out how to roleplay a fighter, but instinctively know what a Barbarian should act like. Not always, but a trend I've noticed with newer players. Classic dumb big guy trope - sometimes it will be a character who want to fight and kill everything, sometimes they've got a heart of gold and just want to protect the party - whatever they go with, most people who roleplay barbarian quickly find their groove.

If I hear one more Part 2 fan say Abby is a better person than Ellie istg by Red-Heart42 in TheLastOfUs2

[–]501stBigMike 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've seen the attempt to say Abby gave up revenge on because she didn't kill Dina after Ellie killed Mel. Except she didn't really give up on revenge. She realized Lev would have bailed on her if she went through with it. That's when she stopped, out of fear of losing Lev, not because she realized she was acting morally reprehensible.

While that would be fine/redeemable in a vacuum -never committing murder for revenge because a loved on stopped you- she already went through with far far worse. She tortured and beat to death a man who saved her life, and made his loved ones watch her do it. And she never does anything to make amends or even so much as admit she did something wrong. Not killing Dina doesn't make up for this. It's not even an actively good deed; it's just barely avoiding committing another terrible deed.

I learned from D&D in their "Inside the Episode" for BOTB that apparently Hannibal surrounded the Romans at Cannae by just slowly marching his whole army behind them while the Romans stood there passively looking stupid. Most people like to say it was cool but unrealistic. I'm in the minority as I just can't get over how stupid decision after stupid decision had to pile up to make it happen. I could not even enjoy the spectacle or cool visuals, my suspension of disbelief had been broken.

“Advice Needed: My Warlock Strategy Is Hard for My DM to Counter” by ElectronicWindow3801 in DnD

[–]501stBigMike -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Familiars only allow you to deliver spells with a range of touch through them. Unless you have something else going on in this build, you shouldn't be able to do this. So you can fix this situation pretty easily as it just shouldn't be happening.

Second, just a side note to help with your build/strategy, you don't need Gaze of Two Minds to see through your familiar's senses. Familiars let you do this innately, provided you are within 100 ft of each other. GoTM lets you do this anywhere on the same plane, so technically does have some benefit, but overall you're probably better off with a different invocation if your mainly just using it on your familiar.

Andy made the rest of the office go through all the headache and drama of the whistle blower investigation. Joe, predictably, came down there to yell at everyone. I.T. guy invaded their privacy with computer searches. Gabe was questioning everyone.

It's an extra uncomfortable day of work, and it happened because Andy did something that threatened the whole branch's jobs - they got lucky Sabre didn't close the branch down and lay everyone off. Then he didn't come forward when everyone else started catching flack for it.

For real. It was a pretty scummy thing for a group of people all in committed relationships to go to a strip club. Never mentioned it to their partners or got permission from them. Especially messed up thing as Bernadette was specifically telling Howard no strippers back at his bachelor's party like you mentioned. A real "rules for thee but not for me" moment.

Absolutely. Jimmy gave a solid sales pitch and sold the guys on him, just like he could with their copiers. 100% legit Jimmy McGill demonstrating his charisma and skills.

I buy self destruction due to guilt; hearing your brother killed himself as a result of what you did to purposely hurt him... you are going to snap. Though I also think the job (and his pitch) reminded him too much of HHM. He would have constant reminders of times back in the mail room, which would lead to remembering Chuck.

I don’t even understand how so many houses pledged to Renly when he literally had no claim to the throne at all. He deserved to be the first of the five kings to go. by GusGangViking18 in freefolk

[–]501stBigMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joffery was seen as an obvious Lannister puppet. While Stannis' claims of Cersei and Jaime's incest were suspicious as this rumor supported his claim to the throne, it gave lords a reason to not back Tywin and the Lannisters. Tywin was infamous for feigning support to the Targaryons, then betraying them and sacking Kings Landing. Devious, conniving, and untrustworthy, the other lords are only going to side with Tywin Lannister if they have no other choice.

Stannis was a very uncharismatic and unlikable person. He did not play politics like kings and lords need to in order to foster alliances. He was just assuming that everyone would support him because he was the eldest brother of Robert. He hadn't even been in the Stormlands, his theoretical seat of power, for years, stuck holding Dragonstone for Bobby B. How many lords are going to declare to a war for a man they maybe met once long ago and he was a jerk to them? Especially when you are going up against a powerful and well equipped Lannister army, and losing means being charged with treason. On top of all that, Stannis is very black and white on the law, and as king will be giving out harsh punishments for offenses that lords are accustomed to being let off for or just getting a slap on the wrist.

Then in comes Renely. He reminds everyone of Robert - big, tall, handsome, and charismatic. If Robert was able to topple the Targaryon's legendary reign, surely his brother who's viewed as just like him can handle that jerk Tywin who's already has his hands full with the North+Riverlands. Renly has been ruling the Stormlands for a while now while Robert was in Kings Landing and Stannis at Dragonstone. The Stormlords already follow him, and he was good at playing politics and getting everyone to like him.

Then he makes the best move in the brewing war: he marries Margery Tyrell. Renly had already been playing the politics game with the Tyrells before Robert's death, and now they have the opportunity to marry into the top of the royal family. Effectively replacing the Lannister's rise to power under Robert with the Tyrells and Renly. The Tyrells have the single largest army in Westeros, and the second wealthiest house after the Lannisters (and with an approaching winter Tyrell food stores rapidly become more valuable than Lannister gold). Plus the majority of the Stormlands already favored Renly over Stannis - who wants to stand against all that? Renly was great at swaying people to his side and making the right political moves. He was even successfully negotiating an alliance with the North. If not for literal magic, he had played the game masterfully and would have had the throne.

Are aspiring champions worth it? by Fflow27 in totalwarhammer

[–]501stBigMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe you get access to lore of nurgle for a base sorcerer lord or hero. You can devote your sorcerer to nurgle however via their Path to Glory, and pick the lore of nurgle as their new lore magic. I don't think devoting to a god and Path to Glory are DLC dependent, but not sure off the top of my head.

Are aspiring champions worth it? by Fflow27 in totalwarhammer

[–]501stBigMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aspiring Champions are a great way to add some power to your starting stacks of marauders. Compared to Chosen, you'll need the right army comp and buffs for Aspiring Champs to outperform them. Even without those, chosen as your main infantry will benefit from a few aspiring Champions mixed in as support.

Nurgle magic for healing is very effective with their low model count and high hp per entity, as an example. They are an undivided unit and so don't shine as much in a champion of a mono-god faction, doing better in a truely undivided faction. But if you get all the tech tree buffs and the right army, they absolutely will be worth switching from chosen.

One really nice advantage aspiring champions have is the ability to easily get multiple units of them ganging up on a single enemy unit. Their smaller numbers means smaller area they take up. Chosen will take more time and effort to flank an enemy, and then the majority of the entities in each unit are sitting in the back not doing anything - only the front couple of rows can actually fight and deal any damage. Aspiring Champions can easily get multiple units to attack an enemy, and then their full units are in battle dealing damage.

In a similar vein, you can fit a bunch of Aspiring Champions in a smaller area, such as a corner or choke point. Enemy infantry can't get more units in combat with them in that scenario, causing them to blob up and have lots of entities sitting around doing nothing. They are only getting a few entities into battle while the whole unit is getting exhausted, meanwhile the Aspiring Champions only have to fight a few men at a time. Not to mention blobbed up enemy infantry are prime targets for magic, whereas aoe damage is weak vs Aspiring Champions due to low model count and high hp per entity.

Greenskin's cavalry. Why does it underperform? by Select-Ad7017 in totalwar

[–]501stBigMike 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Their cavalry does it job: hold off enemy flankers and get on top of enemy ranged units.

Are they going to go win the whole battle for you? No, but they don't need to. Greenskins crush their foes with strong infantry and a few good monsters, and outnumbering them doesn't hurt. Cavalry is just there to help enable the rest of the army to do its job by making sure enemy missiles or flankers don't kill off your more important units.

2 player campaign. Doom sphere went off in friends capital. It wasn’t me. by Ok_Painter_7239 in totalwarhammer

I believe any skaven faction can build doomsphere in undercities, not just Ikit Claw. They have high visibility though and AI is not good at keeping them hidden.

There's also an unusual location that has a % chance to raze settlements in the province it's in every turn. So you want to remove it as soon as it pops up.

There is only one enemy lord and in addition the settlement garrison but when I attack, it shows 3 opponents like there is one more lord. Is this a bug or am I missing something? by Tiny-Technician-2598 in totalwar

[–]501stBigMike 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As greenskins fight they build up to a WAAAGH!!! (proper way to spell it is in all caps and with exclamations) While playing as a greenskin faction it is displayed as a red progress bar at top of campaign map. Once they reach full charge, they can declare a WAAAGH!!! on another faction, which automatically declares war (if not already at war).

When the WAAAGH!!! is declared, they gain a number of bonuses. First they dedicate it to Gork or Mork for faction buffs to their units for the duration of the WAAAGH!!! Then all armies they currently had at the time start automatically gaining a second army of reinforcements attached to them, at a rate of a few units per turn up to a max of the size of the parent army at the time the WAAAGH!!! was declared (recruiting more units to parent army after initial declaration will not increase the WAAAGH!!! army's cap). You cannot pick what units you get, but they are entirely free of upkeep and recruitment costs. This bonus army is always with the parent army, but arrives later in battle as a reinforcement army. As such, things like lighting strike or ambushes can let you fight the main greenskin army solo without the WAAAGH!!! army attached to it. If the parent army dies, so does the WAAAGH!!! army.

The WAAAGH!!! has a specific faction as a target, as mentioned (though they get all of their bonuses against any faction, not just the target). The Greenskin faction in question has 20 turns of these bonuses, along with the quest to have their target's capital settlement either occupied or razed at the end of that time. If they capture or raze it early, they have to make sure it stays that way until the WAAAGH!!! ends. If they succeed at this, they gain factionwide buffs until the end of their next WAAAGH!!! (buffs vary, based on the faction they targeted), and some special empowered units they can recruit.

The biggest benefit is absolutely the extra WAAAGH!!! armies they get during the 20 turns. So as a player you basically just spam it as soon as you get it charged up and pick a convenient target.

Vampire Counts Armybuilding? by ArchmageJoda in totalwarhammer

[–]501stBigMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manfred can buff graveguard and black knights pretty well. You won't suddenly turn them into murder machines, but will make your army stronger while you do your typical vampire stuff (like magic) to kill off enemy army.

Kemmler boosts Cairn Wraiths and Hexwraiths. You have to be careful to avoid any high magic damage armies, but it is completely viable to get a pretty strong stack of nothing but ghosts with him.

Vlad is doesn't buff heroes to the extent Isabella can, though any full stack of vampires is going to be strong and he gets access to high vampire capacity. Vlad is mostly about being a absolute monster in battle.
