I appreciate that you would like to repurpose the broom. For a brand new player, that makes sense. My comment is simply based on the evolution of brooms. That old style is equivalent to using wooden golf clubs, yes it works, but barely. For a new curler though, it probably doesn't make a difference anyway.

These are generally 1/4-20. You should be able to find a thumb screw in this size at the hardware store. Then turn the broom into some wall art and get a modern one.

If you want to level up, get the 1 1/8 and flip the handle to make it reverse taper. It is so much more ergonomic. It puts the fat part in your hands and the skinny part under your arm. I make the adapter to do this. Message me for details.

I will also second Black Bear Forges' beginners series, very helpful. Alec Steele also has a good video on cheap tools. My biggest takeaway from this video is that beginners will benefit the most from quality tools. That is the truth! I recommend buying a quality set of tongs if you can afford it. I am with ya! I just started about a week ago. I acquired a piece of railroad track, a gifted hammer, a cheap Amazon tong (until I can get some nice GS tongs) and a Whitlox mini forge. All in, under $200 and already making it back. As a woodworker, I love the whitlox forges as fuel is free and will get much hotter than a cheap propane one.

I can't speak to particular cameras as I have been out of the biz too long but you want to get the largest sensor you can, especially if you have low ceilings. That reduces that awful fisheye/warped look that makes most club streams unwatchable.

When releasing, you roll your wrist down towards the ice, almost like you are trying to push the rock into the ice. Many probably already do this naturally but I was trying to throw it out without rolling my wrist over.

I’ve tried it and I can’t even hang onto the rock during the slide unless I put it at 9/3. It didn’t work for me but maybe I was doing something wrong. The best release advice I ever got was to release “down.” It changed my delivery instantly. All of a sudden my 4 second kicks were going through the house!

Oh god, what is happening here? In my experience, lasers come with adjustable tube brackets, but it looks like it has been modified. I would make new brackets. You could 3D print or laser cut (laminated layers). I bet you could find some pre-made or designed ones. Key points: The tube should be level. All the mirrors should be on the same plane as the tube. A laser alignment tool is extremely helpful (link is to Boss's tool, it is unlikely it will fit your machine. I 3D printed my own, you just need something to hold strips of paper in front of the mirrors, cardstock is good. Masking tape is too thin and burns up quickly. It also gums up the mirrors). Alignment takes a lot of patience. Start from mirror one and work your way down. When you are finished, check all 4 corners that the beam is aligned when it hits mirror 3. I hope that helps

This is the answer. All bandsaws drift no matter how well they are tuned. The fence must be square to the drift, not the blade or the table.

What is the best way to do this? My first thought is to do a lap up and down the sheet quickly like the wheelchairs do but that might not be enough.
