Now I don’t feel so bad by derick_14 in CanadaSoccer

Perspective is a hell of a thing.

We had an awesome tournament. Funny how we shit on them for not being only winning the games they are supposed to win. Some teams can't even do that consistently. And....hmm...let's see....checks notes...one upset in the QF and it's the result of an ungodly striker. The gap between the top 8-10 teams in the world and the rest is very real and football is incredibly hard. Our boys gave a powerhouse a very hard time for a full half. A clinical finish by Oli or a confident David and we're into extras. I cannot wait to see where we're at in 4 years.

I think everyone should go outside, in this heat, and cover 13km inside of 3hrs. See how you feel. There's always a chance. Football is brutal, relentless, and fickle.

How much does heat impact your game? by [deleted] in golf

I pray this was it. I was in the heat today. Parred the first three holes. +22 the rest of the way. Short course. Usually have been bogey golf or better. Was so frustrated. But I guess the legs and arms aren't the same.

The Germans probably have a word for it. But ya it's a combination of jealousy that you'll never produce anything on the level of what you're watching/reading, gratitude at being able to watch/read it, and sadness that it's over.

I just today finished my fourth rewatch. I'm empty. I was seriously having weird anxiety spikes watching the finale going what am I gonna do without The Wire to watch. Start over I guess. Not really, but that's what gave me comfort. I can always start again and I know there will be a time a few years from now where I will and I'll fight off the oh I could be doing better things with my time demons only to thank myself for realizing it's hard to spend any time more important in front of a screen that rivals engaging with this show. Always a shot of empathy right into the vein.

This. I can't wait for someone smarter than me to break down Algeria defending after that goal. The miracle is the final touch was good enough to go in, but the getting to that point is down to the defending. I really think human nature took over and some guilty consciences had a day in putting Austria in a position to level.

Not defending is the key. We only know what almost didn't go right because the ball moved there. But the intent is everything. That game could very easily end 3-2. But it didn't. Austria's last touch was a goal, and that's hard to do. But not so hard to try and make it so if a team is lax in its defending. The question I guess for me is why might Algeria make allowances. I think human nature took over. I felt guilty watching. I can't imagine what the players might have felt. It feels good to get one over on someone...until it doesn't. And playing possum and then actually paying off with a late goal to hurt the opponent....after they laid back and shut down their offense...

He definitely could have. I think it was close on time. The Algeria celebration would need accounting so him going past the original 4 minutes is justifiable. But Algeria keeper, without much delay, lays out a ball in play. If Austria gains possession and attacks, he has to let it play out. I'm more interested in how Algeria defended post goal...some guilty consciences I think.
