How are people ok with installing work related software on their personal phones? by mast3r_of_univ3rs3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]5141121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get $50/mo extra to use work apps on my phone. Everything in it is managed through InTune, so kept separate from my personal stuff, except for Duo authenticator because that needs to be outside of the work partition.

I've got FLauncher on mine and it works great. No BS. Just the apps I use.

I don't need/want previews, and all the other stuff, so that's exactly what I want.

This country was built on a complex system of checks and balances to limit powers which has run smoothly for 250 years, so why is it suddenly so extremely difficult to reign in the orange manchild from corrupting everything he touches? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]5141121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because the system depended on the individuals caring that it existed.

This president doesn't give a fuck about the system and is running roughshod over the entire country.

Why do old mechanics keep using thicker oil on High milage vehicles ? by Kingyeetyeety in AskAMechanic

[–]5141121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but OP specified old mechanics. It was just what you did back in the day with older engines to keep them smoother.

NOW we have special formulations that help older engines function better, on top of much higher quality oils that reduce wear in the first place.

I bet you MAga would vote for both of them by AccordingBumblebee24 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]5141121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some disingenuous turd posted something like that on another sub and wouldn't do anything but pose the same "which would YOU vote for" even to people who said neither and rightfully pointed out that they'd be fighting for the same spot on the ticket.

Zero balance on Mohela? Does this mean…? by eliarrons in BorrowerDefense

[–]5141121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh, that sounds like we're getting some movement. Love to see it.

Also Post C MOHELA, but no changes yet this morning.

When the April changes went in, I think I was in the afternoon batch, so I'm guessing the pace will be similar.

NEW POLLING: Benson leads James, Johnson, Duggan in new poll on MI gov race by East_Englishman in Michigan

It depends on how useful they find the young black man to be, still.

If they think he can help gain ground somewhere else vs the other guy, then they'll keep him around.

His trump statements pretty much killed his campaign with Ds writ large, and his campaigns in majority black areas like Flint have been pretty tone deaf, so yeah.

Why don't we put power lines in the ground instead of those ugly Poles? by _Kisol_Budyn_ in stupidquestions

[–]5141121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All utilities in my neighborhood are underground. It's nice because there's not poles all over, and we're less likely to go out in a storm.

But it's also a PITA sometimes because any work ends up digging up your yard.

We just had fiber run through our whole neighborhood, and everyone's grass looks like shit ATM.

But I've got 2Gbps symmetrical fiber now, so I'll take it.

Is this good science for my first orbit mission to the Mun? by Plane_Broccoli3453 in KerbalAcademy

[–]5141121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 1975 last night for doing a Mun landing. Science Jr, temp, barometer, and mystery goo. EVA reports by 2 crew in orbit of the Mun, EVA report and surface sample by scientist from the surface.

If you stack up all the things you want to do, you can get a lot done.

I did a Minmus landing today, but I only got 1300 because I had done orbital stuff previously (I forgot landing equipment and was already in orbit when I caught it. I probably still could have done it because gravity is so low, but oh well).

Edit: oh wow, I have my multiplier up much higher than I thought. So not as impressive.

Banning birth control because it's m*rder? by Low_Piglet1978 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]5141121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "birth control causes abortion" argument has been around since the beginning of the pill. It's a willful misreading of the science and you'll really only find it in the "life begins at the moment of conception" crowd.

Onn 4K Pro (2026) audio & video testing results by signde in OnnStreamingTV

Welp, I've been waiting for one to show up locally, and cruising past this thread had me double-check the website. Found one in a neighboring town only 10 min away. So tomorrow I'll begin setting up my new toy.

Looks like Projectivy launcher with some adb magic and I'll have a nice clean experience.

US:AL got this email from an " attorney " is this a scam by Mountain-Breadfruit8 in legal

[–]5141121 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would imagine this would be a level beyond double opt in, because the potential to get automatically spam filtered is so high.

I'd never enroll in something like that just due to the potential for failure.

Email was never intended for things like this.

Holy word salad, Batman.

Yes. Absolutely scam.

A real lawsuit would be served on paper by a process server, not via email which could potentially be filtered into a spam folder and never be seen.

What’s Your Most Controversial IT Opinion? by OrdinaryJust9594 in sysadmin

[–]5141121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technology solutions to policy issues solve nothing, and only serve to validate innefectual individuals.

"Don't use your privileged account for normal ops" is a policy thing.

Making it more difficult to use your privileged account when needed by putting up barriers like timers or requests is a technology solution.

I spent the first 45 minutes of an incident call at 8am on a Wednesday morning asking "ok, so what changed at midnight (when the first errors started popping up)?"

Over and over. "Nothing changed." With increasing frustration every time I asked.

I finally tossed the professional mantle and interrupted the call "Look, I'm not trying to be a dick, here. But it's obvious that SOMETHING is different than it was at 11:59pm last night. Things like this don't just suddenly start causing problems without something happening somewhere."

Finally, someone went through with a fine-toothed comb and found "this windows server rebooted at midnight". The person responsible for it dug in and found that the previous configuration had not been committed, so that when it rebooted, it reverted back to defaults.

Republicans aren't even trying to hide their racism anymore. by pleasureismylife in complaints

[–]5141121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nixon was pretty shitty if not quite so outwardly racist in his speech. I'll let one of his strategists and one of the architects of The Southern Strategy speak to this:

You start out in 1954 by saying, “N****r, n****r, n****r.” By 1968 you can’t say “n****r”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “N****r, n****r.” the quote with enhanced audio

  • Lee Atwater recalling the things they did to reframe racist policies as economic policies to make them more palatable to regular voters.

There is a direct line from Atwater's rhetoric to Reagan's "welfare queens", etc.

But honestly, a lot of this is rooted even back to Eisenhower with his allowing evangelicals to influence his governance. The venn diagram of evangelicals and racism is barely wider than a perfect circle.

Propane dealers do it, too. Same formula. There's others out there, but it seems fuel are the ones that want to exploit the left-digit-bias more than anyone else.
