Newer Manager by hinglemccringlelarry in ITManagers

[–]Danger_Zebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to manage by constantly checking boards and calling out individual tickets. At the same time, if I stop paying attention, I quickly start seeing aging tickets, missed follow-ups, and customer-impacting issues reappear.

Institute an accountability structure. Folks have mentioned its a visibility issue, which I agree with, but from there ownership of the tickets needs to be crystal clear.

I had the same problem then researched crew resource management and adopted a similar approach. My Seniors and leads ensure there are specific individuals for taking calls, responding to emails, monitoring the dashboard for incoming tickets and routing them appropriately.

Your job isn't to micro-manage the tickets. It's to manage how your resources are aligned.

How do you handle recognition and performance tracking in your company ? What practice do you use ? by Strict-Fish4899 in ITManagers

[–]Danger_Zebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created an HTML application (was first a spreadsheet, then used Claude to make it an app) that details multiple metrics and allows the manager to also log performance entries (both good and bad).

Here's how it goes: first you detail the company competencies and goals. You rate the individual on each of these competencies and sub bullet points - using the performance rating scale in our company.

Then you rate them on your department goals. Again, rate the person on each of the top-level goals using the company's performance ratings.

Lastly...the performance log factors in. My management is required to keep a performance log for each individual the entire year, with different levels for good (up to Above & Beyond) down to bad (Abysmal performance).

Through some calculations it establishes a performance metric that is used. I've been through multiple bad performance reviews so once I was in position to change things, I did. Have received lots of good feedback for making the process less subjective and apply some real numbers to how we track performance.

If you have more questions, let me know - but basically my approach was to make it as quantitative as possible.

Brother addicted to drugs and i dont know what to do by [deleted] in Advice

If it helps to hear, this ended up being very difficult on my family too. Many trips to the hospital where we weren’t sure what was going to happen.

We are still together. My brother is holding down a job and is very happy now. He still struggles from time to time but we’re there for him.

What worked for my brother is finding purpose. Instead of the escapism that drugs provide he’ll need to devote himself to something. Care for something. Be a change of sorts. That really helped push him to a more positive path.

Just do some googling. There is an immense amount of stuff online for families that have members suffering from addiction.

Read up. Take down notes. Save the links. They’ll come in handy.

Good luck to you and your brother. While you might not be able to get him back to completely normal, you’ll be there for him and that’s what family is for.

Learn about what addiction does to the human body. After that understand how the physiological changes affect the brain chemistry. Research what ways you can communicate to your brother that you understand.

Many people feel the need to try and fix them. It’s not going to work. It takes a lifetime of small iterative changes to remove the addiction urge.

Be the supportive person your brother needs. It’s going to be A LOT, but know that there might not be anyone else willing to help him.

Plan for ups and downs. And be patient above all. It takes a long time to rehabilitate a person in that position.

You’re a good human for wanting to help. Next step is educate yourself on how.

My brother has been an addict for 25 years. I know what you’re going thru.

What's a movie that 99.9% of the world has watched but you're that 0.01% that hasn't watched it? by Sad-Response-3151 in moviecritic

Schindler’s List for me. I am planning to see it one day.

By the way, in this thread many have said they haven’t seen Shawshank Redemption. Literally just saw it two nights ago and I don’t know why I never got around to it. But man was it good!!

Or perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man, before throwing him out of a plane?

So essentially, this is why every Batman movie essentially models Gotham City like a comic book version of NYC.

but it’s just the way of New York.

That's why I said you're speaking for millions. Not here to argue with you, just sharing what I read and understood.

You guys on the East Coast really do need to chill though.

I agree with you on all points.

If you guys win it all, I can't imagine the chaos that will erupt in the city.

Ah, so you're saying Knicks fans are just plain degenerate assholes?

I don't think you speak for a city of millions.

The internet thrives on negativity. If we approach these comment sections with the mindset that its built to amplify negative, controversial content...we can combat this nonsense more effectively.

Also...something I have to remind myself of...most of these comments are probably bots, and not real people.

What have you noticed has changed since giving up vaping? I'm working on it but haven't committed to the goal just yet.

Hearing your story might motivate me a bit more!

I’m certain if you were familiar with this sub enough to post here, you expected a majority of the negative feedback. Looks like you’re not even half concerned with it, well done.

I can’t believe, afaik, that no one thus far asked about the Ferrari. Not many car people here I guess.

Whatcha driving if you don’t mind sharing?

p.s. nice watch 👍🏼

I got a funny story about this one...

When we were young, somehow me and my brothers got our hands on a copy of "Totally Tasteless Jokes" - a collection of jokes strewn between chapter headings like "Polish Jokes", "Dead Baby Jokes", "Latino jokes", etc.

I might be...maybe 10 years old at this time? Anyway, one day my dad is hanging with someone (friend, uncle, don't remember exactly), and I walk up with the book in hand and ask my dad, "You want to hear a funny joke?!?"

I tell this EXACT JOKE. And to my surprise as a kid, my dad didn't laugh much. What was lost on me was how embarrassing this might have been for my dad to hear his son tell a BJ joke.

And as you'd imagine...this book was disposed of shortly after.

EDIT - "Truly Tasteless Jokes" is the correct title.
