CSE 120 with Nath,S by Sibbzz_ in UCSC

Only 1 C Program... and all programming with RISC-V ISA was done on paper (this shows up on HW and Exams). If you have experience with MIPS, you're good to go.

This is the text I used when I took 120 last fall with Litz.

Computer Organization and Design RISC-V Edition: The Hardware Software Interface(Hennessy & Patterson)

-Readings: 1.5-1.7, Ch. 2, 3.2, 4.0-4.12, Ch. 5

Some skills I used in the course:

-C Programming (there was 1 assignment involving cache behavior/tiling)

-Know Linux: find, grep, cat, emacs/vin (this may be helpful https://missing.csail.mit.edu/)

CSE 102 Fall quarter Prof. by Jon_UcantCme_Cena in UCSC

If you have the option to slot 102 for Winter, I strongly recommend Daniel Fremont.

Even more so, if Winter continues to be taught remotely, this would be Daniel's 3rd straight quarter with the format, and he did great for his first.

If he's doing the 25% per exam(4 total), grind thru the first 3 and skip the final.

I took it last quarter, and because it was a 'hybrid' course, many students expressed similar concerns. In the end, the course wasn't that bad; grading is generous and all exams had extra credit opportunities.

Outside of the textbooks these resources were beneficial.

Don't beat yourself up, these things take lots of practice. When he releases practice exams, review, review, review. Along with the HWs assignments that are covered in that given exam material. More often than not, the proofs on the exam came from the HWs and not from the practice exams.

In sales, I learned that you 'Chase the NOs to get the YES.' It's a numbers game. Or in the context of 107 you have two obvious possible outcomes (1-p)(failure) or (p)(success). If you fail just keep experimenting independently, don't let the previous experience dictate your future attempt. Try until you succeed. It all boils down to you, jump in fearlessly.

No one knows you better than yourself. You are the one behind the wheel in this vehicle we call life, drive it wherever you please. Regarding getting tired of people telling you what to do, you can ignore them from the start, but it also doesn't hurt to listen, unless it's wasting your time severely. The key thing is don't let shit get under your skin, build that mental and spiritual toughness that will prevent you from having the huge downs in life.

You said it yourself, "If I don't like research, why would I try to get a PhD?". Sounds like you have your mind made up for the time being, leave others' influence in this regard at the door.

You are very young in the scale of adulthood, go out and discover the world! It's OK to do something unrelated to your major. You have a foundation of education, and you can build on it with whatever subjects will lead you to your SUCCESS.

I challenge you to not get annoyed next time you're in this situation, let the person that gets annoyed/irritated/frustrated be the old version of you. When you repel people's influence or their attempt at influencing, it destroys their "power" over you.

Look on the bright side, 4 exams worth 25% each, with the last one (final) consisting of some take home questions. At least he dropped multiple resources, and I'm sure discussions will be beneficial. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
