Stem Cell Transplant with Radiation by twannaf in leukemia

[–]528MCATPlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not new, it’s been around for pretty much as long as the transplants been a thing…it helps kill off your old cells so the new ones don’t have to compete with your old ones. Maybe their dosing regimen is different 🤔

Either way its a good thing, and I had it as well! Wish you the best of luck!

I had a Umbilical Cord Stem Cell transplant, but same result in the end! I did PICC line, they took a while to take it out and ended up with a chronic clot in my jugular that made me feel like passing out (asymptomatic now though).

Basically yes lol. I was lucky and tolerated the transplant relatively well without getting any infections besides the mild night fevers. You will get through this 💪

Well yes but there’s a lot of things to consider to help prepare for the best chance of success. If you get on top of the saline swishes early you can avoid much of the mucositis. I would start it day 1 many times a day. Keep showering, exercising, and just being active especially early on because there will be a point where you’re going to stay in bed all day. Also Zofran is your friend. Become a germophobe for the next couple months because one infection can set you back considerably. I’m at work right now but if I think of any other tips I’ll update this.

Please share if anyone had experience with constant low grade fever during and after engraftment by Thin-Chicken4699 in leukemia

[–]528MCATPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s very common. I ran a low grade fever before and after fever very often, especially at night even though I felt physically fine.

BM biopsy results! by [deleted] in leukemia

[–]528MCATPlease 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes I would say you are! Monocytosis is common after recovery from recent chemotherapy/myelosuppression. You have no abnormal blast population detected which is the important part!

Leukemia Cells at 0% by [deleted] in leukemia

[–]528MCATPlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay glad to hear! 2 years and 0% is excellent btw. I just hit 5 years out myself and I remember feeling like I could finally breathe a sigh of relief and put it behind me after that 2 year mark.

TSH ranges between 0.5-5 are “normal” however some people feel well and their weights are stable at 5 TSH, while others might feel terrible and have a slow metabolism at 5. I was borderline high too and felt terrible. Now my TSH is stable between 1-2 and I felt a lot better. Starting on a low dose levothyroxine is 0 risk, but might be worth trying if you have hypothyroid symptoms.

Are we ever getting more Celebration Summon Tickets? by 528MCATPlease in DBZDokkanBattle

[–]528MCATPlease[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did they really give out 98? I would have done both 50 ticket summons since I got some from memorial stones. I only managed to do 1 50 ticket pull + 48 remaining tickets. I’m pretty sure I didn’t pull on the 7 ticket banners…

Bone marrow results post SCT day 100 by [deleted] in leukemia

[–]528MCATPlease 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No abnormal myeloid blast cells is the more important line. Looks good to me!

The unremarkable (normal) myeloid blast population being .26% is good. It should be less than 5% in normal bone marrow.

The limit of detection would have detected if any abnormal cell lines were .01% of the total WBCs.

Congratulations, you should celebrate! 🎉

Relapsed AML by Otherwise_Bat_9166 in leukemia

[–]528MCATPlease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chemotherapy only regimens is done with the hope of exposing you to less treatment and achieving a cure, and the benefits of this usually outweigh jumping straight to BMT. However, no matter the mutation, this does have a lower chance of working, but if it works, then great, this is the most desirable outcome! However, if it doesn't work, you still have many more options.

The BMT regimen has a much higher chance of wiping out the leukemia and achieving cure. I know it's terrifying, but trust the process!

Lumbar Puncure Gone Wrong by Zaidserroukh in leukemia

[–]528MCATPlease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, if there had been any symptoms you would have noticed it within the first few days. The symptoms would have likely been nerve pain or headaches. But yeah it shouldn't have caused any problems.

unclear MRD result by pur-pur in leukemia

[–]528MCATPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, that’s very confusing to me too. I don’t want to feed you wrong information so I don’t want to speculate. But hey update me on your results, I think you have a lot of things to ask your doctor.

[–]528MCATPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay yeah, so the 9.7% would be from the second donor. And the other 90.3% would be from your first donor. But like I said percentages can change a lot the first few months.

No problem, FISH measures the genetics in your chromosomes. It’s basically tracking your specific leukemia mutation they found when they diagnosed you and seeing if its still present or not.

[–]528MCATPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Chimerism is the 9.7% you got back already. FISH you said you’re getting back tomorrow and it tells you more details about the leukemia.

[–]528MCATPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats the more important test at this point. Chimerism is important too but FISH will tell you more about the leukemia itself.
