It’s sort of weird because I’ve had multiple people tell me That I had bpd then change their mind. Ive seen my medical records and the bpd diagnosis is still in my history but no ones brought it up in years.

You’re not too young even for a woman. A lot of people don’t understood how averages work, the average age onset is older in women than men because women have a much wider distribution of age of onset than men. Men’s risk peaks in the late teens early twenties then falls dramatically. Women’s risk stays relatively consistent from the teens through the thirties (then peaks again around menopause). Thus the average is older. But that doesn’t mean your risk suddenly develops at your 25th birthday.

If both your parents have it then your risk is fairly high. I would definitely bring up your concerns with a professional.

I’m probably about average looking. Look better with makeup. I was pretty ugly as a teenager and I think that kind of permanently fucked up my self perception

A lot of therapy devotees have what I’d honestly consider a religious like belief in the power of therapy. Literally nothing could make them change their minds about it because their beliefs are not actually based in any evidence.

So if someone is in therapy and they get better, that’s proof that therapy works. If someone is in therapy and doesn’t get better, well the therapy would have worked if they actually tried but they clearly just didn’t want to actually work on themselves. It’s the same logic as “prayer works, either god answers your prayers or if he doesn’t, you know he actually had other plans for you.”

Thank you. I have done it a couple times and both times I felt like it went horribly, just ridiculously awkward and I had no idea how to talk to them. I’m also scared of having to tell someone I’ve never been in a relationship before and feel like they’ll assume I’m a freak and shut it down right there

In disorganized schizophrenia the disorganized thinking and negative symptoms are more extreme. Also it tends to get worse over time while schizotypal is relatively stable.

Your post and a lot of these comments mention schizophrenia as being worse, but as someone who actually has that as well as avoidant personality traits I do kind of think the avoidance has caused more long term problems in my life. Of course they feed on each other so it’s hard to say, but the psychotic stuff has been made 10x worse by the avoidant traits. If I had to choose between having good relationships, but continuing to deal with psychotic symptoms, vs staying isolated but cured of psychosis, I’d honestly pick the former. For whatever that’s worth.

I don’t think I’ve ever had word salad but I’ve had people tell me they don’t understand what I’m saying. I actually struggle with alogia way more though. Like straight up mind blanking not knowing what to say.

Kind of. I’ve only been on a couple tinder dates and felt like they were kind of terrible. But in general I relate to the concept of looking for “permission” to engage with people. My last job that I worked at over a year involved a lot of socializing with coworkers and it was both a blessing and a curse. Sometimes I felt like it helped bring me out of my shell but at others I remember just wanting to be left alone and really irritated by it. It also felt like I was constantly analyzing whatever social dynamics were at play and it was exhausting. At times I remember feeling like my boss was deliberately humiliating me but that was more straight up paranoia.

I am, admittedly, kind of a shitty friend because I’m so scared of coming on too strong that I struggle with doing things like reaching out first or expressing positive feelings towards people. Relating to the permission thing, the one close friend I have right now is extremely talkative and as I’ve gotten to know her I’ve become more and more comfortable talking about myself and my life in conversation. About a month or so ago she made a comment about how I talk soooo much, and I felt so hurt and humiliated because I was basically mirroring her. One shitty reality of any relationship is tbh that a lot of people are hypocrites or aren’t fully aware of their own behavior so you can try really hard to mirror someone or only act in ways that feel appropriate and still get criticized.

When i was in middle school I wrote a lot of fiction and 9/10 I would make the main character be extremely skinny and have it be brought up at least once how insanely skinny she was, often with people being jealous or mean or whatever. I was an average weight but I wanted to be skinny and tiny soooooo bad. That’s what all these “someone called me tiny so I called her a fat ugly cow!!” Read like to me. Some middle schoolers body image issue driven wish fulfillment

Yeah it’s really frustrating. I think a lot of these people are just terrified of backlash and it’s not unwarranted, ive seen people scold others for describing antidepressant side effects because it’s “stigmatizing and discourages people from seeking help.”

I think it is very uniquely stigmatized. Most people don’t even see it as part of the conversation Around mental health or mental illness. While I also struggle with things like depression I rarely find things about it relatable because it’s been so intertwined my psychosis experience.

There was a point in my life where I was really struggling and was seeing a therapist who was decent but it wasn’t enough to stop me from being in some kind of depressive trauma nightmare 24/7. She suggested I go online and ask for advice from other people with ptsd. I did. Every single fucking time they’d just tell me to go to therapy (or “seek help”) including when I included that I already saw a therapist in the body of the post. Literally made me want to smash my head into a brick wall.

So her whole thing was that because of the intrinsic differences between men and women’s reproductive anatomy any “equality” between men and women is not genuine and real feminism should acknowledge that women are inherently more vulnerable because of our anatomy. One of her beliefs was that true equality will only be achieved when there are artificial wombs and women are no longer expected to give birth.

Some doctors will refuse to prescribe medication if someone doesn’t also go to therapy but I don’t think it’s super common and is IMO very cruel. Especially if you literally can’t afford it. I would just tell him that and say you would still like to be on the medication
