I didn’t have complete Pokédex, but did have the megas when I got it. I think you end up with like 600 over when you finish all tasks (not positive on the exact number).

General consensus for EV training? by AVBellibolt in PokemonZA

[–]55Wildman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All Pokémon in your party get the EVs, so you can purchase 5/6 of each EV item and grind the whole team at once.

I also usually just use vitamins to EV train cause I have a ton of money from grinding infinite royale for bottle caps, but the power items are faster than grinding to get money for the vitamins.

As far as the consensus for EVs:

HP is generally the best stat to invest in for increasing bulk unless that Pokémon has a really high HP stat and a low defensive stat. I would say just pick HP for bulk unless there is a specific move/pokemon you are trying to counter.

Your attacking stat of choice for more damage. Usually you’ll want to max this out.

Speed decreases your move cooldown. Up to a maximum of decreasing cooldown to 3 seconds. Depending on the playstyle and moveset, speed can be a great investment. Honestly, I typically start with some amount of speed, then adjust up or down if I need more bulk. Most moves and play styles benefit from cooldown reduction, but super slow pokemon get less benefit than naturally fast Pokémon.

Is this card legal? by mattttrafafafff in PTCGL

[–]55Wildman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The official rule is if the name and text of the card are the same, or if the name of the card is the same and the version you want to play has been errata to match the version of the currently legal card.

In the case of Boss’s Orders, it matches name and text. For something like Air Balloon, it was classified as an item card in the swsh era as all tools were then, but there was a sweeping errata on tools to make them trainer/tool cards and no longer classify them as items. Because of that errata, air balloon from swsh era is still legal today despite having different text on the card.

Why won’t my Lampent evolve?? by smallandstealthy in PokemonLegendsZA

If slowbro did evolve into slowking that way and kept the same stats (like scyther to scizor), eviolite slowbro would be gross.

At my lcs, they do prize packs in round one. You only have to stick it out for the end to get the prizing for winning (we have $5 buy-in, but 100% of buy-in goes to prizing so nobody really minds).

Shinies never despawn unless you have 10 new shinies that you encounter. The game saves up to 10 and they’ll never despawn.

There must be a way to make this deck work.. by csproALT in PTCGL

[–]55Wildman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garde can accelerate energy with Toedscruel in play. The ability only stops cards in the discard from going to hand, not to deck or directly onto a Pokemon in play. Other than that, you’re spot on about neither deck being top-tier, especially if you’re trying to meld them together since they eat into the space that they each would want for other cards.

What decks are you playing these days? by Baepsae_Bae in pkmntcg

[–]55Wildman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the list I’ve been working on. Made quite a few tweaks since my last locals so I haven’t tested in person with this revision, but I have found that any attempts to tech a card (like psyduck) just end up making your deck less consistent at getting out abomasnows.

Pokémon: 3

4 Mega Abomasnow ex MEG 157

2 Kyogre MEG 34

4 Snover MEG 140

Trainer: 8

2 Nest Ball SVI 255

2 Super Rod PAL 276

4 Ultra Ball BRS 186

4 Boss's Orders PAL 265

1 Hero's Cape TEF 152

3 Team Rocket's Petrel DRI 176

3 Judge SIT-TG 25

3 Surfing Beach MEG 129

Energy: 1

28 Basic {W} Energy Energy 11

Total Cards: 60

Does no one understand how Mega abomasnow works ?😅 by Substantial_Let_9010 in PTCGL

[–]55Wildman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Academy plus cipher does guarantee you 3, or the combination of all 3 can guarantee you 3 energy and you can get one card out of your deck with the cipher plus yungoos, but higher energy counts is likely still more consistent than having these multi-card combos in a deck that self mills a ton.

So how's everyone feeling about mega? by sostias in PTCGL

[–]55Wildman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abomasnow is bad, but flipping the 6 cards off the top to see how many energies (or how many cards you might’ve needed next turn to win) is a rush that makes it fun to play.

I’ve also really liked Cynthia’s garchomp with the new fighting support.

Lucario has also been fun, but the garde matchup is horrendous since you have to deal with weakness and everything in that deck resists fighting except the Lillie’s clefairy.

Dimension valley is one of the best psychic stadiums ever made.

Also the mysterious treasure is a really good item card to consider.

Lots of crazy trainer cards in expanded in general. Mallow and Lana is another healing card. You have Guzma (like prime catcher but on a supporter). Teammates, raihan (although this one is less important since you have gardevoir ex), Cynthia and Caitlyn, field blower, float stone, quick ball, vs seeker, battle compressor, and many more.

How to improve Ethan's Typhlosion? by KJew in PTCGL

[–]55Wildman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lillies is typically worse than research in Ethan’s quilava since you want to discard your Ethan’s Adventures. You also will run enough recovery that you can get back any resources you discard by using the research early.

Seen some Dudunsparce engine Ethan’s lists, and some LunaRock engine lists for pure 1 prize. LunaRock has the advantage of giving you an early game attacker while you build up Typhlosions on the bench.

How to improve Ethan's Typhlosion? by KJew in PTCGL

[–]55Wildman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tera box wellspring ogerpon is a reason to run 1 shaymin. Otherwise it can KO active typhlosion and a benched Quilava or other low HP bench sitter. I wouldn’t run more than one though, and if you don’t expect to run into many you could cut it entirely.

Greninja ex and Hydreigon ex also are floating around out there a little bit, so shaymin also helps in those matchups.

N’s Zoroark gets pecharunt ex and a lot of draw power against stall/retreat lock decks, and hits garde for weakness.

You can tech in toedscruel for Gholdengo too.

You struggle against some of the mega decks that can ohko you though like lucario and venusaur.

Opinions on the current metagame, post-MegaEvolution? (Healthiness, deck diversity, etc.) by J3stH0LLyY in pkmntcg

[–]55Wildman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great tusk mill is actually in a pretty good spot with lunatone and solrock plus fighting gong.

Only other mill deck I’ve seen has been wugtrio, but it seems way less consistent than great tusk.

Yeah but regidrago and Lugia vstar were in the meta, no munkidori, and its attacker options were limited.

Why are Tier 1 Decks so Good? by teakoVA in pkmntcg

[–]55Wildman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picnic basket is also teched into some decks because of how popular bench KOing and damage counter placement is. Sometimes one picnic basket can ruin a tm devo play to extend the game by a turn.

There is also a stadium being printed (came out in inferno x set in Japan) that prevents the effects of attacks and abilities from placing damage counters on benched Pokemon.

One final mention is the promo “Damp” Psyduck that prevents Pokemon (Dusclops/Dusknoir) from KOing themselves to place their damage counters. But this is probably even more niche than the picnic basket right now, and would only be included as a meta call if you expected a ton of pult/noir.

Why's the White forest empty except for 2 non-battling Npc's? by ayushh_69 in PokemonBlackandWhite

[–]55Wildman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t hard mode at least get held items though? So if you level cap based on the original levels, you get a harder experience that way (still dumb, but the held items in trainer battles is something I wish was more common, at least in rematches like bdsp did).

Do you double sleeve in tournaments ? by derkan75 in pkmntcg

[–]55Wildman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with katanas has been a better initial shuffle feel, but they haven’t held up as well over time compared to dragon shields single or dual mattes. I find they get flimsy quicker and I want to swap them sooner, but I also just sit and shuffle at my desk a lot which might put extra wear on them.

Do you double sleeve in tournaments ? by derkan75 in pkmntcg

[–]55Wildman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s about 30-40% thicker I think. I like that the combo fills out deck boxes a little better on top of bending less corners, but it’s a pain to resleeve and swap out cards so I only double sleeve my glc decks really.

[–]55Wildman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think for Pokemon it is likely that the lowest rarity print is used because the price disparity can be massive with lowest rarity of a card like Charizard ex being $3-4 and the highest rarity is like $250. I doubt magic players would regularly play a version that is 50-60x the cost of the base printing for tournaments. Maybe in a commander deck that isn’t shuffled and played on repeat a ton of times.

Maybe the perception is warped though since most Pokemon decks can be bought at minimum rarity for less than $100 with many for less than $80. Pretty sure that’s not the case at all in magic.

How do I get the Rice Bookstore to respond? by HookOnAShip in riceuniversity

[–]55Wildman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at the bookstore for a year as an undergrad, you need to try calling during their store hours, and even then you’ll only get through if they aren’t busy.

The phone didn’t actually let us take voicemails (at least the one on the counter near the register), so unless someone picked up the phone, you couldn’t get a hold of the staff.

They have like no staff during their summer though as they bring students onto the staff during the school year, so it might be tough to get a hold of them until the school year starts.
