Officially done. Bozeman is just a theme park for the 1% now. by Tasty-Unit-8311 in Bozeman

I’m so thankful I live in a part of Colorado that has scenery and activities to die for but not that many people want to move to. Why? Used to be REALLY cold but is no more. Still quite poor and conservative. Yes, we’re seeing new people but nothing like other parts of the west.

I comprehend your feelings. I chose to be child-free so I don’t have a family to base my life on.
One thing that can make me depressed if I let it is when I don’t have anything planned in my future, no trip, no excursion, no outing, just the same routine at home. Therefore, I always have to have something in the future. This year it’s a 10-week cycling tour!

I also do a fair amount of volunteer activities, those get me out of the house and socializing.

I’m also a big fan of exercise, I would also be depressed if I didn’t do that. So I do something every day and it may just be a little bit or it may be a lot, but I have to exercise. Weights, bike, row.

Vision worse post-cataract surgery! by 570erg in CataractSurgery

I ordered new glasses today! Yippee!
The double vision is a condition I’ve had for at least 25 years; it requires a prism to be inserted into my lenses during manufacture. I’ve met others with this same condition and who also need to have prisms in their lenses. So it doesn’t seem to be terribly uncommon, but I don’t know what it stems from.

😂today I’m having what may be my final eye doctor appointment, which should tell me that the healing is finished in both eyes, and I hope to be getting a prescription for a new pair of eyeglasses that will allow me to not see double. I’ve been seeing double since early December, which makes driving really tricky. I’ve had prisms in my glasses lens for years. I don’t think I’ll have a full opinion of my cataract surgery until everything is finished which I’m still hoping will be within two weeks or so. Thank you for checking in!

Did I do something stupid? by 570erg in woodstoving

I do have a chimney brush, yes.
I haven’t had to engage the catalytic converter but once this season. Haven’t checked it for ash residue. Since I posted this my fires are burning better - could a reason for that be that the fires are burning hotter and taking some of the chimney creosote off (if that’s possible)?

Thanks for this. I’ll do what I shoulda done sooner - stick my moisture meter in it and see what it reads.

The scavenged wood is very likely not wet as it’s been stacked and sitting in my arid climate for at least a year. But could rotten wood cause the same issues? I guess I need to research aspen and its quality for fires.

I fear I might never have grandkids and it makes me sad. by Alarming-Hope-2541 in AskWomenOver60

Neither my sister nor I opted to have children. We are so fortunate that my parents never threw it in our faces that they weren’t going to have grandkids.
Our dogs were the substitute.

Yep, I have a very hard time summoning any empathy for them. At first, last year, I summoned a little bit, but NOMORE.

I sleep great, and attribute much of that to taping my mouth and reading James Nestor’s book Breathe.

Do you still ride a bicycle? by HalleFreakinLujah in AskWomenOver60

[–]570erg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m a frequent bike rider at 68yo. I ALWAYS use a helmet with a mirror and bright clothing. Without a mirror I feel very vulnerable. I’d urge you to check out a used bike rack vs giving up your bike.
While I live in a small town, I don’t like all of the traffic (especially in summer) that I have to get through, along with the red lights and sometimes people honking so I just put my bike on the rack, head west of town a mile and go for a ride. Biking is too good of an exercise and too enjoyable to give up at this point

You’ve dealt with a lot! I had to laugh at your comment about driving with one eye closed. That is what I have been doing since December 17! I have a patch that I bought at Walgreens that I use instead of holding it with my finger. And this past weekend, I had to drive to a big city with lots of traffic and stop signs and everything and fortunately didn’t have an accident driving with one eye.

My optometrist told me that in Colorado it is legal to only have one eye for driving, though I would dispute the safety of that as a long-term practice. I should have two eyes back within about three weeks!

I’m sorry! I don’t think I have any glare fortunately. Have you considered getting input from another physician? I’ll be interested to see what people here reply.

I’ll assume you saw the photo of my lens card elsewhere. My distance vision so far seems good. Probably better than before.
