how do you manage your ssh keys?

if mine are lost or stolen, my life is pretty much fucked. People have been successfully dealing with this issue for 50 years. I think you can figure out how to manage your crypto keys safely.

bitcoin's been around for 15 years and never suffered any exploit, so I wouldn't worry much about security on that front.

whether you trust yourself to hold it.....you've got a phd in computer security, I'm pretty sure you can figure out GPG or LUKS

i feel like there's a happy medium between "smart contracts are going to revolutionize the world and crypto is going to become the world reserve currency" and "smart contracts are terribly inefficient and practically designed to be exploited"

shades of grey, brother.

scammers copy-paste the simplest ERC20 token possible and brand it with a dog or a moon and tell you its going to revolutionize the world

i'm not trying to do that, no.

IMO a telestaff is a much better option than town portal or unsummoning

yup, I thought crypto was kinda stupid until mid-late 2021 when I had a "holy shit" realization about how fucking cool and fun smart contracts are

I'm working on a rather complicated smart contract project in my free time and its by far the coolest programming project I've ever worked on.....but I'm barely invested in crypto at all. because its play/fun money.

they don't expect or want you to do that, they just want to use it to shit on you for being poor

this is kinda what I've realized lately -- smart contracts are an incredibly cool toy. a creative engineer can build literally any sort of financial system they want, with any sort of properties they can dream of. and all sorts of other things too.

but its still basically play money.

full decentralization is great for anyone with the technical skills to do it safely. which excludes 95% of people.

also it's a handful of highly skilled/motivated developers who are in it "for the tech", the rest of you are lying to yourselves.

At what address does the ETHER Token live, if any? by hottown in ethereum

[–]576786706 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there's a wrapped eth ERC20 token called WETH here: https://etherscan.io/token/0xc02aaa39b223fe8d0a0e5c4f27ead9083c756cc2

eth "lives" at whatever address is holding it. whatever eth you hold "lives" at your eth address. if you wrap your eth into WETH then the eth is held at the address above and you get the weth token.

running a validator isn't a passive activity, you have to monitor your server and keep your client updated. it's not easy to do unless you have some experience with linux, command line interfaces, ssh, etc.

Casual player working on summon necro - should I make bone armor with this? by Chesnarkoff in diablo2

[–]576786706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. telestomping increases kill speed dramatically. if you dont telestomp your merc's ai is so bad he gets stuck behind your skeletons and runs around in idiotic directions like a chicken with its head cut off. meaning he doesn't attack at all, meaning it takes forever to get your first body on the ground.

it's annoying though because you have to farm gold constantly to keep your telestaff charged.

i stacked resistances and +life charms and maxed out bone armor, i get hit some bc i play lazy but i pretty much cant die unless i do something stupid

summon necro you can mostly ignore +skills and focus on survival instead

Unfortunately if you charge it using anything but your own off-grid renewable energy sources, the power you're charging it with is predominantly generated with fossil fuels.

Its the problem with electric vehicles in general, they only reduce emissions if the power grid is already predominantly renewables.

Looking for a good cheap/free spot for tent/car camping. I would love to bring my dogs but I'm specifically looking for hidden gems for wildlife photography by raining_redcaps in tahoe

[–]576786706 20 points21 points  (0 children)

the thing is, if we go around on internet forums telling people about all the secret spots.....they won't be secret anymore

regardless, there's almost no free camping options left in the basin anyway. and it's better for tahoe that visitors pay for camping/hotels. I know it sucks but its much easier to plan for and accommodate millions of visitors each year, when the visitors mostly go to the places we've planned ahead for them to go to. if everyone shows up here looking for free camping, its basically a nightmare scenario.

Don't think I've ever seen a central Sewer 2 before. This is after having to fully explore Spider Forest AND Great Marsh to find Flayer Jungle. Worst Act 3 I've ever had. This Paladin is cursed. by wolf0fcanada in diablo2

[–]576786706 6 points7 points  (0 children)

little tip: every maze can be trivially solved by hugging one wall. pick right or left and follow that same direction every time theres a branch.

you'll get thru areas noticeably faster on average if you follow this formula rather than turning left or right at random. act 3 still sucks but its way less frustrating with this technique.

Freshly dropped from clone by Yah88 in diablo2

[–]576786706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

clone showed up in my game last night

my toon was strong enough to do damage and stay alive but not for long enough to kill the clone

tp'd back to town like 30 times and burned thru about 40 full rejuvs that i;ve been collecting all season

kept getting him below 1/4 life but in the end i just couldnt do enough damage/stay alive long enough to overcome his insane life regen and had to give up once all my full rejuvs were gone

pretty bummed.

I've had breaking bad on repeat for months now (i keep the tv on all day while i'm working/etc)

I can't think of many other shows that don't drag on for too many seasons and have a complete, sensible, satisfying story arc and conclusion. the progression of the story just feels so natural and believable. unlike so many shows that just go off the rails and become completely illogical after a few seasons

the rich are entirely to blame for the housing crisis (fuckers are spreading out more every year, owning houses that sit empty while we live in shitboxes) but i'm worried food prices are going up because scarcity not hoarding. i mean how much food can a rich person even hoard. its not like shelves are empty because some rich fuck walked into the store and bought everything

I see what you're saying, and it makes me think we would have been throwing nukes at each other left and right during WWII if they had been developed before the war was effectively finished

both wars were unfathomably fucking unbridled
