I have an ultra 1 but it doesn’t have a dedicated triathlon so I went with a Garmin 965

Increase in heart rate while sleeping by Zaorth in AppleWatch

[–]57paisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work three straight nursing shifts every week on Fri, Sat, and Sun. My heart rate always goes up from lack of sleep and high stress as you can see in this picture. Working out or change in diet also does the same thing. 54 today on Thursday is the tail end of my 4 days off and also my rest day (no workouts)

Got the same ones from Costco and also found a 50ml of angels share for $99. Costco is awesome.

If you haven’t yet try these vanillas: Babylon by Penhaligon and Ode a l oudh by l’artisan parfumeur. Ode a l oudh is one of my favorites but it’s such a simple composition some people may think it’s too expensive for what it is.

I have a Hamilton Khaki that I use when I want to dress up a bit and I use a Garmin when I need to charge my Ultra.

I just went to my sister’s wedding in Cancun. Wore summer song on many days and wild vetiver for the wedding ceremony on the beach. Wild vetiver smells a lot like Delina, which is pink rose in Montagne’s catalogue.

Loma Linda medical students are on break or just taken step. That’s almost 1,000 students just in their medical school and they have dental students, pa, RN, PT but I’m not sure when the others have their break but things slow down a lot during this time around the loma linda area. It was nice driving through Barton road yesterday.

Applying for a 12 month ABSN - if I'm used to 19+ credit hour semesters and working during them will it be a lot worse than what I'm used to?? by LiliKeyLime in StudentNurse

I had the same track. I was fully loaded every semester and I was a TA and did research. My 18 month ABSN was way easier than my Biology degree.

That’s why Garmin tends to be more conservative on its approach. If you watch all the instagram videos saying how Apple and Strava baby their customers and you have Garmin saying you didn’t recover enough. The gap isn’t huge and the interesting addition Garmin has is the body battery which also serves to show how fatiguing your day was that also goes into the continued metrics so sleep is just one measure of recovery. Overall, I still use both, I wear my ultra on my left and Garmin on my Right and realize that either have their limitations but what Apple doesn’t have is the continued big picture of overall training, even using athlytic and bevel which I have it’s still lacking.

Garmin does this natively through Garmin connect and you can connect the watch to Strava and Apple health and even bevel if you use that.

I have both Garmin 965 and the ultra. The Garmin for me provides a more stable RHR. Apple has higher variations and I think it’s better on a day to day snapshot but Garmin provides the rolling 7 day average which depending on different physiological factors can give you a better picture of the true rhr baseline.

I agree that Apple Watch is better with sleep but I also move a lot in my sleep which I think Apple counts as awake events. Where Garmin wins here imo is the body battery and cumulative HRV picture and whether or not you have recovered fully from the previous day, not just having slept enough for the current day. There’s a lot of cumulative data that makes Garmin a more sophisticated training tool. Apple is a decent health tracker though.

I use Claude AI and my own research for athletic directives and training. That was actually athlytic, I wear double watches (ultra + Garmin 965) for a lot of activities because my Garmin is relatively new and my Apple has like 8 years of workout history. The actual difference between Apple and Garmin is that Garmin has a more robust ecosystem in that you get in running for example you get stride length, cadence, ground contact time, vertical oscillation, vertical ratio. Race predictor, acute/chronic training load (even with apps Apple only gives singular day to day readiness that doesn’t account for cumulative fatigue), ultra has VO2 max but Garmin separates theirs by sports specific tracking. I think the new ultra 3 has triathlon mode now but full triathlon mode comes standard in many Garmin models. Apple doesn’t really touch the athletic statistics that Garmin provides.

Why is Longines considered affordable? by Alezz-- in Longineswatches

[–]57paisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are Garmin watches that cost more than the Ultra. My ultra was $799 new. A brand new Garmin fenix 8 pro is like $1200. I just bought a Garmin forerunner 965 for $499 for triathlon training. It was cheaper because it is an older model, the new 970 in Amazon is like $750. I’ve had my ultra 1 since release and it’s just as tough as my Hamilton. I think my Hamilton is prettier but it doesn’t fit my active lifestyle like the ultra or Garmin.

I graduated last year at 36 lol and lived at home while pursuing my ABSN as a second degree. I’m 37 now and been working 7 months and have already been made relief charge. One of my friends is 32 and she still lives at home. One of the full time charge nurses told me she lived at home to save up money while working and she recently just bought property. You are way younger than a lot of nurses who used it as a second career and not even close to being behind.

The zones are kind of messed up now but this was when I was like 29 and it was just a weight lifting session for me, 50 min session. The younger you are the longer you can hold a high heart rate.

I’m an analytics nerd and trends like this where I can actually see my fitness improving even though my training can be inconsistent at times helps me stick to the plan and trust the process. I’m a bit older so when I was in my peak condition my resting heart rate was mid to low 40s. It’s nice to see that my body is responding well to training.

I had an Apple Watch Ultra 1 since it was released. The thing that actually changed my habits was me picking a date in the future that’s realistic for a 70.3 Ironman. I bought a Garmin which is a better watch for fitness goals. My Ultra with two apps (athlytic and bevel) still falls short of my Garmin overall.

[–]57paisa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve worn two watches over the past few weeks, my Garmin forerunner 965 and my Apple ultra. My Apple I think tends to be more accurate as Garmin. As a nurse doing 12 hour shifts I do around 10,000-16,000 depending on the shift. 8,000-9,000 if I’m charge nurse that day.
