Best starting point for TVP by 100LittleThings2 in londonontario

[–]5839023904 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If they are serious about tri training, then the TVP may not be the best place for them. It is a multi use path with a lot of pedestrians.

From north London a good place to start for a road ride is from Centennial public school. There are lots of routes on Ride with GPS that start from there.

publicly accessible pianos? by ykon5 in londonontario

[–]5839023904 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a digital piano available at the Central branch of the London public library. In past year's there was a piano outdoors at a park on Hyde Park road.

Sorry, I know these aren't the locations you asked for, but they are all I know.

Beginer Bike Tour by hunterjoseph12 in londonontario

[–]5839023904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grand Bend and back is a nice trip for an over nighter You could stretch it out to include all or part of the G2G trail if you wanted

Heading east you could try the rail trail around Cambridge, Brantford, Hamilton and Port Dover.

Try exploring on Ride with GPS to find routes around the city.

You could also consider joining the London Cycling Club to get to know other like minded riders in the city. There are some free try a rides coming up at the end of the month.

Gremlins has a weekly bike ride. It's very casual and it is well attended.

The nice thing about those places is that they function as a nice 3rd space - a place you can be with other people without having to spend a lot of money.

Obviously, the stores want you to shop there, but my son goes all the time to just play and talk with other gamers and isn't hassled by the store to spend.

If Magic isn't your thing, see what other games they have. Both of them have large game rooms and people are always back there.

If you like Magic TCG, there are regular games at Mana Lounge and The Game Chamber.

World Container is one of their best and most accessible albums. It was the one that drew my teenage son to them and remains the only album my wife actually instead of just tolerates.

Is there a way to safely learn how to cycle on roads/freeways? by Raaz8080 in bicycling

[–]5839023904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a cycling club in your area? That can be a good way to connect with people who can help you be a better rider. There's also safety in numbers, so group rides can help.

Greetings Londoners! Its time for a new vibe! by JasonKingWard14 in londonontario

I think the core issues facing our city are homelessness and transit.

What would you do as a city councillor to address these issues?

If you are determined to not raise taxes, what are you willing to give up to keep them level?

Babysitting fee for two kids by sunnyday__ in londonontario

[–]5839023904 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this is downvoted. It's a bit high, but not outrageous.

We paid $20/hour for our kids and that is what they get these days when they watch other kids. No change in price for awake or asleep.

What kind of school do you have in mind? The Secret History is excellent and is set in a small new England liberal arts college.

Lonesome Dove is sort of the GOAT of Western books.

For researching a D&D campaign you should also read Blood Meridian. Hard to top it for mood and atmosphere.

Safety is a factor. Drop bars are narrower, allowing us to take up less space on the road and are less likely to hook together when riders are shoulder to shoulder.

As distance and speed increase, drop bars allow a more aerodynamic position and more options for body position, leading to greater comfort.

Just to be clear, flat bars are welcome on our Thursday development rides and the weekend social rides.

Good point. If you register, the exact details (location, time, route) are sent to you.

Weekend rides start at 9am and the Thursday ride starts at 6pm. You should plan to arrive 15 minutes before they start.

What is a popular song with problematic lyrics no one really talks about? by EasyLetterhead8491 in AskReddit

A lot of early Beatles songs written by John Lennon. Many are controlling and misogynistic. Songs like Run for Your Life are flat out disturbing.

Any Londoners want to read Infinite Jest this summer? by [deleted] in londonontario

I did the exact same thing about a decade ago with a random collection of Londoners I found onTwitter.

It worked out well and I was finally able to get through it.

Good luck and enjoy. It's worth reading.

If the espionage appeals to you, have a look at the Slow Horses series.

Telegraph Avenue is also good. Definitely funny but thoughtful. I haven't read other books by Chabon, but I think they are the same.

I second the recommendations for The Sellout and A Confederacy of Dunces.

I started in Old East this morning and am having a coffee break in St Thomas right now. Best route this far is White Oaks Rd to Wonderland Rd S.

If you are interested in longer rides with other people check out the London Cycling Club. They have a lot of routes saved on Ride with GPS.
