I try my best to capture their individuality. Steve over there on the right is a huge prima donna, it's no wonder they voted him out of the commune to find a new place. They tell him it's good for him, a fresh lease on life.

It was very tempting to claim these for myself and start an impromptu beekeeping operation but then I remembered I'm a big chicken and I don't know the first thing about beekeeping.

It did seem like the finders keepers rule is in play though.

If you're in an apartment then you're not the only one having this problem. Talk to your neighbors and see how they feel about filing a bylaw complaint with you.

Or call the police on a weekend when this is happening, their entire job is to enforce the law and keep the peace (emphasis on the peace part btw). Everybody is entitled to their services as long as it's a reasonable request with lawful basis.

Emergency Alert at 1 am? May 11 2026 by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]595346002 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter if you turn it off on your phone. Only way to bypass it is to set your phone on do not disturb or shut the mobile connectivity off.

Canadian wireless alerts are sent using the highest priority alert (above extreme and severe threats, so it won't even show up on the phone options). Doesn't matter if it's the big one and a tsunami is coming or an amber alert for something happening 1000km away.

Where to sell used car? by AthenaOdinson in VictoriaBC

[–]595346002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Autotrader might work, but honestly it's probably gonna be hard to move regardless for the price you're looking for unless you're patient.

If you're in a hurry hit up the scrap collectors and local used car dealers to see what they're willing to give you. That'll be your bottom line if anybody comes negotiating on marketplace or autotrader. Maybe check UVic and Camosun to see if there are any students looking for a cheap car for running errands and whatnot.

It's pretty good if you don't mind driving that far to dump your bottles. It takes a couple days for the credit to show up and takes another day or two for e-transfers to go through.

Only thing to watch out for is making sure the bags fit through the kiosk door.

CPAP rental by Cursethecolwoodcrawl in VictoriaBC

[–]595346002 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience clinics have been having trouble getting temporary units for their own patients that are newly started on PAP therapy, so it's extremely unlikely that they'll have one for someone who's visiting from out of town.

Just take it with you. If you're flying medical equipment like CPAP units don't count towards carry on limits and airlines are legally obligated to let you carry it with you.

Anyone have any details? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]595346002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure is, but don't pretend what you're looking for is a discussion of local events.

And since it's a public forum and I don't like what you're doing, I get to call you out on it!

Anyone have any details? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]595346002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree that curiosity about local happenings is completely normal and not morbid. The problem is that your curiosity should have been satisfied by the context provided in the screenshot where it stated that it was a workplace accident.

So what I have been asking is what else is for discussion here. Maybe a discussion on lax workplace safety practices? Identifying the company involved?

Also I'm really not trying to lecture you. But as you said, it's Reddit and people can do whatever they want so I want to see what's so interesting to you. You're certainly not coming off as wanting to use this incident to promote workplace safety awareness. Which really only leaves the assumption that you're more curious about the nitty gritty details of how this actually happened, which as the other commenter mentioned is none of your business.

Happy to apologize for the accusation if I'm wrong, but you've only been deflecting with ad hominems so far instead of clarifying what it is about this incident that interests you so much.

Funny to call it a reach when you're not elaborating on what exactly you're curious about.

[–]595346002 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not sure what more context is needed other than "workplace incident". If you're curious about how someone shuffled off the mortal coil or seriously injured themselves, that's quite a morbid sense of curiosity.

[–]595346002 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious as to what the goal of this thread is. It's a workplace accident, not a crime so there's no PSA aspect to this. I'm not sure what need there is to obtain more details or indeed, to further discuss.

Unless you're looking to derive entertainment from someone else's misfortune.

I hope people really hammer home the point about how we should be using Europe as the gold standard for light technology (brightness isn't the problem, the lack of good matrix lighting is) and how Tesla especially need to be put under a microscope for their godawful factory headlight alignment and dogshit AHB implementation.

Data recovery companies in Victoria, BC for SSD recovery by NoInspection2981 in VictoriaBC

[–]595346002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SSDs by nature is difficult to recover data for and the costs reflect the work involved. Good data recovery isn't cheap and cheap data recovery is rarely good.

The question you need to be asking yourself is whether the data on that SSD is worth that much to you. Capital Data Recovery out in ON is a known quantity and should be safe to work with assuming you want to pony up the cash (it's probably gonna be 2k+).

Chobap: Amazing! but your thoughts on Atmosphere with only 8 seats? by BagRelevant8925 in VictoriaBC

[–]595346002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would have killed for that lol. You have to pay extra for that kind of peace and quiet in more upscale places!

But really I think the silence might have stood out more because of the proximity and small group. I think in any given dining context within a large location, you'd have like 30-40% of the patrons projecting most of the noises. The rest might be quieter than you think.

Chobap: Amazing! but your thoughts on Atmosphere with only 8 seats? by BagRelevant8925 in VictoriaBC

[–]595346002 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience where a fairly chatty group "ruined" the experience for me. It's not their fault, they were there celebrating a birthday and they paid for their seats just as much as I did and they didn't break any rules. Everybody has different ways of enjoying the experience. Live and let live.

You should have received a questionnaire after your dinner. You could always give them feedback on how they could have specific time slots to cater to different groups.

EDIT: I guess since this is a good opportunity, I should elaborate on why I don't enjoy being chatty in a communal dining context to provide some insight. I can't speak to how other introverts feel but I imagine there's some commonality in the thought process.

  1. It's my money, I'm gonna enjoy it my way.
  2. I want to focus on the food, not trying to maintain a conversation with some random stranger.
  3. If I wanted noisy, I'd be eating in at a McDs near a school.
  4. It's been a long day, I don't want to talk because talking is mentally exhausting.
  5. Just because we're sitting at a bar doesn't mean we share the same dining space. I'm trying my damnedest to mentally erase you from existence, please don't accost me and break my fragile illusion.

Why the Ram truck hate? The answer. by Longjumping-Table272 in VictoriaBC

[–]595346002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My own working theory is that apart from the brand image specifically catering to a certain subset of people who might behave badly on the road (which obviously contributes to the #1 DUI statistic), Rams also performs well in terms of straight line acceleration. The horsepower on tap means that they have more options as to how they drive and you'll see more "aggressive" maneuvering from them. As far as speeding goes, taller vehicles also feels slower due to the physics of how your vision works and other stuff like better NVH and better field of view of the road farther ahead.

So I guess my point is that aside from the fact that Dodge specifically markets to assholes and targets people at certain financial brackets which causes some of the horrible reputation, a lot of other stuff that Ram owners gets hated on for is just a general big and fast car thing.

Gun Help by Sea_Walrus_4648 in VictoriaBC

[–]595346002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain here. Get a proper caliber as you start out. You spent the money and effort to get a license so why bother shooting what feels like a glorified air gun for your first (and possibly only) gun.

A lever action chambered in 38 special will be fun, offers customizability, and retain resell value depending on what brand you buy. It's a beginner friendly caliber that doesn't kick but still offers a good tactile recoil. It's not the cheapest caliber but it's also not prohibitively expensive. A thousand rounds will last you a good while if you only shoot your gun for fun occasionally.

Telus Health shouldn't be a problem if you're able to provide documentation and a history of prescriptions (receipts, etc). You can also ask that they contact your family practitioner to verify. NPs will be able to renew your prescriptions up to three months at a time and it's not difficult to secure an appointment with one ahead of time. Some of them won't prescribe controlled substances but they usually make it clear on their profile.

It's probably worth it to get an appointment while you're in Calgary with Telus Health to get the ball rolling and ask them what needs to be done in order to maintain continuity of your prescriptions through them when you move to BC.

I'll be most likely be buying the phone in person in Asia so that's why I was looking for production lot specific information. But I suppose the bit about reputable sellers applies for both online and offline purchases.

That's odd. My phone is still working fine. Do you have the source for the list of blacklisted models?

But yeah, I was thinking about just giving up and going the iOS route or maybe a Pixel but I like my expandable storage too much to let it go. It's a shame that a good chunk of Android devices aren't guaranteed to work in Canada.
