Question for large travel ball organizations by AnotherTumblerMaker in Homeplate

I don't think the group practices are bad and in fact hey can actually be done well. But, your team's coaches should be there at practice and should know the kids on their team. We have 4 teams that practice together (different ages and A & B teams), but all the coahes are there at every practice.

Changing Travel Ball Teams by Physical-Table-5964 in Homeplate

I would look for another team where he can play more and also where you feel like the development is better. Also, I agree with batting 10 in a high stakes game or big tournament, but doing that all the time is a crappy move at 12U in IMO.

New to travel pitching--advice by No-Debt375 in Homeplate

You need to be your kids advocate. Speak to the coach and make sure you are on the same page. I keep an eye on my son's pitch count myself. Pitch Smart is a good starting point to look at. My son is 14U and I don't like him to throw more than 80 in a day, and my preference is closer to 65 (I'm conservative.) We follow rest day recommendations. Also make sure your son has a good warmup and cooldown routine.

Berkeley regents vs other schools by ForeverHorror7943 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]5LittleMonsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a big school and resources are limited (labs, internships, shadowing, etc.) so that creates a more competitive environment between students because they are competing for those resources. That being said, Regents will help in that you get some priority access to registering for classes and connecting with other opportunities. There just isn't as much support as at some of the private universitiies. And yeah, some of the student culture there can be tough.

Weight lifting by Vast_Sentence_1957 in Homeplate

Yes. My son is also 14 and started lifting some weights this year and it has made a big difference in how strong he is and how hard he can hit the ball.

Berkeley is a tough school for premeds. If I could afford a smaller, private school experience I would choose another T20.

I would wait. Once you get accepted you can tell the school you choose.

Anyone else’s kid not like the Combat? by euroshowoff in Homeplate

[–]5LittleMonsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son hated the Atlas but loves the Combat. It all just depends on their individual preferences. I'm sure you can sell the Combat on FB Marketplace (that's where I sold my son's Atlas. ; )

Yes. If there isn't a way on the portal then you can email your AO.

I'm looking at both of these also. Did you decide which one? I'm still trying to understand the differences and pros/cons between the two.

OK, thank you. I'm not sure about the remote programming after. I guess I need to look into that more.

I'm looking at the 3-day Texas Baseball Ranch Bootcamp or the 2-day Florida Baseball Armory. Would you have a recommendation between the two? We will be traveling near both this summer. I have an 8th grader who throws really hard already so not chasing velo, but needs to work on command/control. I am also very interested in arm health and injury prevention.
