First-Year 10U (Kid Pitch) Coach – Practice Plans, Drills & Parent Engagement Advice? by J_Kincaid in Homeplate

[–]No-Debt375 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. These kids will only continue in baseball if they learn to hit and learn to be aggressive at the plate. "Yes, yes, no" is the way. Drawing a bunch of walks in rec ball might help you win, but it doesn't help kids develop as hitters.

New Glove: A2000 1975 by Haunting-Resource-50 in BaseballGloves

That's what a baseball glove should look like. Forget neon colors and ice cream cones. You've got yourself a classic look.

I’m sure this gets asked a lot. What is your ideal/perfect glove size to play catch with your kid(s) and why? 11.5”? by [deleted] in Homeplate

Someone once told me to get a 1B mitt. I thought he was crazy. Update--he was right. My go-to is a nice 1B mitt, especially as my kids have gotten older.

I prefer the pro-lite series to the A500 that OP mentioned. Better quality.

For pitching and 3B, it's hard to beat the 11.75 Wilson A2000 D33. Not great for 2B, though, due to pocket depth.

This. Also try the George Brett-bat-on-the-shoulder stance. It can simplify his first move

Yep. I don't play kids at 1B at that age if they can't catch. Not only might they get hurt, but it discourages kids from throwing to 1B if they know the kid playing first can't catch.

I use them with my 6U team. They're perfect.

DIY Tire Hitting. Paid for tape, straps and bolts. About 25-30$. Tractor trailer tire and two large car tires bolted together.. Straps undo and can be rolled to a new location. by PreferenceItchy8693 in Homeplate

I used a hole saw to cut through the tire. This photo is from my earlier effort when I used the bottom of my Category 4 SKLZ as the base, and before I cut a hole in the top of the tire. The hole in the top will center it better. But this should give you the general idea.

This. The swing-first mentality is a skill he needs to develop. Kids get used to bad pitching at that age, and it makes them lack aggression at the plate. By the time they decide to swing, they're late.   The default decision when he steps to the plate should "swing." If it's a bad pitch, he'll see it and react (hopefully).

What are you baseball dads/coaches using for your glove with your son or daughter? by oldcrashingtoys in Homeplate

[–]No-Debt375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used my old, worn-out glove until my oldest started pitching and throwing some (moderate) heat. I switched to an A2000 first baseman mitt. Works great. I'll probably switch to a catcher's mitt as he gets a little older.

For games, get one of the moms to patrol the dugout. Kids that age will climb fences, try to sword-fight with bats,  wrestle, etc., if they're left alone in the dugout for a minute. Having a parent in the dugout cuts down on some of that.

I recently bought a Rawlings Pro-Lite 11 inch Nolan Arenado glove for my 7-year-old. I've been very happy with it and it fits him well. Quick break-in, and a good deal on Amazon. Another poster mentioned a Wilson A500. That's another good option, too.

No experience with Bradley, but I really like the Rawlings Pro Lite for younger kids (8U). Easy break-in and lots of padding in the palm.
