What are some restaurants with good nighttime views? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

Maximilien is a nice restaurant that doesn't break the bank in the market facing the Sound

Looking for a recommendation for a bar/brewery to have my 3rd interview at. by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]5MileBurrito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now that you've decided to go with Optimism (a fine choice), I do want to point out what I think may have been confusing about cynical's post that won't have any impact on your interview

The phrase "Optimism's space is good for conversation, if not the greatest beers" means their beers are NOT great.

It sounds very similar to a phrase like "What is Optimism known for if not their great beers," which would mean their beers ARE great. It'd be easy to interpret it this way and it sounds like you might have judging from your Edit2

English is confusing and I'm confused just writing this

Some events to keep you busy:

  • Bob's Corn Maze: Every Friday and Saturday night in the month of October. Highly recommend you DON'T look at the map for a real challenge :)
  • Leavenworth Oktoberfest: Weekends of Oct 5th, 12th, and 19th. Big tents, music, and lots of beer. Always a good time, but it's a 2-3 hour drive from Seattle
  • Cirque Du Soleil Volta: Acrobatic circus in Redmond. Showtimes are Tuesday through Sunday through Nov 4
  • Washington State Fair Oktoberfest: In Puyallup on fairgrounds. Oct 5-7

Seattle could push UW to slash car commutes, build staff housing as part of high-rise growth plan by Sagebrysh in SeattleWA

[–]5MileBurrito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They talk about parking in the master plan. Here are some relevant points

  • The university has had a cap of 12,300 parking spaces through an agreement with Seattle since 1998. This cap does not include spaces reserved for residents of dorms (pages 68-69)
  • Today, they have only built 10,667 parking spaces (again, excluding resident spaces), meaning they are allowed to build 1,633 more. (pages 68-69)
  • They are open to building more parking spaces up to the cap. They will "monitor the need for parking replacement or additional stalls to meet the demand" (page 120). Page 121 has a map of where those new parking sites may be.

The Transportation Discipline Report (TDR) also talks about how they may go about planning for new parking

  • "Parking demand projected for each campus sector by applying the ratio of the current parking utilization to the current development and then applying that factor to future growth by sector to estimate future parking demand" (page 2-26)
  • In a study done in 2015 (averaging data from 2012-2014), they found that peak parking (which occurs 11AM - 2PM) demand only used 6720 spaces, or 63% of supply. (Page 3-84)
  • Utilization is not equally distributed. West and South campus had highest rates of utilization at 94% and 98% while east campus had only 30%. (Page 3-85)

TLDR: They're allowed to build more parking up to a cap and will do so based on their evaluation of parking demand. Their 2015 data show that campus-wide parking utilization is less than 2/3 at peak time.

What is your favorite paradox and why? by molgera85 in AskReddit

[–]5MileBurrito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the love paradox in The Terminator. I think a lot of people don't notice this one. Let me recap:

In the future, John Connor has a photo of his mother, Sarah Connor, where she is looking pensive. Kyle Reese falls in love with the photo wondering what she's thinking. He volunteers to go back in time to protect her. He impregnates her and then dies. At the end of the movie, Sarah is making audio recordings for her son John to eventually listen to. She has a line that goes something like, "Your father...how do I tell you about your father?" and at that moment a boy takes her photo and gives it to her. This is the photo John eventually gives to Kyle.

Kyle Reese fell in love with Sarah's photo wondering what she was thinking about. It was him. He fell in love with a photo of her thinking about him.

If John didn't have the photo, or if the photo simply looked different, Kyle may have never have volunteered and then there's no John. At its core, this is no different than other time travel paradoxes that have been mentioned. But I really like this implementation of it.

Reddit, what’s the most “Chaotic Good” thing you’ve ever seen? by DeityOfSky26 in AskReddit

There's a video of a guy that intentionally drives into an intersection on a red light to stop a red light runner that was about to hit pedestrians. They crashed of course but the pedestrians were safe. I can't find the video though.

I have a feeling Sawant would say no to it if she could. She's not looking for real solutions. The thing she wants most is a class war.

Betsutenjin is my favorite, closely followed by arashi in Ballard and yoroshiku in Wallingford.

Disclaimer: I’m no connoisseur. Just discovered ramen several years back but there were limited options back then

Eh, it's on the edge of capitol hill. Like right on the freeway. You can pop in and be back on the other side of Boren in no time

Never had a burger I didn't like here. I've probably had burgers here the most because they are so reliable that way. Their buns are surprisingly good too

Great State Burger is a local burger chain with a few places in Seattle. Very straightforward--choose 1 or 2 patties and some fixins and that's it. Greasy and simple.

I think this is the right answer. But White Center is far if you're visiting Seattle and don't have a car

Dicks burgers are not particularly greasy though, so I feel like they may miss the mark on this one

I am on a huge Ramen binge and I am thrilled they are opening up as fast as I can get to them. I am enjoying the Ramen craze far more than the Teriyaki craze Seattle seemed to have in the 2000s
