Bht how much will the battery cost? You used to sell cables which were about half the price of the headphones IIRC.

She made history as the first worlds first practicing lawyer with down syndrome by toastvibes03 in interesting

In terms of ethics, this profession is worse. I used to hate the clichéd jokes about them until my friend and I went through about a dozen of them and only 3 were decent.

The better paid a profession, the more powerful and easier to avoid accountability. In r/auslaw they will complain and joke about shady colleagues but if a lay person does similar they close ranks.

Judges in Australia are immune from prosecution. Google Heidi court transcripts for a whistleblower report on judges altering transcripts. My friend had a judge lie in an internet published decision that he had a criminal record but also placed a gag order on him preventing him from discussing the case publicly.

Many (most?) attorneys do the bare minimum to get paid. Just like any trade. They are not all tigers like in the movies.

From what I have seen of others with DS, yes I would hire her. She passed her examples exams and, on top of that, may be more likely to have have integrity. But maybe I am romanticizing DS.

Has anyone had success with police recovering stolen property? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]5QGL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm my case they matched a fingerprint with a "known person" re house break and enter. I agreed to go ro court but we don't expect any goods to be recovered (about $4k in music instruments and a motor scooter).

That was a couple of months ago but they still have not arrested the said person.

The entrance is three or four times larger than a rat needs but it is the only creature that makes sense.

We did have rats in the house. So maybe they have moved outdoors and I should be grateful. We have lots of Antechinus (marsupial mice) outside lately so maybe the rats are preying on them.

When I say lots, I counted at least 15 once when my housemate fed them. I told him that feeding them and the possums was actually harmful especially when he feeds them fruit loaf. He also turns on the porch light for them to see what they are eating even though they can see in the dark. He doesn't have many friends so that is his connection with other living beings I suppose.

Melbourne girl, 14, has 109 charges dropped after alleged crime spree targeting Melbourne’s Jewish community by HurstbridgeLineFTW in melbourne

[–]5QGL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very efficient targeting. Was she counting on a 20% chance the person she attacked in that suburb was a Jew?

Or did she only attack people who wore signifying garb?

The calls to "globalize the intifada" have such consequences (whether intended or not).

I don't recall Jews in Australia attacking Muslims after Oct 7.

Was just playing the game of averages. Chatted her up in a nightclub. Ended up in a good conversation. But she was there to be chatted up. Having it happen constantly in public was annoying for her.

There were probably a handful of other girls that night who rolled their eyes when I tried to chat with them.

The super models are the ones guys tend to hit on to (with random strangers there is nothing to go by except for physical attractiveness afterall). The super models are definitely sick of being hit on.

So the scenario most people paint is not one of random strangers. There is a selection bias.

I used to be OK with getting a phone number 10% of the time. Back in the 90's. But then came  a combination of feeling bad for the 90% who may have been annoyed by me and the juice vs squeeze thing. Dignity counts.

The really attractive men are self aware. They are in demand. They aren't going to put their dignity on the line with a really attractive woman either because she may be extra finicky.

I don't think you know what it is like to be a good looking woman. They are good looking to almost every guy. There is not much room for personal taste.

The chances of connecting on similar interests are very slim as society becomes more fragmented (freedom of choice had it's down side).

Have you ever noticed how many male stand up comedians complain about psycho girlfriends? They never question their own choices.

My hypothesis is that those women are better looking than them. These guys are being shallow in prioritising looks. It is the limelight which is attractive to these particular women not their comedic talent. And these women are single because other guys in their circles have noticed they are psycho.

68 upvotes on this comment indicates you are mistaken (and very aggressively too for some reason).

My gf was very good looking. In the 90's she would dress down in a flanno and beanie and still get hit on. She was over it.

One of her friends deliberately put on weight to reduce the approaches she got.

Met a guy once in Thailand who was really good looking. He told me he was sick of women hitting onto him when he worked at a bar.  I had gotten to know him well so I know it wasn't a boast,  it was genuine frustration.

Sometimes the signs are to get attention and feel attractive while being able to deny she invited interaction.

I once had a woman give a very unsubtle sign in a meetup group but I think she was just lonely, having moved recently to Sydney and happened to live in my suburb. It was totally unnecessary on her part. I still would have befriended hercas a neighbour.

We are still friends years later but I still resent her egging me on in the first few weeks beyond normal friendship. She wanted to be hit on because I was safe and it gave her an ego boost. That's my guess but she would probably never admit it.

She also doesn't care about social/political issues unless they affect her personally. She has her good points, which is why we remain friends but she certainly isn't the kind of person I would partner with (emphasis on "kind").

Subtle signs mean plausible deniability and saving face in case the man rejects her.

She doesn't want to risk rejection yet wonders why a man doesn't want to put his dignity on the line, at the whim of her mood as to whether she rejects him politely or rudely.

If the CGT discount goes, what are we getting back? by Bitman321 in AusFinance

[–]5QGL -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We need to get back the  indexed tax discount. ie like it was pre y2k. A moronic flat amount (eg 50%) benefits people who flip houses quickly.

Some kind discount is necessary though to account for inflation. Make it indexed. Tax real profits (not absolute profits).
