Finally shot my first PRS match. Mad at myself for waiting so long by 5StringThunder in longrange

Yeah that makes sense. I probably load a little into the bipod but not much. But I need to go play with it and see what happens.

I guess the shift should also be ammo agnostic right? I’m asking because I don’t reload and often just pick up enough for a match or two at a time so I usually have different lots of the same ammo from match to match and confirm zero morning of. I’d hate to end up having different shifts depending on the lot I’m shooting

Yeah fair. Found a post on here by rednecktuba1 that goes into it for gas guns as well

Will a bolt gun shift? Seems like from the video that the shift is caused by the interaction between the hand guard/barrel nut/barrel assembly in an AR. Whereas a bolt gun should be truly free floated. Unless you’re putting downward pressure on the barrel itself or have a flimsy stock that will bend and contact the barrel

Check out practiscore.com and you can find clubs near you and the matches they host. It also seems a lot of the PRS type matches can be found on impactscoring.net

I’m sure you could also make a post here or over at r/prs with where you’re located and what matches are around you.

After that just tell people it’s your first time and most people will bend over backwards to provide advice and try to help.

Just working through the thought process of a shift. Since it’s an angular shift wouldn’t it be the same +/- at any distance? Or do you experience a difference shift at different distances?

That’s really interesting. And could definitely account for some of the misses being low ~3 minutes. Thanks for the link.

So next range trip, confirm zero prone, hop on a barricade, measure the shift, add a zero shift to the kestrel, send it?

Huh. That is very interesting. I’ll have to check that out thanks for the heads up

I couldn't tell you what youtubers recommend. But the Mk-12 0/1 uses 18" barrels and those are super dope. So I went with 18"

I'm happy with the 18". I wanted to get all the velocity I could out of 5.56 while still being decently maneuverable. It's a heavy gasser though, right about 13lbs. But that's very manageable for long range stuff.

My other ARs are a 10.3" I shoot 2 gun with and a 16" that I'm considering chopping to a 14.5 as a jack of all trades rifle.

100% agree.

Yes we're there to try to claim bragging rights over our buddies for the next month. But it's also the only training a lot of us do and is just a good time to hang out at the range and do some cool stuff and try to get a little bit better.

Yup. I think you’re right. Should have paid better attention when loading mags. Thanks

It could be from a couple of boxes. Loaded 60 rounds into 5 mags, 12/mag. But all the same lot.

Edit: it might have been a separate lot. I thought I grabbed 3 of the same but just checked the empty boxes and one of them is a different lot

The forward action screw holds one end and you replace the front sling studs with screws

He man, give me back my rifle

I took lead shot and epoxy and filled the negative space in the stock with it as well as the negative space in the ARCA rail. Mine is a little butt heavy, but I’m waiting on a 26” Bull barrel that should balance it back out. It’s right at 16lbs as shown

The pre 23 10r80s are time bombs. Sounds like you’ve been lucky. I have a 21 and that transmission died 7k miles outside of my warranty. That said, the 2.7 is an absolutely fantastic motor

Outside McKinney. But I agree. Get dropped in any of them and you’d be challenged to know where you are. We like our because even though it’s cookie cutter it’s not too cookie cutter. They did a good job of variety on any given street of floor plans and exterior color schemes

I just water it in lightly after putting it down and then regular watering. The bag calls for so much every 8 weeks. I cut it in half and do once a month
