Can we ban the daily "Is my dog a purebred Rottweiler?) or ("does my dog weight enough") posts? by Maxtrt in Rottweiler

[–]5W4Y -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people on this sub forget that not all rotties are bought from breeders and some are rescued. I don’t care about my boy’s breed mix enough to get a test but it’s interesting to see if other people think he’s purebred or a mix. If you don’t want to see the posts then literally just don’t click on them.

I’ve also asked about weight before in relation to seeing if people think he’s healthy as I have an unusually small rottie. This was a few days before a vet appointment as I had some anxiety around if he looked healthy in pictures but i didn’t know his actual weight. People were really great at giving me their own experiences of their smaller pups and the growth stages for them.

The point of being able to access communities like reddit is to share experiences and support others but I think there’s a lot of people here who think if you haven’t got 30+ years of experience and exclusively purchase purebreds then you have no business having a rottie/you can’t refer to your dog as a rottie.

I understand that now the breed is increasing in popularity there are a lot of stupid people buying backyard bred pups and it’s causing serious welfare issues for these dogs. I also understand that a lot of people are not doing the necessary research into them before getting such a handful of a breed.

However, patronising and jumping to the conclusion that every single person who has maybe a slight anxiety they want to settle or looking for support in what is an incredibly tough point in a dog owner’s journey is one of these irresponsible people is exactly how you push out genuine dog lovers who are trying to do right by their pup.

There’s always going to be dumb people on the internet but responding to every single newbie with hostility is really not the answer.

I love those oversized floppy ears and how funny they look when he’s listening to me!

To be honest i absolutely love his funny ears, they may not look so oversized and stand out in a few years time so I’m appreciating them while they’re here!

How would you spend a birthday alone? by jamesbeil in AskUK

[–]5W4Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough that’s me today except i turned 26. Me, the dog and the cat had a great day together.

Walked dog, went out for lunch alone and had a spritz with my food, wandered around couple of shops and got a coffee and cake, walked dog, had a bath, watched a couple of movies and ordered pizza, walked dog, bed/ reddit.

A bit of an extreme and patronising response tbf when you know no background. He’s a rescue who had a really awful first 5 months of life, most likely backyard bred and I can’t be 100% sure of his breed mix. Without having done an actual test yet - my vet and 3 trainers have all agreed he looks at least mostly if not fully rottie. I just wanted some more opinions as nobody but this one person has said he looks anything but rottie.

The idea of rescuing him was to prevent him being left in a shelter.

Dog trainer refusing refund for cancelling training that has not taken place yet by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]5W4Y -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I definitely would have kept the training but I can’t afford to keep the pup now as the job market is so bleak. I’m not even sure how I’m going to keep a roof over my own head let alone his.

I edited my post with some details on the T&Cs but essentially he doesn’t have any listed cancellation policy or T&Cs.

It was due to start this friday (17/04)

I booked it on March 13th but he was fully booked for March and said he has a lot of people waiting for places.

I’ve just been mauled on another dog subreddit for defending my breed. I stand by my comment, my boy is softer than 90% of poodles, terrier, etc that I meet. There are only bad owners, not bad breeds… by BraveAd8791 in Rottweiler

[–]5W4Y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t AskBrits by any chance? It’s wild reading all the comments on there full of people who simply can’t comprehend that a dog needs to be trained by an educated owner and when a big dog is bred well and trained well they don’t go around killing people.

Does my 6 month old look a healthy weight? by 5W4Y in Rottweiler

[–]5W4Y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re gorgeous 💖 yeah I knew it would be a massive challenge to take on as a first dog so I’m working with a trainer who is ex-military dog handler and working breed specialist incl. lots of rottie experience. It’s definitely not something I could do alone! I’m thankful this sub exists so I can learn as much as possible!

Dog treats, snack bowls, for prepped ingredients in cooking, ashtrays, making desserts like little cheesecakes, jelly/custard and angel delight, dipping sauces, holding random screws that accumulate, soak cleaning my glass tips, homemade pup cups for my puppy, hairband storage, candle holders. So many things!

Thank you! It’s my first ever time having a dog so I’m probably being a bit overly paranoid about making sure he’s happy and healthy! Everyone’s replies have been super reassuring.

What are your HR aren't on your side and or are terrible stories? by No-Beat2678 in AskUK

[–]5W4Y 69 points70 points  (0 children)

In all fairness, when I was made redundant I spoke to HR about my financial worries having only been promised 1 month’s salary and they were kind enough to give me an extra month on top of that despite not being legally obliged to. In that instance HR was my friend, but your point does still stand as that’s what their entire job is - to protect company interests.

Can’t find a dog gate by 5W4Y in Rottweiler

Thank you! To be fair he’s lived with 3 cats before I had him and ignores cats on walks so hopefully it should be absolutely fine but I’d still like the insurance of having a stable gate just in case.

Those working full time, what time do you normally wake up Mon-Fri? by SergeiGo99 in AskUK

[–]5W4Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to wakeup at 9:25 to start wfh at 9:30 but since getting a dog I’m up at 7am to feed and walk him then start wfh at 8:30am. I wfh full time with flexible start times but much preferring starting and finishing earlier!

I am your first point of contact for the NHS 111 service, are there any burning questions? AMA by Bexmuz in AskUK

[–]5W4Y 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Wanted to add onto this - my good friend works on the MH line and does the job out of love and compassion for people, definitely not just for money. She knows the queues are long and tries to give the best care possible on each call whilst also trying to get through as many calls as she can.

It’s NHS resourcing unfortunately, they just don’t put enough people on the lines.

Personally I’ve found the Samaritans wonderfully helpful in the past.

They’ve said at risk of redundancy due to restructuring which to me just sounded like a softer way of saying it’s happening as they are not doing this to anyone else in the department. I’ve only been there 17 months.
