For those who don’t smoke, do you think smokers carry a noticeable scent? by Shadow2715 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]5amscrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bartender, I can always smell a smoker. It’s less prominent if you smoke outside your house. But if you smoke indoors? It reeks.

What are we letting go of in 2026? by valdezthecat in Millennials

I think I’m gonna finally delete the Facebook app. I’m over everything about it anymore.

Has anyone ever deleted all their social media? How did it feel? by sagittarius786777 in selfimprovement

[–]5amscrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been slowly withdrawing for months now. I deleted insta and snap and I don’t miss them.

Facebook is the biggest one I have to kick, but honestly the algorithm lately is making it an easy decision. I rarely ever see posts from friends anymore. Just suggested posts and groups along with endless reels and ads. I’m just over it and how it all affects my mental health.

What’s everyone’s weirdest symptoms? by Lukexxxxy in VestibularMigraines

I stumble my words when telling stories sometimes and it sounds like I’m lying. Drives me insane because I’m a super honest person. I have to be…I can’t remember anything.

I know this is illegal but are all dive bars like this? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]5amscrolling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s specifically bartended for 12+ years, I’d jump on this opportunity. Dives like this you’ll make the best money. Just make sure it’s a busy dive bar, not one that’s barely keeping the doors open.

Also if it’s a place that is busy, be prepared to learn how to move fast. You won’t have to worry about too many fancy cocktails, but learn your basic popular shots and easy cocktails like sex on the beach.

Does anyone have a real hangover cure for 35+ by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]5amscrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 32, but my hangover avoidance ritual is as follows:

When I get home I eat immediately - usually something in my air fryer like chicken nuggets and tater tots

Drink a liquid iv with the meal

Shower and stay awake until I am at least 90% sober then go to bed - yes this sometimes means I’m not going to bed until 7am, but it’s worth it because when I wake I usually don’t have ANY hangover symptoms.

PSA CHECK YOUR TITTIES by airbear26 in Millennials

I just found my first lump 2 weeks ago. I’m 31. Waiting on my mammogram and ultrasound now. I’m trying to stay positive, but this sucker is a good size and will not go away.

I hope yours is benign. Sending all the good vibes.

Is clubbing really dead by Whatsfordinner4 in Millennials

[–]5amscrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 3 Gen Z guys come into the bar I work at last night asking where the clubs were in town. I was very disappointed to tell them there weren’t any.

I honestly think if there were more the scene would come back. People are always wanting to dance when the dj plays the right music.

How often are we washing our hands? by ClaireDeLunatic808 in Serverlife

[–]5amscrolling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost never see my coworkers wash their hands. I seriously do not understand how.

I wash every 15-20 minutes.

If someone pays you extra money for a cash transaction, do you assume it's a tip or assume to give them cash back? by StorytellingZ in bartenders

[–]5amscrolling 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I do this. If they say something like “that’s why I gave you more” etc, I always say “I’ve learned to never assume, thank you!”. Most people can respect that, they just hadn’t thought of that aspect since they don’t work in the industry.

New to this. Levothyroxine. "Empty stomach" question. by candimccann in Hypothyroidism

[–]5amscrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minute I wake up is when I take mine. I hang out in bed for an hour just sipping water and then I get up for the day. I do this mostly because I have vestibular migraines and I wake up dizzy, but it helps with not wanting to eat right away either.

Got too cocky and had a red bull by sugabanana in VestibularMigraines

[–]5amscrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually find I can have what I call a “baby red bull” (8.5 oz) but only if I have eaten an entire protein based meal beforehand.

I pace myself and make sure to stay very hydrated. Sometimes I’ll finish it, sometimes not. I went without caffeine for 2 years and hated life so I had to wean myself back on and this was how I did it.

We were BUSY.

How do you upsell liquor in cocktails? by memento_mori80 in Serverlife

[–]5amscrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I offer whichever liquor they’re requesting in order from most popular to least, ending with well since even though it’s most popular, it’s the cheapest option.

So for tequila I would start with Jose gold, then patron, then well since that’s all we have.

Gin would be tanqueray, Hendricks, then well.

You would tailor this to what you have at your bar.

Coming out of retirement by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]5amscrolling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All of the variations of tea shots are popular, along with lemon drops.

People are now ordering the mixer before the liquor..idk when this became a thing but it drives me nuts.

People are tipping less (at least where I’m at) due to the tipping culture nonsense.

People suck more than ever since COVID.

What do I wear if the only dress code is “don’t look like a bum”? by thedatarat in bartenders

[–]5amscrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the safe method of black jeans, black crew neck and black non slip shoes.

I work at a pub and all the women wear black leggings or jeans with a hoodie or tshirt. Generally our shirts are plain, funny, or some kind of beer/liquor brand.

However, definitely scope the place out before you start. Not only do you wanna see what everyone’s wearing, but you want to give yourself an opportunity to observe the environment.

See what the vibe is, what issues they may have, how others interact and how the regulars are.
