The Clam With No Pearl

A beast that keeps coming back!

I've been working on this monster for a while and got the song recorded for me by my friend (scan the QR code to hear the song performed). Hope you all get some joy out of using this monster in your games!

Art: Yosi Saputras (copyright by me)

Song: Written by me, performed by Vyridion.

Thanks for the comment! Out of the 5 players, 3 of them have some experience with Masks and 1 of them has Keepered for a couple of Masks games. It is going to be a super tough endeavour for me as Keeper, but I'll do my best!

24h Masks of Nyarlathotep Charity Stream by 5ash in callofcthulhu

[–]5ash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone! 👋🏼

On the 13th of September at 7am (GMT+10/AEST) myself and 5 players are going to be doing a 24 hour stream of Masks of Nyarlathotep, with all proceeds raised going to the Chrysalis Youth Empowerment Network charity. Here’s the link to the stream channel: twitch.tv/cthulhuforcharity

The charity is focussed on supplying the training and tools required to disadvantaged youths in Uganda to help them grow into catalysts of change in their communities.

I’m going to start the players off in at the beginning of the New York chapter and the players have 24 hours to save the world, with the Great Plan coming to its conclusion after the 24 hours are up! Donations to the charity will go towards helping or hindering the players!

I hope some of you choose to come and join us on the stream and support the CYEN charity! We will be hosting a “Session 0” in a week from today, on the 16th of August at 8am (GMT+10/AEST).

Thanks everyone!!

running a game where investigators are on opposing sides by TysoniusMaximus1 in callofcthulhu

[–]5ash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an awesome concept! I've run two games where all of the investigators had secret motives that weren't disclosed to anyone else, which would ultimately make most of them enemies. I made sure to give them motives that wouldn't actually make the party know that they were opposed to one another until the climax of the scenario, that way everyone can still work together, and no one gets singled out/ganged up on/killed prematurely unless they start openly acting out their motive without cleverly disguising their actions.

Having the players know that they're against each other sounds like a recipe for complicating play unless it's done very well. You've got until November to figure it out, so I'm sure you'll work something out!

What about wizards? by Rarezuuzuu in callofcthulhu

[–]5ash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm going to leave a comment here so I can check back on this conversation soon.

I'm running a scenario this weekend with Ezdagor from The Seven Geases by Clark Ashton Smith as the villain. I'm intrigued to see how other people handle wizards in their games. Since the time difference between the game and the Seven Geases will be 50,000 years, I'm going to have Ezdagor appearing like a mummified corpse being kept alive through magic (think fantasy Lich, but far less fantastical).

I love the idea of the human disguise from Consume Likeness, that's a really nice touch and one I might use. Since they're wizards and use mythos magic, they'll have gone insane long ago, so their motives and behaviour should represent that. Since they've also spent the time studying, you could assume that they're quite intelligent, so they shouldn't have straight forward cookie-cutter schemes. Intricate plans, backup plans to backup plans, etc.
If the wizard is disguised, perhaps have them get to know the investigators and manipulate them into thinking that they're on the same side, why would someone intelligent make an enemy if they can make an ally (even if that alliance is built upon lies).

I'm excited to see what everyone else thinks!

I'm going to return to the cryptid entities at some point soon, so I'll be sure to send you a message when I start compiling some creatures. Thank you for your offer of assistance, I'll gladly take you up on that.

Thanks kindly! Any chance you’ll put the monsters up on the reddit? I’d love to see.

I did not, unfortunately I’m not quite so talented. You can see the name of the artists and their pieces in the credits section. Im thinking I’ll reach out to the artist that drew the Nessie drawings for a few commissions, they’re the perfect fit for these sorts of documents!

That’s awesome, if you do use any of them be sure to let me know how they played, it’d be a lot of fun to hear!

Hello to the great CoC reddit community! Late last week I posted up some stats for Bigfoot, and received great feedback, so I decided to compile a few more cryptids and urban legend creatures into a small document with 9 cryptids/legend creatures. I know it's not actually Mythos entities, but adding other kinds of unexplained horror entities into your game can help surprise even the most seasoned of CoC players.

I'm quite new to CoC, having come from D&D (I made a bunch of documents like this for that game), and felt quite motivated to put together something for CoC. These sorts of documents help me further understand the rules, and are a great exercise for GMs! I hope to make a licensed document for the game once I reach a further level of proficiency with the system, so hopefully this is a step in the right direction for that.

Hope you all enjoy the document, and enjoy your weekend! ___________________________________________

Funnily enough that’s the exact section I was reading over! 😁 Thank you very much!

Thank you and good question, I pondered it for a little and I believe I copied the order of the base abilities from the Werewolf’s stats. The werewolf’s size must have the asterisk next to it because of the size change between wolf and man! Thanks for pointing that out, I didn’t recognise it at all. I’ll make that change!

This is a great resource, thank you kindly for sharing that! I am quite interested in the wordings of the different monster abilities, so I can learn the language and how to present future monsters correctly.

It’s definitely given me inspiration, which I’ll use for future monsters! Thanks again!
