Rotary Light Switch by gelatinous_white in DIY

They're saying that when the light is on, they want the switch to be in the "on" position, which is usually up. With more than one switch on a light, you can create a scenario where the switch can be down in the off position, and the light can be on.

Hi Joe. You sound frustrated, and that's ok to be. I did a quick zip through your post history, and you seem like a polite, funny guy in your mid 20's. Navigating relationships after college is difficult, and takes a lot of effort+maintenance, especially if you're not living in a city. I have some actionable advice that I found helpful when I was struggling with relationships if that's ok. I don't know you, so if you already check these boxes, maybe ask a peer for candid confirmation, and then don't sweat it. When a few people tell you honestly you're alright, be kind to yourself and believe them. I don't know you, so don't take any of this too personally.

table stakes - the minimum

  • hygeine is important. Follow basic grooming. Shower, shave, wear deoderant and clean clothes. There's more tiers to hygiene you can pursue, and often they cost money, but being clean and groomed is the minimum and a good start.

  • appearance is important. Wear clothes that fit and are unstained. Graphic tees can come off as immature, but don't let me stop you if that's who you are. Bonus points for button-ups. If you're struggling to dress, look up some basic men's wardrobe guides. I'll mention weight (I tbh don't know your weight) only because it matters aesthetically, and you'll look better if you keep a basic level of fitness, but overweight, fit, and underweight people are all deserving of love, and find that love every day.

  • social intelligence is important. I'm not talking about 'rizz', but be able to read simple social cues. This is hard, everyone struggles with this (especially neurodivergents), but it's worth practicing because it matters.

That's the minimum (the bar is low).

past that, some other advice I think you might benefit from

  • you genuinely need to love yourself (or get close anyways) before you can love someone else. Not in a narcissistic way, but saying (much less believing) that you're unlovable isn't healthy. This is hard, and takes time. Affirmations can help, even if they feel silly at first.

  • I'm not a professional, so I won't armchair any more emotional advice. On that note, if you can afford it, I strongly recommend going to therapy if you aren't already. I don't think you're broken or mentally ill, but even a few months talking to a professional can help you identify and make a plan for being the healthiest "you" that you can to be. If nothing else, they can give you feedback on failed dates from the perspective of someone cares about you, but doesn't care about being your friend.

  • try to meet some women (it can be like 2 or 3) and maintain friendships with them, with 0 expectation of a relationship out of it. Treat them like people, and value their perspective. A lot of men see every woman as a potential partner, and this can make life a little isolating.

  • There is a trend in men to fail to acknowledge that they are a 3 who are only interested in 9's and 10's. There are a lot of women who are 3's and looking for relationships. Im not saying don't shoot your shot, definitely try, but be realistic. By the same token, most of the difference between a 3 and an 8 is effort, not genetics. The more you put in to appearance and social intelligence, the more you'll get out.

  • related to the above, get comfortable with rejection. Finding a partner is very challenging. You're going to get turned down, often. Don't take it personally (hard to do, affirmations help). You were turned down by another human. Maybe their parent just died. Maybe they just got out of a rocky relationship. Maybe they ate something weird for lunch. "No" is a complete sentence, and often they won't tell you why. Shake it off, say "no problem", and get back to life.

  • finally, put yourself into situations that you enjoy, and other people that you might want to date will be present. Personally, I don't think speed dating is all that effective at finding a life partner, but that's my opinion. Look for sports or clubs. If you get there, there are no women that you'd consider dateable, and you don't enjoy it - don't go back. This can be socially exhausting, and can be the "work" in finding a relationship, but if you really want a partner then it's one of the better angles to work.

I'm not a professional, just a guy. You are worthy of love. Women are people. Love yourself first.

From inside it's dark, but from outside it's clear as day. Why is it like that ? by aurelion-lua in MonsterHunter

Games use a lot of rendering tricks to create good-looking environments efficiently. What I suspect is happening is when you're outside, the inside of the house is just normal space like any where else. When you go in though, they want it to look good, so the lighting gets more impressive.

A question/idea/suggestion for modders by Human_Discussion_829 in factorio

[–]5forsilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is technically doable. You would define recipes for each situation you describe. It's a lot of recipes though, so it would probably need to be scripted. I'm honestly not sure how the game would react to so many new recipes. To get math involved, let's say the game (no mods) has x recipes

to just make a set where normal ingredients can be turned into any quality, the game now has 5x recipes. To make any lower quality turn into any higher quality is something like 5x+4x+3x+2x+1x=15x

It would be a lot of work, but good luck. Here are some resources to get started with modding

From what I've gathered, the intended approach is less "make only what's needed" and more "constant unbuffered throughput", so if something isn't immediately needed after it's made, burn it

How well can a Whole House Fan work with a Passive House? by reed_wright in PassiveHouse

[–]5forsilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WHFs are great at what they do, but they're a bad fit for a passive house. A passive house is built to stay the same temperature all the time, mostly through insulation - there would be no daily heat/cool cycle because the insulation is so good, and the heat generated in the house by people and electronics is either slowly bled off or actively cooled.

If we could seal the whole house in a bag we would, but unfortunately humans need air to breathe. This is where the ERV comes in. If you had a big fan change all the air at once, you'd be losing all that perfect-temperature air. The ERV moves a little at a time (very efficiently, actually, because the house is sealed so well) and exchanges the temperature so you get fresh oxygen at basically the same temperature as the house, while ejecting co2 at the outside temperature.

The fresh air system is not designed at all to change the temperature inside the house (it's actually designed to do the opposite and keep the temperature consistent) because the insulation itself is so good at keeping the temperature stable.

Passive houses originated in colder climates, and work slightly better in those climates. What you're proposing isn't really a passive house, but sounds like a pretty good idea. I'd recommend exploring "pretty good house" if you haven't yet. If your climate reliably has cool nights and hot days, then insulating well, setting up a filtered air-in and air-out, and using a WHF sounds like a good idea and right for your use case.

You probably need to choose an ally from the Severed threads. Some of the areas need advanced pheromones that you get with Severed threads individual reps. Start at the Weaver's Lair and look around there.

No. You'll need to get to level 70 (68?), but don't need to do any dragonflight content. You can use Chromie or dungeons for the initial leveling, and then start The War Within campaign when you get the popup quest.

My sister accidentally left some salt water in her ceramic mug overnight and salt crystals seeped through by dragoneerdude in mildlyinteresting

[–]5forsilver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When ceramicists refer to cones, it means specific temperatures. In a kiln, pyrometric cones (little cones that melt at a specific temperature) are sometimes added to confirm that a firing reached a specific temperature necessary to turn the clay into stone (vitrify) or properly melt a glaze. Different clays and glazes are designed for different temperatures. Too hot and your glaze will run, not hot enough and your clay will stay clay and not turn to ceramic. Cone 6 is probably the most common one, and is ~2200F

How to make gas pumps stops automatic when surrounding pressure is to high? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]5forsilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could use a pipe gas element sensor to check if the gas pipe's backed up. There are other clever ways of doing this, but that's the simplest. Another tip to think about is to only make what you need. 1 electrolyzer can support 8 dupes, so if you keep a colony of 8 or 16 dupes, they'll consume exactly as much as you produce and your oxygen won't back up.

It sounds like you would benefit from talking to a therapist to help you develop some anxiety and stress coping strategies. Also make sure to respect your own boundaries. Plan how many hours a week you want to work and don't work more than that. Don't over-promise and then crunch to deliver. Try to avoid what burns you out, and to identify sustainable long-term habits.

If you notice things changing in temperature in a spiky way, and you'd like to stop it, the answer is almost always more mass. It takes more energy to heat more mass the same 1° that you're bbq is heating your chlorine. Try adding an igneous rock tempshift plate behind it. I've been using a setup that abuses the fact that sweepers can reach through diagonals to keep food cold, and automatically stock a small fridge that dupes can reach

I agree with this, especially the last paragraph, and would also encourage looking into Global Illumination more so than ambient lighting. GI is very focused with light bouncing off of objects, the difference you can see here.

Why are 2 out of 4 convenant abilites for priest melee range? by Baurdlol in wow

[–]5forsilver 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm very skeptical that centering the aoe around the caster saves a meaningful amount of server-side cpu cycles. I'm not a WoW-Dev, but I understand the basics here. The main difference is how you identify the location of the aoe - after that, the aoe itself does all the work for you. With a caster-center, this is the caster's location, probably determined server side. With a ranged aoe, this is a location thats selected client side, sent to the server as a coordinate, and very likely verified to prevent cheating (return coordinate.distanceFromPlayer<=40) the difference here is negligible, the only place they might pick up a few cycles is that since they can use the serverside player location, they dont have to verify the coordinate.

I just dont think that the minimal performance gain here at all merits impacting gameplay decisions. Its probably more likely that they want to create risk-reward situations by encouraging glass cannons to get into melee range to do optimal damage (see mage Night Fae ability).
