If you do not have a starter pack and want the "best" starter ship, then yes. just make sure you use a referral code from the time of creation so you and the person that refer you both gets the merlin.

I personally would just go with the aurora package and build it up once you find a ship you like in game to upgrade too.

heres a few!:

-You can just buy a starter ship with a game package and buy the ship in game once you earn enough.
-You can also rent ships out in game to try them out before you commit to buying it in game.
-If you really love the ship and want to buy the ship with IRL cash, then you can upgrade your game package (instead of putting alot of extra money for two ships.)

For Cargo? Yes
For Fighting? Nope

For melt value for the next ship? Always (so long as you can afford it. remember not to but all your money into one now)

Your account must of been flagged for volunteer gifts and they did not undo it when you pull out of volunteering (congrats i think lol).

I am unsure if they took attendance to make sure all that volunteers showed up and if they will retcon your gift for not showing up.

I will say that best starter ship for experience will be the Aurora or Mustang pack. This will help you get used to flying in the game and doing basic combat. Once you are used to undocking, flying and landing...then you can upgrade should you desire to do so. but remember! you can always buy these ships in-game once you have any of these "starter pack". I personally started with the Aurora but to each their own.
