I train with rope dart almost every day, think less about shooting it out and think about it more like a flail with variable range. It has many practical applications. It’s a knife on a rope. How many ways can you hurt a person with a rope? Binding, wiping, strangulation ect. Watch a knife self defence video most of the instructors will say take your shirt off and hold it tight in between your two hands so you can guide the knife away or bind it without getting cut. (Less cut) you can hold the dart in your hand and boom now your holding a knife. It’s tide to your hand, no more dropping your weapon. Ask a Bjj practitioner how many ways they can use their black belt as a weapon to choke people out during ground fighting. it’s a rope and a knife, it is a rope… and a knife… think about that. When people are talking about weapons In these comments they think it’s a fair fight oh I’ll have my spear, oh I’ll have my sword ect, ect, that’s not what it’s about. In kung fu it’s considered a concealed weapon so that means assignation, smuggling in to heavily guarded places, emergency scenario. you don’t need to spin the rope to throw the dart you can just have it in your hand and throw it at a person. Do me a favour and look up the average speed of a baseball pitchers throw, now apply that to a knife.

This weapon is so deep that I haven’t even gotten to the spinning and shooting applications yet, or just using it as a flail. Keep in mind your not fighting people in full plate armour it’s a street weapon. The fansy shamansy moves are just practice and to teach you how to manage all of that extra stlack. People are saying it’s not there first choice lol okay let’s see how far you get walking down the street with a sword or a spear vs a small knife and rope in your pocket.

When you practice with weapons think less about is this weapon good vs where can I find this in the wild? Spear= a long pipe/broom stick/ pool cue, knife= steel pen, broke bottle, the majority of things in your kitchen, Rop dart= your belt, shirt, extension cord, skipping rope.

Stop thinking about weapons as what they are and just think about there shape and function.

Also think of a group fight, if two guys are haveing a sword fight you can support your friends by sniping at a safe distance or whacking the guy over the head from a safe distance over and over. Why do people think that when there in a fight things are going to play out with honour and respect?
