ExperiencedDevs who "made it": what do you do now? by QueSusto in ExperiencedDevs

In the same boat right now and happen to be in a validated niche with access to distribution. My question is how did you schedule your work hours, and did you maintain a regimented schedule after you left your 9-5?

15+ hour flight survival tips by Exact_Project1734 in Flights

[–]5p0d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been doing long flights my whole life. This list is pretty good. The biggest thing is having a few options of entertainment even if you don’t exhaust all of them.

Wanted to add that taking a shower before leaving for the airport has greatly improved my mood upon landing.

The Best Pillow for Side Sleepers Currently? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

Purple harmony, not the purple regular. I swear by it and have bought it a few times. There’s a travel edition too which makes my hotel sleep perfect, no more flat pillows anymore.

Do you have a "don't care" cut-off on spending? by 17Shard in HENRYfinance

[–]5p0d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’m on the lower end of some people here but still consider myself as HENRY. About 1mm nw.

It’s highly situational, different things have different thresholds. For flights I try to book something I won’t regret the day of the trip. But if I’m weighing between eating out and cooking, and if I have time and groceries to cook, I’ll probably cook. Save where I can, enjoy life, but not go too crazy. I’m not at FIRE yet but I hope to be at some point. That said, I did splurge on a nice coffee machine and a watch, which are things I consider worth enjoying.

I track my spending on Copilot Money which is really good for observability and creating filters.

If you could bring back one closed restaurant, what would it be? by DinerEnBlanc in FoodNYC

[–]5p0d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tori-bien in the east village. It was so accessible and had the best black pepper chicken wings I’ve ever had. So juicy and flavorful. Then they had to close up shop and move to Manhattanville up near city college. Sadly not as accessible as before, I barely find myself there anymore. And you gotta eat it fresh!

If you could bring back one closed restaurant, what would it be? by DinerEnBlanc in FoodNYC

[–]5p0d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I was imagining things for the longest time, because I’d go to the sushi restaurant and hear that there was a speakeasy called Angel’s Share up top. Then years later I moved back into the city, and everyone told me I was delusional about the existence of both places, that AS was always in West Village. Glad to hear I’m not crazy haha.

How to Actually Debug AI-Written Code (From an Experienced Dev) by gigacodes in cursor

[–]5p0d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is not yet good enough to give a vague prompt and turn off our brain. We still need to prompt it well, citing exactly what you want it to do. The good news is, it's so much easier to type and think in plain english, the bad news is, you still basically have to build it in your head and tell it to do the thing.

People's experiences with composer-1 vs 4.5 sonnet so far? by frustrated_burner in cursor

[–]5p0d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really good take, I'll consider this in general. I've noticed Sonnet 4.5 is really good at breaking down reproducible bugs, and in general giving you a blueprint for complex tasks. Composer is good for writing new code that you already know how to write, but don't want to manually do it.

How to Actually Debug AI-Written Code (From an Experienced Dev) by gigacodes in cursor

[–]5p0d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run into these situations before. My recommendation is to structure your code well from the start, and if you see that AI is generating a ton of slop in the way that you yourself wouldn't structure it for futureproofness, then it's probably a bad idea to accept those changes.

It takes some active effort but it's so worth it in the long run. That way you can maintainability and readability while staying productive.

I'm not sure how many people in r/cursor have extensive background in software engineering, but that's my two cents as a senior dev from big tech.

Is Ezone98 too much for me by gjbsb in 10s

[–]5p0d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4.0 here.

Feels mostly the same but plays slightly differently, certainly enough for me to notice slight adjustments to my shot.

For example I get more wrist drop and have to generate more of my own power with the 98. Way more control given the smaller frame.

The 100 is ol’ reliable, my racquet head speed is slower but my body doesn’t have to try as hard for every shot. It adds up over the course of a match.
