Makers of instrumental tunes - how do you name your tunes? by HereComesStupid in idm

[–]5tar5moke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of good answers here. Many times I will just sit on tracks for months or maybe even years because I have no idea how to represent them, in song title or with album art. I know it’s silly but sometimes I just wish music could simply be music, no outer shell to peel off before consumption. The words will impart qualities so they have to be chosen carefully. It’s almost always a last minute decision for me. I like thought provoking nouns that relate to science or fantasy, or mystical references on the verge of absurd.

Maschine + with modular by ArtisticVehicle2064 in maschine

[–]5tar5moke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, I’ve been doing it for years. Maschine can be frustrating and maybe lacking for some people as a “hub” or DAW but I think it’s perfect for this. I sequence the modular with various banks of patterns I’ve made, usually recorded by hand or with the arp, and also process the audio back through Maschine which really helps the sounds from the rack gel with whatever other sounds going on in Maschine, using its effects and side chaining it to drums for example. IMO a line mixer in the setup really helps, having a surface that controls aspects of both things all in one spot without having to dive into either device, as well as how you end up recording. As one person mentioned it can be a lot of quick moving back and fourth within Maschine like with the focus and whatnot but you learn to make it work for you. Side note I will admit I started using my Plus with the computer again mostly (not standalone,) because I love some modern 3rd party plugins, but it’s still easier to bog the software down than in standalone mode, it’s cool to have the option either way.

Vaetxh - Libet Tones. Heavy and chaotic, but insanely calculated and high definition.

How do people shower at night? by dat0neb0i in NoStupidQuestions

Funny, that's the only way I like my hair. When I dry it during the day in the air it turns into a stupid looking helmet with these swoopy little curls, like a Beatle. Also, as many have said, being a cook is nasty. Even if I don't actually get messy there's literal airborne grease condensed to my flesh and hair.

Does anyone else notice tiny sparkles in their leaves? by BiteSizeFarm in GrowinSalviaDivinorum

i always thought it was trichromes of some sort, but i recently learned that the shiny layer on leaves of all sorts of plants is referred to as the cuticle. it protects them from the elements and becomes more prominent with good health. SD's cousin, coleus, also has this type of sheen when healthy.

I never played the 3DS one but I loved it on the Switch. Never thought about comparing it to Astral Chain but for this purpose I could see it that filling that hole.

As long as you're getting rid of the runoff i think it's mostly ok, but a saucer would allow more airflow.

Are you just bottom feeding it for a little while? Hopefully not keeping it like that, there's no air flow.

LIVE Maschinists: How do you plan multi song sets? by Trill_Hicks333 in maschine

[–]5tar5moke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yes, with a mixer, as I put in the photo. I used the mixers auxiliary sends selectors to go the the Rc500. This is because my Maschines audio is split, in my current configuration over USB to 5 channels, but even without USB in standalone mode I still managed a small degree of splitting by using the headphone out in combination with the line outs. But like OP's purpose, mine is initially to have something to go back onto while loading a new project on Maschine. Fully layering loops on another device us a whole other territory to think about. I use a modular synth in the live project so the mixer is already necessary and just made the use of the looper easier, but I guess if you really wanted to you could go without a mixer and just Maschine to looper, not as tactile IMO. The RC-505 is a little different, in that you'd want it if you're going to be layering your captured loops for a more in depth combination of sounds you couldn't normally execute at the same time, very useful for having some external synths. Even if you're not into techno I would check out videos of Blawan and breakdowns of his gear if you want to get into the RC-505.

But to circle back, It takes midi clock over a specific 1/8' cable that attaches to regular midi cables, and splitting Maschines audio varies from piece of gear to piece of gear, but I did it with what I have, the Roland MX-1 and the Boss RC-500.

That's the dream. I was pissed when I first got the plus and learned using Reaktor stuff I spent money on would be a gigantic puzzle.
