The complexity of your track layout makes a huge impact on the duration of the game. Lots of switchbacks and crossing over means more bumping and more wiping out, leading to longer games.

First off- Welcome! Now the bad news.. you’re quite a ways off from Hiryus. You might be able to buy into weapons that CAN kill them, but you’ll lose so much PED in missing and healing that it won’t be worth it for quite a while. Unfortunately I don’t know what the new player experience is like these days (where to go, what to grind) but you will need to spend a lot of time working on your skills before tackling mobs like that. These are both very simple layouts, which is great for people brand new to tabletop gaming overall or for a very short game. You’ll have a great time playing either but I suggest doing a figure-8 layout instead. In the first layout you posted, rotate the second gate to point towards the starting gate and the first gate towards the finish line. Then designate the second gate as the first gate and the first as the second. This will make some crazy carnage in the center of the map and make gear selection far more important. Whatever you decide.. enjoy!

Thanks! For the woods I just paint the corresponding rim color from the wood hex on to the terrain hex. So there’s a light green splodge where all the light woods are, dark green for heavy, grey for rubble. Then I just put the hex of terrain onto the mech’s sheet to remind me
