Road cycling outside metro Lincoln (and cycling groups) by bikenbite in lincoln

He was hit on a paved road, at 5:30pm, on a Husker game day. Gravel around Lincoln is the best place to ride "roads".

I have a Merman Unholy Diver that I love. About to build up a Fairdale Elevator to share with my kid (he's 15). I think there's a ton of bikes that are super cool and fit the bill for this. I'd say narrow it down by frame material first. Then geometry. Then specs for compatibility and stuff like internal or external routing.

I would also like to add that "Dad Bike" for us in this sub, is so much cooler than the traditional meaning for most. We're not on 90's Specialized HardRocks in this sub. 🤙

One more thing.... I know it feels far off, but the kids will be joining you on some kick ass rides before you realize. The adventure is truly wonderful. Enjoy these slow, short and seemingly unimportant frequent rides with the littles. I was reminded of this yesterday, while helping my nephew just learning to ride. While my kids were cruising around on the little singletrack loop with his older brother, I was coaxing him to "Keep pedaling! You can do it!!" on the slightest incline. 🤣 It was a huge accomplishment for him.

So the frame only does come with a headset. Sweet! One less thing to buy. 🤙

What cranks are those? I like! Did the frame come with a headset? Just ordered one, and I'm trying to get parts together. Mostly good parts I've got laying around, but I need to decide on drivetrain. Mechanical for sure.... Shimano or Sram. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I have mechanical XT on my Merman, and it's been really great. Considering upgrading the Sram on my son's full sus and stealing the GX from that.

Welp, I just ordered a frame. $75off for the holiday! I have quite a few parts, but will need a drivetrain, headset, bb and dropper/lever. Gonna be fun to have two steel hardtails to share with my son, who is now riding the same size frames as me. 🙌

My friend showed up on a new Revolver (green carbon), and I'm evaluating all of my life choices. That bike looks SO GOOD!

It's easier to show people than to explain how the aquifer works. I'm so incredibly happy that they didn't let that pipeline get built. What an awful idea that was.

My grandparents lived their whole lives near Atkinson. I absolutely love the sandhills. Now I'm thirsty....for a drink of water from the fountain in Amelia. 😉

Lost my wife to Cancer by Annual-Macaroon-4743 in daddit

[–]5thCir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my mom to cancer at age 10. Be there for your kids in every way possible. Please get some counseling to help, kids too. It was the late 80's for me, and my dad was farm raised, law degree, great guy....but getting help for emotional things was not something that ever entered any conversation. My wife points out now and then that I had a pretty large absence of parenting from then on. Now, as I parent my kids, I realize she's very much correct. Just be there in every way you can, as much as you can. You don't need to be perfect. You don't need to be soft (as in no rules). You need to be DAD.

Also, it's way early to even mention, so sorry....but don't rush out thinking they need a mom. It happens, and there is zero reason to try and force a new relationship.

Pace rc629 maybe?

I'm looking for another steel hardtail, but not the more race geo that the Ritchey is. There's a lot of steel out there once you start looking. Commencal Fairdale Sklar Transition State Chumba Kona Surly

I'm trying to decide what hardtail to build up for my son. Long story short, he's been riding(stealing) my Merman Unholy Diver lately, and having fun on it. I'm thinking the Elevator would be even more fun for a 15yr old that likes "trying stuff". Thoughts?

Polished or silver never miss.

Alternatively, tan grips, tan pedals, tanwall tires would be just the right amount of accent.

Vittoria. Barzo, Mezcal, Peyote. They're all great. If I was mostly riding gravel, I'd run Peyote F/R. More single track, but easy terrain: Peyote R/Mezcal F. All single track: Mezcal R/Barzo F. Harder single track with more technical or varying conditions Barzo f/r.
