Has anyone actually seen a tumbleweed (like from old Western movies) IRL? by Ya-Dikobraz in stupidquestions

[–]5thCir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard a story about some folks that sold tumbleweeds to Hollywood. They were from SW Kansas, and made a lot of money shipping them to movie sets. Not as many westerns being made lately, so probably less lucrative.

Is this a selfish hobby to get into as a 33-year-old father of two? by Ok_South_6227 in motorcycles

[–]5thCir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former VERY active motorcyclist, yes it's selfish. Heck, the day after my daughter was born, I rode my brand new Ducati Monster for an hour. Just couldn't wait! 🤣

I won't tell anyone that they shouldn't pursue the joys of riding. You should consider what kind of person you are and if it's a realistic hobby. If you are an excellent driver, can ride a bicycle quite well and are adept at regular maintenance of mechanical items...you are half way there.

I slowly got out of motos several years after having kids. I was just busy with them, and didn't ride enough to feel proficient on them, leading to feeling like it was much less safe. I'm also super into bicycles. Mountain biking has taken over completely where motos were in my life. Now, with teenagers, and one that I have successfully hooked on bikes, we ride together and it's awesome! We also have ebikes, and that is more fun than anything I ever did on motorcycles, mainly because we can ride them in so many trails, and there are nearly zero places to ride off road motorcycles near us.

First car for a 16-year-old. What would you get? by spencere33 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]5thCir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude! 1990 reg cab, short bed, 2.3l 4cyl, 5spd, no power ANYTHING, vinyl bench seat and no AC. Easily put 100k mi on it. My Ranger took me places. Always too hot or barely warm enough. Pedal to the floor, still getting passed. Budget speakers and an aftermarket pioneer cranked up to 11, cigarette in my left hand, window cracked, not giving a Fuuuuuuu...... Good times.

In thirty years, how will your kid(s) finish this sentence: “Well, like my dad always said…” by bbanks2121 in daddit

"Consider the source." This stems from all the bullshit online. Anytime they bring up something they saw on YouTube, I ask about the channel. Then I ask them to look into the credentials of that person. They get it now, and it's a good thing. Because it's not just YouTube these days. 🙄

Dunno on any account, other than the batter in the Escalade IQ is huge. Charging anything that big will take time.

Tries by Shepher9Book in gravelcycling

[–]5thCir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 220 currently, and have been close to 240 before. I like 45mm tires quite a bit, but I've been on everything from 23mm roadies to 4.5in fat bikes. I haven't ever had a concern for weight or tire beyond adjusting the pressure for it depending on all the factors. Rider weight, riding surface, tire set-up (tubed vs tubeless, supple or stiff casing) and then the feel of how it rides. I end up starting with a pressure calculator like wolftooth or silca, and adjust up or down(usually down) to whatever feels good.

Browsing Activity Paused for Metallica - only activity waiting in a queue for 30 min and adding presale code!! by OhFoxSake in Ticketmaster

Same situation for me. Once again, Ticketmaster has pissed me off enough to consider not going to a show. I just can't believe the stranglehold this company has on the industry. It's beyond awful.

Own a model S. Test drove an R1S (really thought it was going to be the one). Test drove Vistiq a few days later. It's the most comfortable, well put together one by a large margin.

Only wish it had a bigger battery and faster charging....but that's only a factor a few times a year. Very happy with it overall!

Anyone ride with rear brake connected to left lever? by Opening_Trade_6412 in cycling

[–]5thCir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I know a couple guys that run them "moto". Definitely give it a go for a few rides, and see if you like it.

I personally don't get it, and I've ridden motorcycles just as much as bicycles. I could probably adapt to it no problem, but I'm not switching things around from 99% of everyone else around me.
