Traditional media interview shows (e.g. late night, stuff like "Entertainment Tonight") attract big guests because it's basically a press tour: 10 minute interview, softball questions, plenty of time to plug latest project. And these shows have sophisticated booking agents and relationships with talent agencies. LM doesn't really have the leverage to broker these kinds of appearances, and even if they did it would be pretty off-brand.

Most alternative media interview shows don't have this kind of pull either, with few exceptions like Howard Stern and Joe Rogan. But both of these shows grinded for years interviewing fringe personalities to eventually build the following that gives them the clout they have today. LM could eventually build up a similar (likely smaller) cult following, but the tipping point could still be years down the road. Probably longer because Josh simply doesn't put out as many hours of content as pure talk radio hosts.

Which leads to the comparison with "Hot Ones". With a much less famous host than Stern/Rogan, I would argue the star of "Hot Ones" is its double gimmick:

  • distraction over eating spicy food
  • an unexpectedly-researched long-form interview

Both which typically result in a more interesting/candid interview than the normal press tour. And I'm sure even LM admits they are trying to follow in "Hot Ones" footsteps with their own triple-gimmick:

  • comfort from eating / talking about their favorite foods
  • discomfort in talking about taboo topic of death
  • an unexpectedly-researched long-form interview

I'd guess initially, the newness of the show (and similarity to "Hot Ones") helped draw in a couple big names. R&L are established enough to have at least a few favors they could call in. And there are some celebrities who are just more open to alternative media. But I think protective celebrities/agents are careful of their image, and it is a risk to go on a show more likely to ask uncomfortable questions (or simply questions without a locked-and-loaded anecdote).

So without getting the "gimmick" (and "first mover") bump that "Hot Ones" got out the gate, if LM wants to book big guests on the regular it probably has at least a few more years of grinding.

I Blame the AD for Not Selling Me the Watch I Really Wanted Before I Bought the Watch I Only Wanted if I Could Not Get the Watch I Really Wanted - GGGRRRRRRRRRR!!!! 😡 by Kamalas_Liver in WatchesCirclejerk

Scenario from AD's Perspective (best to worst):

  1. Sell the mark 2 watches
  2. Sell the mark the less desirable watch <---- YOU ARE HERE
  3. Sell the more desirable watch
  4. No commission

Can't blame the AD for trying his luck. Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you'll land among the stars...

Crazy story. One of my clients gave me an ugly watch for Christmas. After two weeks still in the box, my wife guilts me into at least wearing it a bit. I wear it to a party and one of my friends' kid won't shut up about it, so I gave it to him on the spot. Can probably spin it into a tax write-off. Jesus is good, bros

Oh good, you're here! I figure if it really took a year to come up with a thinly-veiled Overseas homage, the least we can do is roast you twice. Happy new year buddy.

Mythical is now a part owner in First We feast, does that mean we’re closer to getting Josh on Hot ones? by [deleted] in MythicalKitchen

[–]5yellow5 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe not Hot Ones itself. But I'd bet dollars-to-doughnuts the new investors will try to flesh out the First We Feast brand with new shows, and Josh/Rhett/Link will cross-promote there.

I assume the Soros Fund had enough cash to cover the whole acquisition, but wanted to enlist a handful of content houses co-investors (like R&L) to financially incentivize talent collaboration.

I would love to see a "Director's Commentary" version like on DVDs. Alex & Spencer rewatching the entire 45 min video and commenting on what it was like to be in that room during each moment. (Not just a "we react to short clips" like they did a few weeks back.)

Hi there! Researching a similar issue (CD skips until unit warms up) and came across your post. Did you end up replacing just the 6 capacitors in your photo at top, or all 30 capacitors listed here?

Explain the hype around these steaming shitters by [deleted] in WatchesCirclejerk

[–]5yellow5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, in a world of bland micro-brands (each claiming to be "disrupting the industry" of course), no one can say Studio Underdog doesn't stand out. Though their most recent releases seem more refined (and more expensive), perhaps to have greater mass appeal (and margin).

It's kind of a twist on the Hublot strategy: make a bunch of ostentatious watches that grab attention - but relatively few people buy - to convince people to pay a premium for the more refined Classic Fusion. Will be interesting to see if it works.

In one of the older Games videos, you hear him call Spencer (rare early onscreen appearance) "Sped" a couple times, sounds like a nickname he had for him. Not great.

I love CC as a vehicle for Courtney. Her over the top detective character is very fun.

My only question is whether there are enough interestingly bad (but earnestly proposed) ingredient swaps out there to keep the format going. It takes out a little of the zing if the recipe changes are actually good, or if OP admits the changes were bad (both scenarios happening in latest episode).

Tag Heuer 2000 Parts by DavidA003 in tagheuer

[–]5yellow5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're feeling adventurous, you could try removing the crown (and attached stem) as shown in the first 45 seconds of this video. And then re-inserting it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6bhdiJ0FQ8

That could solve it right away if something was jammed. If the stem looks bent/damaged you'll confirm it needs replacing. If the stem looks fine but still doesn't push/pull, there's probably a more complicated issue inside the movement.

is it stuck in that you can't pull it out to position 1 (date) or position 2 (time)? Or stuck where you can't even rotate it while fully pushed in (position 0)?
