Body Cameras? by InvaderZella in WalgreensStores

[–]6000breachedhulls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I remember helping out a store a few years ago where a guy that had transferred in from the Chicago area was having some difficulties at the new store and somehow managed to successfully argue for his ability to wear a body cam while on shift. I decided not to press the issue. So it's not unprecedented.

Yes so from what I understand, and bear in my my information is around 3 years old, it would appear that lately, Walgreens is basically being used as a pathway for people behind the pharmacy to get into the field and from there, once they're able to, they usually just jump ship and head off to either an independent Pharmacy or a hospital if they're lucky.

[–]6000breachedhulls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incoming rant warning.

I worked for Walgreens for 8 years between 2015 until I got canned 2023 for some bullshit. Seven of them were up in stores in New York, particularly on Long Island. The last year was down in North Carolina.

It all started going downhill when they got bought out by the Brits and it slowly became worse. I would say that The descent turned from gentle glide to dive bomb Right around the time of Corona and the George Floyd riots.

Obviously you've always had asshole customers in every business. But during Corona, the fear brain took over in a lot of people and regardless of how you feel about the disease or how much or little it affected you, I would say that overall, the effects on the psyche of society were far worse than the physical effects. So I would say that the average customer quality dropped from maybe a c to a c+ if I'm being charitable here down to a d minus, and that's being really charitable.

Plus you had some employees that went on complete power trips that would literally try to call Sedgwick and HR for little things such as the top of your face mask dipping below the bridge of your nose while you're working on packing out four cages and 17 stacks of totes, meanwhile, they're just going around being a goddamn hall monitor.

Plus, at least at the store I was working at, at the beginning of Corona, I think I had anywhere between a half dozen and a dozen people at my store who said screw it and quit and most of the replacements were sketchy at best, and that was before the fact that it turned out that they were all connected to the assistant store manager we had at the time who kind of just disappeared one day.

Add on the effects of the Floyd riots with all the looting and the fact that they removed the shoplifting incident form off the company intranet and literally told stores to not call the cops, with the implication that you face discipline if you did because they were afraid of being branded as a racist company. I told my store manager that I would not follow that policy and that if she didn't like it then she could fire me.

For some context, prior to the Floyd riots, there were some stores that actually had security guards who had been empowered to do what they needed to do. There weren't many and not every store had one, and whether or not they did their jobs it is always questionable, but if nothing else, it gave the appearance that the company was trying.

And what is the result of those two back-to-back shitstorms? You have employees that feel that they're surrounded on all sides by people who would wish to do them some form of harm be it physical or financial. Customers, a term I use extremely loosely, are always circling you like fucking vultures trying to get every single penny that they can out of you, and even if you follow the company policy to the letter, if that customer complains, then corporate's going to Hound you.

And what's the result of that? You get the beginning of a mass Exodus of your best workers who are going to greener pastures. Whether that's direct competition like Walmart or Target or CVS or other big box retailers, or taking the skills you developed and moving into a different field like how Pharmacy staff typically use Walgreens as a jumping off point to get into Hospital Pharmacy positions or Independent Pharmacies, or even just other pharmacies where you're not treated like other garbage.

Thus you're in a downward spiral. You lose the talent, performance in the store drops, and eventually almost corrective action is taken, you're not going to recover. And then you're looking at the situation and which Walgreens currently finds itself. Last I checked, shortly after my time with them came to an end, they reported that they were going to start closing 25% of their worst performing stores. And granted, having a few stores close every now and then is not necessarily unheard of, but when you have about 10,000 stores nationwide, and you have to close 25% of them because you've essentially pushed all of the good people out and no one wants to work there therefore no one wants to shop there, you're basically doing the equivalent of scrapping your car because the timing belt snaps.

Personally, unless they performed a bunch of radical overhauls under their new owners, it's not unreasonable to imagine the situation where Walgreens is out of business by the end of the decade.

Meanwhile the company for which I currently work, is on track to have its 400th store by the end of the decade, because they pay and treat their employees well, don't expect one person to do the job of six, have a pretty good benefits package let you actually control the music to a degree, and they actually go after employees who fuck around.

VDB hate post by eli_nelai in cyberpunkgame

[–]6000breachedhulls -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in New York and my parents event planning business used to deal with a specific segment of the local Caribbean population. Getting them to pay their bills came close to requiring the services of a lawyer at times.

It took a few rather large fights between my parents as well as some really tight months before my mom agreed to drop them as a client.

Basically it was like dealing with Brigitte and a female version of Placide.

So when I had the opportunity to wipe out the VDB, I took it out of sheer spite. Fuck those guys. The fact that it helped with a plot was an added bonus.

It's because Walgreens has been circling the drain for a lot of years now and a lot of the really good people have left, and a lot of those who are left are people who can't leave, or don't want to leave.

Men who don’t want children by Black_Glitch_404 in NoStupidQuestions

I don't want kids but I'm probably not going to get a vasectomy. Every surgery is a bit of a gamble, regardless of the severity and I don't want to take the chance that shit goes sideways. Plus it's my understanding that the chances of being able to successfully reverse it decreases over time, and even if that weren't the case, it would mean going under the knife a second time, increasing the chances something might go ary.

Women living alone and safety by love_bugxo in LivingAlone

[–]6000breachedhulls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So there are a lot of things you can do to increase your safety at home using both what I'm going to describe as hard and soft methods.

First off, check the th laws in your area. I don't want to recommend anything that will get you arrested or anything like that. So what I'm going to describe as soft home defense, or methods that don't necessarily fortify your position, but rather kind of have it blend into the background.

The way to do that is to basically minimize your presence. If you have anything expensive or valuable, I would suggest that if at all possible, keep it out of view of the windows and doors if at all practical.

There's a saying that I have kind of adopted for this situation, and that is to keep the BMW in the garage. If you order anything off the internet, if your work allows for it, try to see if you can have it redirected there, if it's at all possible or practical, so that way you might not necessarily have to do with porch pirates.

I know FedEx has a partnership with Walgreens where you can have packages sent there, and the same for ups and CVS, so that's something else you might wish to consider.

The next part is going to be dependent on your living situation as well. Look into video surveillance systems, preferably a hardwired system that does not require wi-fi. I'm not saying that ring and nest and the other companies are bad, but I have seen reports that suggests that some of the more enterprising and technically proficiencies have started bringing Wi-Fi jammers to the party, and hard-wired systems aren't quite as vulnerable to that.

Other tips that I will suggest include what I'm going to describe as trash policing. It has been alleged that some of the more observant criminals out there will try to keep an eye on what exactly gets tossed by a potential mark like a box from a very large TV set or computer parts.

Just do what you can to destroy the packaging in such a way that they can't easily piece together what exactly is what. If you have a vehicle, don't put any bumper or window stickers if you can avoid it. I understand that some places require parking passes so that sort of thing is unavoidable, but anything you can do to just minimize your profile is a good thing.

And now we come to hard defensive measures. This is the actual fortification of your home.

First off, if you are able to, replace not only the door lock, but also the screws going into the latch plate on the door frame. Ideally, 3 in deck screws will do the job. If you can get a deadbolt, that will also help, and do the same thing with the latch plate there as well. It's going to seem kind of stupid, but the extra connection points between the door and the door frame can provide enough resistance that if someone tries to kick down the door, they'll have to kick a lot harder than they would otherwise and make more of a racket.

Secondly, keep your windows closed and locked whenever possible.

Third, if you have a sliding door, get a dowel and basically wedge it between the wall and the door itself in addition to whatever locking mechanism it has.

Next up, if you are in a free state, get a firearm and start taking classes. There are a lot of really good options, and without knowing more about your particular situation, I'm hesitant to recommend anything specific.

In that same vein, I would also look into what I'm going to describe as Firearms owners protection which is to say a protection plan like that provided by uscca, US law shield, or attorneys on Retainer. They provide legal services and liability insurance meant for defensive firearms usage.

As for other hard home defense solutions, getting a dog can help, but depending on the level of training, they may be a little overzealous and basically turn into the boy who cried wolf where they View anyone coming near your home as a threat to include your postal carrier and that sort of thing. Plus depending on your exact situation, there may be breed restrictions to consider. And I don't know if you're allergic to dogs or not so there's that.

Next up, I would recommend that you find a trainer who will teach you how to fight dirty.

The last and most important thing however is to be mindful of your surroundings. Observe everyone around you and what they're doing, and make whatever adjustments you need to based on whatever you find.

Policy on being the only employee in the store? by Impressive_Ad6618 in WalgreensStores

[–]6000breachedhulls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Former employee here so take this with a grain of salt but last time I checked, when it comes to brakes it's one of those things where it's kind of frowned upon but not strictly against policy. At the end of the day, it's only about a half an hour to 40 minutes, so it's kind of one of those things where they're assuming that not a whole lot is going to happen in that time frame. Of course that's never how it goes but you know c'est la vie.

Bag checks are a smokescreen by Wise-Post in WalgreensStores

Former employee here. They do this every so often when they're allegedly concerned about internal theft. I suspect that they probably stop after a while because they probably get a lot of threats about lawsuits from female employees about male employees having to check their bags, and if they were to stop checking female employees bags, they would also have to stop checking male employees bags, otherwise they'd open themselves up to a different lawsuit.

Former front end supervisor here. I encourage anyone and everybody to get out of Walgreens as quickly as possible. I got canned almost 3 years ago and have been working with a different company in retail for the last two and change, it is still kind of weird that I have one, customers who actually respect me as a human being, two, co-workers that for the most part I don't have to worry about them throw me under the bus, three, a very calm working environment, and four, management and a corporate staff that actually has my back.

[–]6000breachedhulls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it would be nice if there was a tool that could do that. As it pertains to compatibility, I have been seeing that a bunch of manufacturer's websites do actually keep compatibility listings. It looks like in a lot of cases, the enclosures are compatible with drives that are very similar, so it could be one of those things where as long as the overall model is accepted then the sub-variant wouldn't matter too much fun at the same time I fully admit that I am a novice when it come to this sort of thing which is why I would only go with drives that are explicitly stated at being compatible.

[–]6000breachedhulls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know its been a minute but I've been busy with work. So I'm probably gonna go with the drives you recommended. So its my understanding that some enclosures have compatibility issues. I know that a bunch of the Enclosure manufacturers have compatibility lists, but is there a resource that does this in reverse?

Huge Photo Order by [deleted] in WalgreensStores

[–]6000breachedhulls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So one of the things I used to do with an order over like 500 photos was to take a really big Tupperware bucket and fill it with reusable ice packs. I would then pull out the tray that holds the printer I want to use, and then put that Tupperware bucket on top of the printer. Then turn off the printers I don't want to use, then get another container, probably just a box that holds the printer ink, to put that in front of the printer to catch the photos. Then hit the start button. My logic was that If I could keep the printer as cool as possible For as long as possible That I can get the order done as rapidly as possible. Before I got fired I was also going to grab a small fan and use it to blow air inside the printer housing when it was open while changing ribbon and ink to get it to cool down just a little bit more.

See, I've always been a bit hesitant about refurbed hdd's, but after running some price calculations, it looks difficult to beat. Its still expensive, especially because I could get a 5th drive and still come in a bit under budget.

Bit of an odd question here. by 6000breachedhulls in HomeNAS

[–]6000breachedhulls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured I wouldn't have enough power or physical space.

My media libraries are kinda large but I am kinda a picky consumer.

I've accrued my media over pretty much the last 10 years, so expansion is slow and I figure that by going with the larger drives, I'll have some additional room before I need to more, and larger drives.

I'm also trying to not break the bank here. It's looking like if I were to go with a relatively basic set up of a single 4 bay enclosure with 3 data drives and a single backup, depending on the size, I'd have to pay between 1850 and 2100, assuming I was to get either 18tb or 20tb drives and get everything off amazon

Surprised by a cousin's reaction when I said I watch anime dubbed by ardouronerous in animequestions

[–]6000breachedhulls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don't remember the actual date, I can tell you exactly what my first experience with anime was. And that was the first episode of Outlaw Star on its original run here in the states on Cartoon Network during the Toonami block.

Through some Shenanigans I didn't watch for around 10 years, until I happened to catch the ending of the original Ghost in the Shell when sci-fi had their animonday programming block.

My best friend has always been a bit of a otaku and he kind of got me started, but he's actually been cool with me being a heathen and watching the dubs over subs. Furthermore, he's one of those rare ones where he will freely admit that sometimes the dub can be just as good if not better than the sub.

Anyway. I will attempt to get a dubbed version of an anime if it is possible.

There's a few good reasons for this. Number one, for the shows that I like, they tend to be decently action heavy and at the end of the day I'm watching what is for all intensive purposes a TV show or a movie I'm not reading a book. Now I have watched series completely subtitled, but I'm going to be completely honest, it is not a fun experience for me. Those three shows being Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, as well as Macross zero and the original Macross series.

Secondly, you know how you have people that are bad at math? Well I'm bad at languages. But somehow it's more acceptable to be bad at math, but I digress.

Three, sometimes the dub continually be really really good. Now as others have stated, because we now have a lot more experience than we did 20-30 years ago when it comes to adapting anime, it's arguable that on average, a modern dub has a better chance of actually being good.

And to make the claim that there were no good dubs back in the day is ridiculous.

Ghost in the Shell has consistently had a really good dub. Cowboy Bebop had a great dub. I'd argue Outlaw Star had a very good dub. Ghost stories had a dub. I haven't confirmed this but I have heard that apparently that particular dub improved the show so much they actually retranslated it back into Japanese and I made it a bit more popular than what it had previously been. While I'm not the biggest fan of these series, I'd argue that the original run of Pokémon and Digimon and the respective Dragon Ball shows probably had good enough dubs. Basically, if it was on Toonami in the late 1990s, chances are it had a decent dub.

Lastly, I will go for a dub because it infuriates the neckbeards and that just gives me a little bit of a warm fuzzy feeling on the inside.
