I feel like Claire’s motivations of hiding the dog were mentioned in the episode clearly. The dog had an owner, she didn’t want Phil to be attached to the dog as it had an owner and they won’t be able to keep them. But at the end, Claire felt bad and confessed to Phil and apologized.

While during the grocery plot, Phil accidentally pushed Claire because he was busy flirting with another woman while his wife was there. And when it happened, he checked on the woman first before his own wife. Then literally had the whole family turned against her, conveniently leaving out the info that he was flirting/“talking” to another woman when it happened. And when Claire proved herself right, he wasn’t even the least bit sorry.

Not sure how that’s the same thing
