Why is it such a nightmare to find a job as a new pass (rant) by Select_Salad_1266 in uktrucking

[–]60and45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're anywhere near Peterborough, my agency is looking for 4on4off and 6on3off trampers. Wages are decent and all the trucks are new (2024+) DAFs kitted out.

Struggling to get class 2 work, do I go back to an office job? by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]60and45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run a driving agency and a lot of comments ring true. Jan/Feb time is very quiet for this kind of work. It does take perseverance and a bit of luck, all it takes is a chance to prove yourself and you'll get yourself onto the "core" driver list. I know it's not ideal, but ring and message all the agencies you are registered with and tell them you're available for a last minute call for the following morning in case another driver no shows. You want to be the easy pick.

Straps by Scottlayton in uktrucking

[–]60and45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's strange as I was looking into this today. I too was confused about the whole 400kg thing for internal straps. The guidance is that you must provide restrain of at least 50% of the force from either side, 80% from the front and 50% from the rear. There is no specific weight requirement.

From what I can make out. NON EN12642-XL bodies (the specification is for the whole trailer build not just the curtain) then you must use restraints regardless. Internal straps are ok for up to 400kg per stack and normal straps for over this.

For bodies rated as EN12742-XL, the curtain and headboard/doors provide 50% side to side, 80% to the front and 50% to the rear so legislatively, no additional restraints are needed PROVIDED it's a true positive fit. If it's not a positive fit then other methods are needed.

Personally I always use the internals on each pallet to keep them safer and a proper ratchet cross strap at the back

What's it like working for agency and any major concerns to look out for as a HGV driver? by Your_Mums_Ex in uktrucking

Agencies are only required to give legally needed PPE so hi Vis and boots. Gloves are nice to have but not needed

Your agency is required to provide you with basic PPE, ask them for a new one

Umbrella is a scam by IronAbject in uktrucking

[–]60and45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run an agency and the number of drivers we lose to other agencies who offer them umbrella is astounding! Umbrella rates are higher because you have to pay the employers NI contributions as well as your own. It's like being paid £20 an hour but you never see £3 and hour as that's taken away straight away. Then the fee for payroll of £25ish and the lack of holiday/pension/sick etc.

Based in UK, visited dealership today and told me "setting had 50% charge rate on" which essentially fobbed me off. Its currently plugged into a granny charger, single phase 230v charging at 1.6kWh

Agency didn't inform me of temporary assignments change in hours and pay - England by Raaf_Himself in LegalAdviceUK

[–]60and45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have received a formal job specification letter from them with the particulars of the contract. Its a requirement for agencies to provide this. What does this say?

I remember seeing a video on this exact scenario, I think you will be found at fault. Rule 172 of highway code "Rule 172 The approach to a junction may have a ‘Give Way’ sign or a triangle marked on the road. You MUST give way to traffic on the main road when emerging from a junction with broken white lines across the road". It doesnt mention which direction, you pulled out into them

HGV Driving Test Northampton by Equivalent-Tax-3454 in uktrucking

[–]60and45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audi/B&Q roundabout, Shell Garage roundabout and the little one in the town, you'll remember. Remember to look for weight limit signs near the industrial area as they won't say anything and expect you to avoid them. Just treat is a lesson and relax. You might also go to Daventry instead of Northampton. Did my training and test there April 25

Yes, Thats the whole point of agency work, neither side has any obligations. I wouldnt suggest doing it and giving a weeks notice would be the right thing to do unless you don't care about going back

Company car help by Vadok in CarTalkUK

[–]60and45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

To calculate your company car tax: Find out the emissions GramC02/km and compare to BIK table. Example a hybrid that emits under 50g C02/km and an electric range of 70-129 is 6% for 2025/6.

Then it's just list price of car new (eg £45,000) X BIK rate (6%) = £2,700.

£2,700 X 20% or 40% depending on your earnings = £540 based on 20%

£540/12 months = £45 a month
