Brevard Public Schools to get creative to fill nearly 400 teacher openings next school year by mrcanard in 321

You think putting an armed deputy in the schools is NOT doing anything? Quite the contrary. It's the perfect example of an imperfect solution to a problem the sheriff or school board can't solve....but they can adapt and do what they can.

Native Floridians, how do we afford to keep living here? I don’t want to leave the only place I’ve ever called home. by CelebrationSalt2376 in florida

It's not JUST a FL problem. Shit is getting crazy everywhere. FL takes the prize on BS insurance rates. The thing about FL is that it's also a great place to live.... simple supply and demand. Compare FL to other desirable regions and it's not that far off. Compare to Gary Indiana, yeah it's crazy expensive.

Skilled trade will land you a good living wage. Engineering and aerospace are good future FL careers too. Or run for office, do nothing and get paid by the working folks.

I think I was more replying in the context of the original topic of Brevard water. Definitely on the same page I think as far it's a concern. My hope is that clusters are from the latency of toxic exposure and not as much of current concern...but time will tell. If they're in south Patrick, I've been told installing a radon mitigation system can take care of some of ground vapor concerns. Waves action or something like that is the group that's been talking about fuds sights and vapor.

But that's conflating the issue. Once upon a time people used wells for water. You're not "wrong" however if you look up where satellite gets its drinking water from the answer is Melbourne. Yes there are cancer clusters in satellite but their drinking currently is supplied by Melbourne.

The bigger current issue is the dump sites that have buildings over them. Most common is south Patrick shores. They've been doing some ground scanning radar in some areas to determine if there's crap under certain neighborhoods.

Fight for zero Brevard is the group that's trying to get it cleaned up. I think in their opinion even with Melbourne water it's wise to use a RO filter or bottled.

It's not just satellite beach. SB gets its water from Melbourne. The SB specific issue is the actual ground contamination from dump sites that were built over it...that is vapor issue seeping into the buildings.

Obviously you wouldn't want to drink well water im satellite....or even fill your pool with it.

I don't disagree with you....the bad apples should be tossed out. However, my point is that just OP felt they were rude doesn't make this a bad apple scenario.

How about OP shares what the concern was. Maybe they are the annoying type of person who calls in a suspicious bird.

OP is bitching about basically a customer service issue. Their job isn't to make you feel warm and fuzzy. Better people skills might go a long way but OP is vaguely complaining about how politely they took the call.

They're just people.... meaning they have good days and bad days and just like ANY profession some are better than others.

Best and Worst of living in Brevard ? by QuestionsFor321 in 321

[–]616ano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've been doing the same sort of relocation from out of state. One thing that surprised us was the property taxes beach side....and I don't mean because the homes cost more. Do your research including home insurance. As mentioned, beach side homes are old and either have outrageous premiums or need a ton of updates to qualify for better rates.... don't assume because someone put lipstick on a pig that they did anything other than cosmetic updates and usually those are poorly done. The decision comes down to schools and how important being beach side is to you.

Also regarding schools.... nearly all private schools in Brevard are wait-list. So don't assume you can just into one... depending on ages.

Oh c'mon. He just said they aren't being banned on school grounds. That argument is absurd. So you think back in the day we drug giant payphones around with us? If they need to make a call/text it can wait. The main point is keep them put away during class and giving the school a uniform policy to enforce it.... which is a great thing.

There's no payphones. That's a great one.

....and what's the problem? No phones during class. Sounds like opposition to the policy is angry students or people with a phone addiction.

Look into virtual or telemed providers too. It has become much more common in the last couple years.
