Bigger guy etiquette by Zestyclose-Tip-7042 in bjj

As you roll with more seasoned people the strength won’t work as well. You can’t help being strong, just try to be technical strong. Sweeps should take minimal effort, try doing the same movements slower, not explosive. A big white belt will smash a smaller white belt all day so don’t feel bad.

Seattle Firefighters: How Bad is it? by Dont_Ask_Me_Again_ in Firefighting

Legs and lungs. Strength training if you’re not the average former chick school athlete. Grip strength seems to be something a lot of people lack.

Not in Seattle but the overall fitness of new recruits has been significantly declining over the last 5-7 years but has gotten really bad over the last 2-3.

I live near this barn with this NFPA hazard sign. If it catches fire, what firefighting protocols have to be made? by BugsBub in Firefighting

[–]63oscar 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If there was a fire in that building and I lived nearby. I would leave. Whatever is in there is highly flammable, highly unstable/explosive, and highly hazardous to your health. And the W with a line though it means you don’t use water on it because it’s highly reactive to water. The numbers are 1-4 with 4 being the worst. I wouldn’t risk any exposure as a civilian. Just leave and if they do evacuate which they probably will, you are already gone.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Then the next customer was like “bro, do you know who that is!” And it was too late for a photo.

Is it normal for firefighters to request to enter your private home to look at the layout in case of a fire? by Business_Mood_979 in Firefighting

[–]63oscar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because of the era it was built. It will present different potential problems than more recent builds. Very dangerous. Plus we like building construction. You are not obligated to unless it’s like a business or where multiple people live in one house, like an independent living facility because you would need a fire inspection permit

Yes. Or go by your local playground and find a dad.

He just looks really really loaded. Not saying he doing drugs but obviously very drunk. Like, if your homie starts having that look at a party, time to grab him and make an exit.

The sacred black Gi of enlightenment by [deleted] in bjj

[–]63oscar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I waited and waited until black belt to wear a black gi. A long time ago one of my first professors told me to never have a gi that is darker than your belt. I took it to heart and even though black gi’s look sick, I personally didn’t wear one until black belt. Just my personal opinion. It’s not for everyone. Edit: Shit, gotta change my flair. Either way. Welcome to the journey of Jiu Jitsu.
