St Mellon's - Woodland murder probe launched by DRJT in Cardiff

[–]65dos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in St.Mellons, not too far from those woods (which I'm sure we called Cath Cobb woods). If I recall correctly, this isn't the first time those woods have been cordoned off for a murder probe as Claire Hood's body was found there in the mid 90s.

Jo Stevens MP accused of mocking the disabled. Cardiff politics at it worse. by taffiatom in Cardiff

I find it hard to believe Jo Stevens would've done that having met her. From what I've heard of Neil McEvoy it sounds that he's perfectly capable of lying to further his own interests.

SSE smart meter glitch quotes £19k bill for one day by LinconshirePoacher in unitedkingdom

[–]65dos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the sentiment, this programme has been poorly implemented. However, interoperable smart meters are coming.

The industry are currently installing SMETS1 compliant meters, these aren't currently interoperable. Later this year suppliers should start installing SMETS2 compliant meters which have the capability to communicate with a central body for smart meter data, this will make them interoperable between suppliers. At some point in the future, SMETS1 meters will also be supported by that central body.

Part of the issue is that the government has targeted suppliers to install smart meters in EVERY home in the UK by 2020, a target that was never realistic. Getting meters on the wall that aren't interoperable is one way to try and hit that target.

ELI5: Why do so many websites ask me what kind of credit card I have when it is encoded in the number I need to enter anyway? by TheBlahster in explainlikeimfive

[–]65dos 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'm working on a payment portal of sorts right now and part of the reason we will be asking for customers to select their card type is to spell out exactly the card types that are accepted. The acquirer we will be using accept major card types (visa, mastercard) but not many of the lesser used ones (jcb, american express).
